animals在这里是泛指,可直直接用复数名词,所以不加冠词。

of a different kind是固定词组,泛指任一“不同一类的”。

故本题应选B。

因此本题选C。

4. I took the old man by _____ hand.A. theB. hisC. herD. a【答案】A【解析】句意:我拉着老人的手。

第六章书面表达1请以“Internet Friendship”为题,写一篇不少于120词的短文。

内容主要包括:网上交友的现状;网上交友的影响或后果;个人的看法。

【范文】Internet FriendshipAccording to the recent survey, 80% of people who surf online are in search of social interaction. As a consequence, the voice speaking through the other side of the line can be used to disguise aspects of a user’s personality. And this might bring an unpleasant or even damaging outcome.Numerous examples can be given, here is a typical one. One of my closest friends, Kate, started a net relationship with a man she knew as “Prince Charming”. However, it turns out that her beloved idol was a husband with wife.In my opinion, it is true that people may gain community on the net, but this exists only in cyberspace. Although Internet friendship can give users companionship and even romance, it ends with failure and even disaster most of the time. It is high time that we placed great emphasis on this phenomenon.【解析】文章开头一段用某项调查的数据来说明网上交友的现状,并指出网上交友的不可靠,可能导致不良后果。

第二章快速阅读Passage1Education Study Finds U.S.Falling BehindTeachers in the United States earn less relative to national income than their counterparts in many industrialized countries yet they spend far more hours in the front of the classroom according to a major new international study. The salary differentials are part of a pattern of relatively low public investment in education in the United States compared with other member nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development,a group in Paris that compiled the report.Total government spending on educational institutions in the United States slipped to4.8percent of gross domestic product in1998,falling under the international average—5percent—for the first time.“The whole economy has grown faster than the education system,”Andreas Schleicher, one of the reports’authors, explained.“The economy has done very well, but teachers have not fully benefit.”The report, due out today,is the sixth on education published since1991by the organization of30nations,founded in1960 and now covering much of Europe,North America,Japan,Korea,Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the teacher pay gap,the report shows the other countries have begun to catch up with the United States in higher education:college enrollment has grown by20percent since1995across the group, with one in four young people now earning degrees. For the first time, the United States’collegegraduation rate, now at33percent,is not the world’s highest.Finland, the Netherlands,New Zealand and Britain have surpassed it.The United States is also producing fewer mathematics and science graduates than mast of the other member states. And the report says a college degree produces a greater boost in income here while the lack of a high school diploma imposes a bigger income penalty.“The number of graduates is increasing, but that stimulates even more of a demand—there is no end in sight,”Mr.Schleicher said.“The demand for skill, clearly,is growing faster than the supply that is coming from schools and colleges.”The report lists the salary for a high school teacher in the United States with15 years, experience as$36,219,above the international average of$31,887but behind seven other countries and less than60percent of Switzerland’s$62,052. Because teachers in the Unites States have a heavier classroom load—teaching almost a third more hours than their counterparts abroad—their salary per hour of actual teaching is$35,less than the international average of$41(Denmark,Spain and Germany pay more than$50per teaching hour,Korea$77).In1994such a veteran teacher in the United States earned1.2times the average per capita income whereas in1999the salary was just under the national average.Only the Czech Republic,Hungary,Iceland and Norway pay their teachers less relative to national income;in Korea teachers earn 2.5times the national average.Teacher pay accounts for56percent of what the United States spends on education, well below the67percent average among the group of countries. The new data come as the United States faces a shortage of two million teachers over the next decade, with questions of training, professionalism and salaries being debated by politicians local and national. An international expert at the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education said training for teachers is comparable among most of the nations in the study, and that they are all dealing with similar issues of raising standards and increasing professionalism.Though the United States lags behind in scores on standardized tests in science and mathematics, students here get more instruction in those subjects, the report shows. The average14-year-old American spent295hours in math and science classes in1999,far more than the229international average;only Austria(370 hours),Mexico(367)and New Zealand(320)have more instruction in those subjects.Middle-schoolers here spend less time than their international counterparts studying foreign languages and technology but far more hours working on physical education and vocational skills.High school students in the United States are far more likely to have part-time jobs:64percent of Americans ages15to19worked while in school, compared with an international average of31percent(only Canada and the Netherlands,with69percent,and Denmark,with75percent were higher). One place the United States spends more money is on special services for the disabled and the poor.More than one in four children here are in programs based on income—only five other countries serve even1in10—and nearly6percent get additional resources based on physical or mental handicaps, twice or three timesthe rate in other countries. The report shows a continuing shift in which the United States is losing its status as the most highly educated among the nations. The United States has the highest level of high school graduates ages55to64,but falls to fifth, behind Norway,Japan,Korea, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, among ages25to34. Among college graduates it leads in the older generation but is third behind Canada and Japan in the younger cohort(一群).While the portion of Americans with high school diplomas remains at88percent across age groups, the average age among member countries is rising. It has gone from58percent of those ages 45to54,to66percent of those ages35to44and72percent of those ages25to34.A higher percentage of young people in Norway,Japan,Korea, the Czech Republic and Switzerland have degrees than in the United States.“The U.S.has led the development in college education and making education sort of accessible for everyone,”Mr.Schleicher said.“It’s now becoming the norm.”问题1—6从所给选项中选择最佳答案,7—10根据内容将句子补充完整。

your door was open, and would continue talking to you until you closed it.Of course,it never caughton.Times have changed and the talking car of the near future is a car that you talk to,rather than a car that talks to you. You'll be able to control your radio by giving voice orders, get traffic reports and directions, and send and receive e﹣mails. To do this, you needn't push a button at all. This is good news for those who spend more and more of their lives in their cars.In fact, the new type of cars will be more like offices on wheels, with computers, wireless Internet access, and satellite radio inside.Companies are hoping that time wasted in traffic could be put to better use.If workers are able to check their e﹣mails, faxes, and meeting time on the way to work, they can spend more time at the office doing more important tasks.Microsoft,of course,is hoping that every one of those mobile offices will use Windows."It's a great goal."says Dick Brass,VP of Microsoft's automotive division,"But we'd like to have one of our operating systems in every car on earth."There are already650million cars in the world, and every year about50 million new cars roll off the production lines. If Brass'wish came true, cars could become a bigger business for Microsoft than computers.(21)Which is TRUE about the world's first"talking car"?A.Nissan invented it.B.It was introduced in the late20th century.C.It could record voices.D.It could not only record but also talk itself.(22)The radio of the new talking car can be operated by receiving.A.traffic reports B.voice orders C.light signals D.electricity energy(23)Companies may be happy with new type of cars because.A.much time will be wasted in traffic B.their workers will get to the office earlierC.their workers will have more time to do more important workD.their workers will check e﹣mails, faxes, and meeting time at home(24)The underlined phrase"caught on"in the first paragraph probably means"".A.turned on B.took off C.become popular D.was colourful(25)We can learn from the passage that.A.all of the mobile offices will use Windows B.about50million new cars are produced every year C.the new type of talking car has a recorded voice insideD.the talking car of the near future is a car that talks to youBA few years ago,I realized that I had a fear of heights.Sometimes I would feel uncomfortable if I looked down from somewhere high and the higher I got,the worse I felt. However, there were some things that made me nervous when I looked up at them﹣such as drop towers(急速下降塔).About a month ago,my family and I went on a trip to Marineland﹣an amusement park with a sea animal theme. One of Marineland's attractions is a huge drop tower called the"Sky Screamer".My dad wanted to ride it,and he wanted to take me with him.He kept nagging(唠叨)me,and I finally gave in,because I wanted to face my fears.Going up was terrible.I got stomachaches from just looking at the tower. When we reached the tower,we lined up and got seated on the ride. When it reached a few feet off the ground,it stopped for a moment, before sending us straight to the top at great speed.I squeezed my eyes shut and I held the handlebar(把手)as tightly as I could.A few seconds later my heart was in my mouth and I was screaming my lungs out.At the top,I opened my eyes and looked forward, not down.I tried to prepare myself for the way down, but it didn't really help. There I was, with my eyes squeezed shut, holding the handlebar and again, screaming at the top of my voice. In fact,it was even worse than going up!But when I got to the bottom,I felt relieved(放松的).I thanked my dad for forcing me to go on the ride, and I was pleased I had faced my fears. So,was the"Sky Screamer"scary?Well, maybe just a little bit.(26)Which of the following wasn't the writer afraid of?A.Riding a lift to a higher place.B.Looking down from a height.C.Looking up at drop towers.D.Going to an amusement park.(27)What made the writer finally decide to ride the"Sky Screamer"?A.Her father's encouraging words.B.Her interest in the ride.C.Her desire to face her fears.D.Her father's nagging.(28)What did the writer do during the ride?A.She kept looking down.B.She kept holding the handlebar.C.She was too frightened to scream.D.She squeezed her father's hand tightly.(29)What can we learn from the passage?A.The writer volunteered to take the ride because she wanted to face her fears.B.The writer's father forced her to ride with him in order to help her with her fears.C.The ride was less scary on the way down.D.The ride offered the writer a chance to face and conquer(征服)her fears.(30)What is the passage mainly about?A.A trip to Marineland.B.Facing a fear.C.A ride to the top of the"Sky Screamer".D.A joyful ride on the"Sky Screamer".CAt5:13on the morning of April18th1906,the city of San Francisco was shaken by a terrible earthquake.A great part of the city was destroyed and a large number of buildings were burnt. The number of people who lost homes reached as many as250,000.About700people died in the earthquake and the fires.Another earthquake shook San Francisco on October17th,1989.It was America's second strongest earthquake and about100people were killed. It happened in the evening as people were travelling home.A wide and busy road which was built like a bridge over another road fell onto the one below. Many people were killed in their cars, but a few lucky ones were not hurt.Luckily the1989earthquake did not happen in the centre of town but about50kilometres away.In one part of the town a great many buildings were destroyed. These buildings were over50years old,so they were not strong enough. There were a lot of fires all over the city. The electricity was cut off for several days too.Why do earthquakes happen?Scientists explain that the outside of the earth is made of a number of different plates. At San Francisco the Pacific plate which is moving towards the northwest meets the North American plate. The Pacific plate is moving very slowly﹣at5.3centimetres a year.Sometimes these two plates stop and do not move for years. Then suddenly, they jump and an earthquake is felt.As a result of the movement of these plates, west America near the sea has always been a bad place for earthquakes. When the 1906earthquake happened, the Pacific plate jumped5﹣6metres to the north.Scientists are afraid that one day an even bigger earthquake will hit the area around San Francisco. They call it"The Big One".However, people today are still building more houses. The population in and around San Francisco is now ten times more than it was in1906.This means that if there is another big earthquake,a great many houses and buildings will be destroyed.(31)Fewer people were killed in the1989San Francisco earthquake because the earthquake happened.A.in the centre of the city B.in the daytimeC.outside the city D.in the evening(32)Which might be the worst earthquake in the history of the USA according to the passage?A.The1906earthquake.B.The1976earthquake.C.The1989earthquake.D.Both A and C.(33)Why do earthquake happen?A.Because the surface of the earth is too thin.B.Because some plates of the earth move suddenly.C.Because the houses built on the earth are not strong.D.Because the plates are moving slowly.(34)What should we do about the earthquake?A.We should learn how to predict earthquakes and stop them.B.We should stop building new houses.C.We should build strong buildings in the right places.D.We should try our best to stop earthquakes.(35)What does the underlined word"one"in the second paragraph refer to?A.Bridge.B.Road.C.Car.D.Street.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

“How can that be so?”
Firstly, the people practicing would miss some shots. Each time they missed
and after 100 times all the grass is worn away and there’s a farmer with a shotgun
waiting for you at the end. Let’s presume our gun-toting friend is a big softie and
be successful.
Forging a Path through a Meadow
Imagine walking home from a new job. You suddenly realize that there is a
meadow of long grass that will cut 20 minutes off your walk. If you live in New York
they had in effect, practiced how to miss. The people that were visualizing would be
hitting every basket so they were building up the feelings and memory of how to
you’re going to need a great imagination for this one.
The first few times you can barely see which way you had walked the previous
