Ric EliasImagine a big explosion as you climb through 3,000 ft. Imagine a plane full of smoke. Imagine an engine going clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, clack. It sounds scary.

Well I had a unique seat that day. I was sitting in 1D. I was the only one who can talk to the flight attendants. So I looked at them right away, and they said, "No problem. We probably hit some birds." The pilot had already turned the plane around, and we weren't that far. You could see Manhattan.

Good afternoon everyone,Today, I am here to share with you three important life lessons that I learned from a tragic plane crash. My name is Jane, and I am a survivor of Flight 427. On September 8th, 1994, I was travelling on a commercial flight from Chicago to Pittsburgh. I was only 24 years old at the time, and it was my first business trip. This flight was supposed to be a routine one, but it turned into a disaster. I still remember the moment when the plane took a sudden and sharp dive. Everyone was screaming, the luggage came loose and there was chaos everywhere. I thought it was the end of my life. However, by some miracle, I survived the crash and returned home with a new perspective on life.Looking back, I realized that this tragedy taught me three essential lessons that I want to share with you today:1. Life is unpredictableYou can plan your life to a certain extent, but sometimes things will go wrong despite your best efforts. The plane crash taught me that we should never take life for granted or assume that we have all the time in the world. We need to cherish each moment, live in the present, and make the mostof the time that we have.2. We need to appreciate the people in our livesWhen I was trapped in the wreckage of the plane, I realized that what mattered most to me wasn't my career, or my possessions, it was the people in my life. I thought of my family, my friends, and my colleagues. I remembered the moments I had spent with them and the memories we had created together. It was then that I realized how important they were to me, and how much I appreciated their presence in my life.3. Life is fragileWe all have a limited time on this earth, and we should never take it for granted. The plane crash made me realize that we are all vulnerable, and we should strive to make the most of our lives. Life is fragile, and we may never knowwhen it will end. Therefore, we must always try to live our lives to the fullest, follow our passions, and take chances. Conclusion:In conclusion, the plane crash was a devastating experience, but it taught me some of the most valuable life lessons that I have ever learned. I will always remember those lessons and strive to apply them every day. Life is unpredictable, and we never know what may happen in the future. However, if we appreciate the people in our lives, live in the present, and strive to make the most of our time, we can find joy and meaning in our lives, even in the face of adversity. Thank you for listening.。

Dear fellow TED enthusiasts, today I'd like to share with you a personal experience that has taught me important life lessons. Last year, I survived a plane crash that changed my perspective on life.As the aircraft started experiencing turbulence, I thought it was normal. But soon enough, the situation worsened, and I realized we were spiraling downwards. Panic set in, and I could see passengers screaming and crying around me. I closed my eyes, trying to prepare for the worst. Then, there was a deafening crash, and I lost consciousness. When I came to, I was lying outside the wreckage, shaken but alive. Looking back, I realized thatthis experience taught me three valuable lessons. The first lesson I learned was the importance of being present. Often, we get so caught up in our routine activities that we forget to appreciate the moment. Before the accident, I would rush through my day, always thinking about the next task on my to-do list. However, when your life flashes before your eyes, you realize how precious every moment is.It's essential to take a moment every day and be present, to reflect on all the things that are going well and things that we are grateful for. This helps us appreciate the simple things in life and helps us cope with stress and anxiety. The second lesson I learned was the power of resilience. The accident was a traumatic experience, and I wasn't sure how to move forward. But, as time passed, I realized that it was resilience that kept me going.Resilience is the ability to recover from adversity. It's a crucial skill that helps us bounce back from setbacks and challenges. Being resilient doesn't mean that we don't feel pain or hurt; it means that we are strong enough to pick ourselves up and keep going. The third and most important lesson I learned was to live life authentically. After the accident, I realized that life is too short to live it based on other people's expectations. We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with images of the perfect life, and we are often forced toconform to society's norms. However, we must have the courage to be true to ourselves and live an authentic life.To live an authentic life, we must be honest with ourselves about our goals, values, and priorities. It's okay to have fears and uncertainties, but we must not let them define us. It's essential to take ownership of our lives and make choices that align with our true selves. In conclusion, the plane crash was a life-changing experience that taught me valuable lessons that I will carry with me forever. It reminded me of the importance of being present, being resilient, and living an authentic life. I hope that my experience will inspire you to reflect on your own life and find meaning in the simple things. Thank you.。

Imagine a big explosion as you climb through 3,000 ft.
Two minutes later, 3 things happened at the same time. The pilot lines up the plane with the Hudson River. That's usually not the route. He turns off the engines. Now imagine being in a plane with no sound. And then he says 3 words-the most unemotional 3 words
I've ever heard. He says, "Brace for impact."
I didn't have to talk to the flight attendant anymore. I could see in her eyes, it was terror. Life was over.
Now I want to share with you 3 things I learned about myself that day.
I leant that it all changes in an instant. We have this bucket list, we have these things we want to do in life, and I thought about all the people I wanted to reach out to that I
didn't, all the fences I wanted to mend, all the experiences I wanted to have and I never did. As I thought about that later on, I came up with a saying, which is, "collect bad wines". Because if the wine is ready and the person is there, I'm opening it. I no longer want to postpone anything in life. And that urgency, that purpose, has really changed my life.
The second thing I learnt that day - and this is as we clear the George Washington bridge, which was by not a lot - I thought about, wow, I really feel one real regret, I've lived a good life. In my own humanity and mistaked, I've tired to get better at everything I tried. But in my humanity, I also allow my ego to get in. And I regretted the time I wasted on things that did not matter with people that matter. And I thought about my relationship with my wife, my friends, with people. And after, as I reflected on that, I decided to eliminate negative energy from my life. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better. I've not had a fight with my wife in 2 years. It feels great. I no longer try to be right; I choose to be happy.
The third thing I learned - and this's as you mental clock starts going, "15, 14, 13." You can see the water coming. I'm saying, "Please blow up." I don't want this thing to break in 20 pieces like you've seen in those documentaries. And as we're coming down, I had a sense of, wow, dying is not scary. It's almost like we've been preparing for it our whole lives .But it was very sad. I didn't want to go. I love my life. And that sadness really framed in one thought, which is, I only wish for one thing. I only wish I could see my kids grow up.
About a month later, I was at a perfmance by my daugter - first-grade, not much artistic talent... yet. And I 'm balling, I'm crying, like a little kid. And it made all the sense in the world to me. I realized at that point by connecting those two dots, that the only thing that
matters in my life is being a great dad. Above all, above all, the only goal I have in life is to be a good dad.
I was given the gift of a miracle, of not dying that day. I was given another gift, which was to be able to see into the future and come back and live differently.
I challenge you guys that are flying today, imagine the same thing happens on your plane - and please don't - but imagine, and how would you change? What would you get done that you're waiting to get done because you think you'll be here forever? How would you change your relationtships and the negative energy in them? And more than anything, are you being the best parent you can?
Thank you.。
