Dead Poets Society

When Neil got the news that there was an open tryout for the Midsummer Night Dream, he rushed joyfully to dormitory and was desperate to shear it with Todd, every words showing his dream of being an actor and his resolution to take this opportunity. “I’m g oanna be an actor. Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to try this” “For the first time, in my whole life, I know what I want to do and, for the first time, I’m goanna do it whether my father wants me to or not.” Neil was immersed in a great sense of excitement and enjoyment, completely regardless of his father’s order, expectation and dignity. “Carp Diem”---seize the day, He was taking action and attempting to make it works. What Mr. Keating had done and said emitted effects upon Neil, which gave him encouragement and impelled him to pursue his dream buried deeply in his heart since he was born. However, what Todd said dampened the enthusiasm---he must ge t his father’s permission, or nothing is possible. Then Neil was pushed into a dilemma: to pursue his dream or continue to obey father’ order? Thanks to Mr. Keating, it is impossible for him to surrender, so did his father. How can he do? Perhaps this difficult decision to some extents omens the tragedy. He didn’t know how to choose, and then he chose the easiest but the cruelest way to relieve himself.I appreciate Mr. Keating. Not everyone can encounter such respected teacher in his study career. He has his personal independence of conduct, full of passion and enthusiasm about teaching. When Neil asked him how can he stand live and work in this rough and small room, for he can go anywhere and do anything, he just said,” I love teaching” He devoted all his time and energy to teaching and students, but waiting for him is being expelled from school. To his relief, he got students’ understanding and supports, Todd Anderson being the first one standing on the desk to show his farewell statement to him. By looking at scenes from the movie, we all know that upon entering Welton Academy, he must live up to the reputation of his elder brother and he spent much of his time studying rather than socializing. He was shy and timid. He was daunted to read his original poem in front of class. But thanks to Mr. Keating, he helps Todd to improvise a poem following his heart, and he succeeded. Apart from Todd, Neil showed his talent for performance; Knox finally dared to pursue his favorite girls; Charlie was fully liberalized himself. He taught the boys so many lessons that they would have never learned from any other teachers. “Carpe Diem”was his first important lesson. He reminded students to seize the day and cherish every day dearly. He required students to call him “captain o’my captain”. He distinguished himself and his students as captain and sailors. He hoped he could guide his sailors to be independent and succeed in the life’s battle. He failed in the battle of tradition and reformation. He was beat by Welton’s four principles---tradition, discplin, but he succeeded in the acceptation and supports of students. He just likes a shaft of sunlight---weak but full of power---felling into the lifeless and spiritless community, warming human’s heart. He is actual the spiritual guider. He taught the boys so many lessons that they would have never learned from any other teacher. By looking at scenes from the movie, and lines from the works of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman, we can see just how important the lessons were that Keating was trying to teach the boys. Mr. Keating reminded them to seize each day and cherish them dearly. Todd Anderson, Neil Perry, and Mr. Keating are three of the most important characters in the film “Dead Poets Society.” T odd Anderson is the character that we see undergo the most change during the course of the movie. Upon entering Welton Academy, he already must live up to the reputation of his older brother, who was the valedictorian of his class. During Todd’s stay at Welton, he spent much of his time studying rather than socializing, and often passing up a good time because of his shyness. Along with the rest of his peers, Todd became a member of the Dead Poets Society, a secret organization that appreciated poetry. Through the Dead Poets Society, Todd became a more friendly and social person. Later in the year, an assignment was given by Mr. Keating for each student to compose their own poem. T odd spent much of his time trying to create a poem, but when the time came in class to read it, he backed down andNeil would let their talent show performance, Knox finally daring to pursue their favorite girls, Charlie was fully liberalized self, timid Todd also look through the Keating back to courage.。

研究生影视赏析课《死亡诗社》详细答案

死亡诗社1. What’s the running theme of the film?I think the running theme of the film maybe the liberation of nature, the pursuit of freedom.Teacher Keating instilled free to the students, Led them to break the traditional education, His students under his education began to struggle for their dreams, begin to seek out their own inner yearning. The film teaches us to listen to inner voice. When we see traditional conservative ideas of the school and all students without blood drive, we hope that anyone can change that. The teacher keating came. Meticulously to see students to take notes, we would like to see some different, so keating said it was a waste of materials, so tear up a few pages. Saw a child respond to the teacher on the table, we hope to have inspire other boys, they were also stood up, coruscate gives we want them to glow of free breath.I think that the presence of the dead poets society give children who don't understand the poetry opened a door of freedom, though it only open in the darkness of night. I have always believed that poetry is a scalpel, resect the tumor of the thought, refinement on the hearts of those who have been silent, too.2. Do you like Keating’s educational ideas and his special ways of teaching and why?I like k eating’s deucationl ideas and his ways of teaching.because Hiseducation can give students a positive impact. From him, we can see the shadow of the artist. They have never been famous, but hiding in the corner of the city, to do their own dreams. He teaches the students not only knowledge but also the truth of human. He let the children understand the freedom of the life, give them the courage to pursue their dreams. His teaching is not popular with the traditional education idea, but the liberation of the student's thought.Under mr.keating’s guidance ,the boys begin to swin against the stream and pursue their dreams.todd Anderson becomes brave and learns to lead his own path.charlie Daltuon is punihed for “the call from god”.charlie is reminded that he should choose a cautious and wise way to suck all the marrow out of life.the most unlucky one is neil perry .he is too concerned with his ideal to make necessary compromise with reality.he put himself into an impasse and he kills himself in order to make his body free. This romantic teacher education his students with passion and dream, his experience is a tragedy, he chose a different path, butI think he is successful teacher, he gives a soul to the students.3. Do you think we can imitate Keating’s wa y of teaching? What difficulties are we facing if we do?This education may be difficult to replicate, because it’s the product of a particular period. When the Appropriate people attend at the right time, this form of education will happen. we can not think beyond society . On the background of a traditional educational, many things can not been controlled by people. If we do like mr.keating,Our leaders may not agree with us, we will lose our jobs. Protests from parents, life pressure and so on, will become our difficulties. Teachers without proper teaching materials, not every teacher can write their own books. The students in reality can not be like in the movie. The current exam system is not suitable for the keating's teaching method. In a word, in the concrete implementation, will encounter many difficulties. We can't live out of education, movies and life is not the same. We can accept the idea of Mr Keating, his ideas on education combined with the actual situation, create the education method is appropriate for my situation. The teacher should be in the transmission of knowledge, encourage students to develop their unique spirit at the same time. Every student is different, we need to give students the opportunity to develop their own talents.4. Why is the tradition so powerful and how can we break it out? Because in theschool, people with traditional idea holds the rights, they stick to the traditional education concept, there is no new sounds. When there is a new teacher put forward different opinions, then they beat him, and destruction of the development of new things. The formation of traditional also experienced a long time, after a long time of accumulation, traditionalbecome truth, cannot be changed. People always like to get accustomed to things, when used things began to change, they may feel panic, especially powerful men, they are afraid of losing power, will be to maintain the traditional.Break the traditional is very difficult. I think the first thing should be determined the truth. Only use the truth to convince people, let people understand the correctness of the new things, can make people change the traditional way, accept new ideas. Next,we need have a firm confidence. The truth prove that takes time, we may have to undergo countless failures to succeed. Tradition is also under the accumulation of time, gradually formed. Finally, to adopt the method of science. It is difficult to let people accept new things at a draught, so it's very important to the choice of methods, can adopt the method of osmosis, gradually to get people to accept.5. What do you think of Neil’s death? Is it avoidable? This is an extreme way, death is to escape, is a cowardly act. Neil's death has no value, changes nothing of his death, his pursuit of freedom is actually lost. His behavior not only took their own lives, and hurt the people around him. His parents lost their son, a teacher lost the opportunity to continue to education students. We felt sorry for his death, but it's not worth , this is wrong, will only make things worse. In fact, he can take some positive practice, through the communication to obtain the blessing of their parents, he can prove himself to his parents for his efforts to choose the right, he canask the teacher for help, all in all, positive think solution is much better than suicide.I think commit suicide can be avoided. If Neil can change their own character. If he is a cheerful person, if he can to the life full of hope, then he will not choose to commit suicide, but take a positive approach. In addition, if the parents can understand him, Neil in daily life show more love for him, give him confidence, to give him encouragement, so things can be resolved.6. How do comment on Neil’s parents? Are they so familiar to us? How do you deal with such parents?Neil's parents don't know how to express their love. They use the incorrect way to education child, lets the child repressed, finally choose death. In fact, the parents feel good choice, children are not like too, respect the child's interest is the best choice. my parents seldom asked me to do things I really had no interest or gave up my interest though they sometimes made decisions I didn’t like in the past of my life .So when I saw Neil’s father ,a stubborn man ,never allow Neil to act in the play which Neil likes most, I got shocked.I think with such parents need to be patient communication. Neil's parents don't know my children, they did not listen to child's voice, always make a choice for him. If I were Neil, I would rational express their views, to seek the aid of all and to persuade parents with me, I want to show results prove that I choose the right. On the other hand, I also want to understandtheir parents, understand their painstaking, understand that they are in order to I have a better future. I'll find the balance between my parents' hope and my own hobby.7. What do you think of the major members of the Dead Poets Society, particularly Cameron, the fink? The members of the dead poets society is a group of students willing to accept new things. They are students dare to seek freedom, they have their own dreams, they want to challenge the old education system. Although they failed, but their action is positive, they changed their, brave to challenge the whole school. I admire the members of the courage, each and every one of them is a hero. When they read poetry, they are the truly happy, their life is valuable. Although the conditions don't allow them to sing, but, the truth will prevail, dead poets society would not die, lives in people's hearts forever.I think Cameron is a disappointing boy.He said the teacher encouraged neil should seek for his dream,mr.keating should be blamed.but it is not the truth. The teacher wanted the young to be happier and live a rich life. I feel sorry for them .They are full of passion for their life but they lead a poor life .They have no right to choose their future .They parents do that for them .Y ou grow to be a banker ,and you grow to be a doctor .They have a lot of money but they are feeling sorry for themselves .The young have done nothing wrong but they have to be a man what their parents ask them to be.They all should be sympathized.8. Make comments on the realistic situation of our education and point out the similarities and differences. Our education is a kind of exam-oriented education. Learning is in order to can get high marks in the exam, we cultivate not to use the knowledge ability, but the ability to cope with exams. That’s why Chinese student studies very well, but the ability to work is very poor. We never care about the students' interest is what, the future want to engaged in what industry, we only care about students' scores. Students have no clear goals in life, very few have their own play space, most of the time is to do exercises. Teachers and parents are concerned about the students' grades, don't allow students playing games, our study life is boring.Education is a major part of American culture. Schools do more than just fill students' heads with knowledge. They pass on culture, traditions and values.American children start their education in elementary school. Most youngsters enter first grade at around six years of age. Children can prepare for this step by attending preschool and kindergarten from ages three to five. Y oung learners finish elementary school in fifth or sixth grade. From there, students go on to junior high school until eighth or ninth grade. Americans complete their required education in high school. They graduate and receive a diploma after twelfth grade. The students can not only learn theory knowledge, and, more importantly, to master the practical skills.。

1. What’s the running theme of the film? The theme of died poets society reflect humans resistance of traditional education which lack of humanization and the pursuit of the freedom of thought , This film also tell us to” seize the day and cherish our lives” . From the love that student to Keating ,we can easily see that Keating bring students happiness ,at the same time our students really need the freedom of thought and the right of pursuitting happiness . Students in this film were asked to long for love, seize the moment and being-towards-death. Maybe the background of society or families restricts person’s development, but we must realize the value of our lifes and show our talents at a apparent time ,of course ,it does not mean the cost of our lives.2. Do you like Keating’s educational ideas and his special ways of teaching and why?If you ask me,do you like Keating. I will answer quickly without any hesitate yeah,of course ,I like both Keating. but his way of teaching is lake of reality .To tell the truth, Keating’s mind is not teacher’s mind but poet’s mind. So presumingly, I admit that Keating bring so much happiness and laughter to these student ,but he just brings children into his field without teaching students how to adapt themselves to terrible changes. When student like Neil finds out that there is dissimilarity between imagination and the reality, they become confused, they cant do a right choice, even suicide. To sum up, Keating is a good friend to adult, and a dangerous teacher to young people.3. Do you think we can imitate Keating’s way of teaching? What difficultiesare we facing if we do?We can pick out some points to apply. For example, Keating asked his students to tear the book because “The letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”(From the bible). And once, Keating let students jump on the teacher’s desk and see the world in a different view. What can we learn from that? Our Chinese students are not consistent with our own perspectives. Maybe we can encourage students to talk about dreams, frustrations, and ideas for change. We should love our books, but we can try to question well-known opinions, and argue with Ancient Oracles. Building up this capacity of creation is simply not an overnight process. in fact, there are several difficulties to learn this educational way. For example, if we teach in Keating’s way , the class will be no order ,and some student can work seriously, but others may not listing, even trouble.4. Why is the o powerful and how can we break it out?Tradition is powerful because it is accumulation of knowledge and experience for quite a long time. Tradition is thousands of years culture essence of precipitation .moat of us all admit it .At least it was correct in the past. Before we break it out we should recognize the differences in the past and present and find out what can be improved. Whenever we challenge tradition, we can’t reverse it completely. We should do something new at the base of these tradion ,only did these ,can everything be better.5. What do y ou think of Neil’s death? Is it avoidable?Neil’s bitter experience caused by the intense inner confusion and conflict, which is the war between freedom and secular power. The conflict is unavoidable but the death is avoidable. Mr. Keating give the philosophy of death to Neil prematurely so that Neil chose a extreme method to annotate the essence of life.6. How do com ment on Neil’s parents? Are they so familiar to us? How do you deal with such parents?Parents, without question, always love their children. Neil’s parents, especially the father loves Neil, too. He knows the importance of a decent job, and he knows the impulse of young will be over soonner or later. He did think that his boy’s spirit was too strong to control and he didn’t listen to his boy’s heart. I have known many parents just like the father. What we can do is to forgive and beer. Maybe you will say “how could you think about that? Did you really watch the film carefully?” I did. And I know we always forgive or beer our parents in the past several years. Sometimes their judgment is better than ours. At least they give us a easy way to servive.7. What do you think of the major members of the Dead Poets Society, particularly Cameron, the fink? From what I know , we cant easily judge if the members of t did a right or a wrong thing . I believe that every member of the Dead Poets Society have a deep thought before they make a decision to do what they just think right .There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes. In Cameron’s eye s, Mr. Keating is responsible for Neil’s death. We know Cameron didn’t want to join the dead poetssociety at the beginning time . maybe Cameron was right .In his eyes, Neil’s dream is a source of happiness pursued only by mad men. Finally ,he became the fink ,and some people dislike him . But if he did not do like that,Maybe there will be more and more people get hurt because of this matter.8. Make comments on the realistic situation of our education and point out the similarities and differences. There are some Similarities of education both in china and foreign country . for example , both these two classes serve a class as a unit, The teacher stands on the platform to have a talk , and the students sit down the chair to listen carefully. And both students in china and foreign country learn the same subjects , such as math , chemistry , biology , physical and so on . of course ,there are some differences of education between china and foreign country . For instance , foreign country encourage students to speak more in class discussion ,practice more by themselves and think independently . instead of ,in china ,most student in class keep silent and make notes about what teacher said. And if there is a noise in class ,the teacher would like be angry , because this noise can interrupt the teacher’s teaching.。
