International tourism does trigger tensions in a diverse array of fields. To begin with, the increase in the use of such traffic means as airplanes, trains, buses, and the like weakens the fragile balance (equilibrium) in an ecosystem. It also ruins the biodiversity in the ecosystem. Next, tensions in economic development are also conspicuous. The primitive economic pattern is inevitably vulnerable to the influences from the tourists who come from different economic systems. Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan, China is a typical case in point, where the local economic pattern has been shifting from the agriculture to tourism. Despite the tensions, international tourism contributes to the understanding between people from different cultures, religions, races, and political ideas. This is because the tourism per se is more than appreciating the beautiful, brilliant natural landscapes, cultural traditions, or interesting customs. It is a kind of contacts. To contact is to communicate. Communication naturally promotes understandings. For instance, the Americans who traveled to Tibet tend to understand why Chinese governments insist that Tibet be a part of the Chinese territory and it should never be separated from the Chinese sovereignty. In fact, religious understanding serves as another telling example. The Christians who visit an Islamic attraction are more easily to accept that different religious should be able to coexist. I first brainstormed and listed reasons why developing countries would be expanding their toursim industry, using my own ideas and research from articles from The Guardian, CNN and tourism websites. I also read journal articles about the affects of the tourism industry, and used these to list reasons why it is a positive development.

In an increasingly globalised society（全球化社会）, many developing countries are expanding their tourism industry. This essay will discuss why this expansion
（拓展）is occurring, and consider whether this is a positive development.
Demand for tourism has increased exponentially since the creation of the airplane and its subsequent monopoly （垄断）over international travel. Now, people can travel to foreign countries with ease and speed. Therefore, developing countries needed to develop a tourism industry to cater to the hordes of travellers visiting their country, and to take advantage of the economic opportunities they provided. Furthermore, many developing countries lack the natural resources（自然资源）, such as oil or fertile land（农田）, that would normally provide economic prosperity（繁荣经济）. Tourism provides these countries with the financial resources they need to survive. Moreover, people now tend to have more leisure time and more disposable income. As such, developing countries can expand their tourist industries to cater to all tastes, from travellers seeking relaxation to those seeking adventure.
Overall this is a positive development. Tourism provides economic stability to these countries, and importantly, creates jobs for local people. With the expansion of the tourism industry into niche markets（安逸的市场）, such as food tourism, adventure sports, historical tourism and the like, more and more jobs are created. It also provides tourists and locals alike with the opportunity to meet people from other cultures, to speak different languages, to exchange ideas and to learn from each other. Doing so gives us a better understanding of the world
around us, and a more empathetic, less ignorant outlook on life. In addition, the income generated from tourism can be used to create better housing and schooling for a country’s inhabitants.
For those developing countries who rely on tourism, expanding the industry creates financial gains, more jobs and a better, more stable lifestyle.
