Challenges and Difficulties in Job Hunting.Job hunting can be a daunting task fraught with challenges and difficulties. Here are some of the most common hurdles faced by job seekers:Competition: The job market is often highly competitive, with numerous qualified candidates vying for a limited number of positions. This makes it challenging to stand out and secure an interview, especially for entry-level or highly sought-after roles.Lack of Experience: Recent graduates or individuals with limited work experience may face difficulties convincing employers of their capabilities. The absence of a proven track record can hinder their chances of landing their desired job.Networking: Building a strong professional network is crucial for job hunting. However, for those who lack extensive connections, it can be difficult to gain access to hidden job opportunities or receive referrals.Online Application Systems: Many employers rely on online application systems, which can be tedious and time-consuming. These systems often require candidates to provide extensive personal and professional information, which can deter some individuals from applying.Technical Screening: For roles requiring specialized skills or technical knowledge, candidates may encounter technical screening tests or assessments. These tests can be challenging and can add an additional layer ofdifficulty to the job application process.Salary Expectations: Negotiating salary can be a delicate process, and job seekers may struggle to determine their worth or advocate for a fair wage. Mismatched salary expectations can lead to missed opportunities.Bias and Discrimination: Unfortunately, bias and discrimination can still occur in the job market. Certain groups, such as women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities, may face unfair treatment or limited opportunities.Mental Health Challenges: Job hunting can be a stressful and emotionally taxing experience. The constant rejections, uncertainty, and pressure to perform can take a toll on mental well-being.

Having trouble with your job search? Not sure why you aren’t getting more interviews? It could be because of your lacklustre CV. No matter how impressive your accomplishments are, your CV may not reflect them to your best advantage. Several LinkedIn Influencers weighed in on the topic this week. What could your CV be saying (or not saying) about you and yourcareer? Here’s what two of them had to say.Having trouble with your job search? Not sure why you aren’t getting more interviews? It could be because of your lacklustre CV. No matter how impressive your accomplishments are, your CV may not reflect them to your best advantage.Liz Ryan, chief executive officer and founder, Human WorkplaceDon’t underestimate the power of a CV to hurt your career when you least expect it, wrote Ryan in her post, Five Deadliest Resume Mistakes (And How to Fix Them). What might you be doing wrong?Among the things Ryan wrote that would-be job seekers should beware of in their CV.“The worst brand in the world is the brand ‘I can do anything!’ No one will believe you,” Ryan wrote. “Even if you can do everything, you've got to choose something that you especially love to do, otherwise you come across assomeone who doesn't know him or herself well enough or havethe confidence to plot your own course.”“Always start with a summary at the top, just under your contact section. Don't show hiring managers a list of pastjobs and expect them to determine what you intend to do next,” wrote Ryan. Be mindful about giving too many details. “Noone cares about your tasks and duties. That's just telling us wha t anybody in the job would have done,” wrote Ryan. “The more senior you are, the less detail you need to include.”It’s also crucial to not use boring language, Ryan wrote. “Using phrases like ‘Results-oriented professional with a bottom-line orientation’…was a wonderful way to write a resume in 1982 or even 1997, but not today.”Alex Malley, chief executive officer at CPA AustraliaIs it possible that people have “lost the art ofcreative (but honest) writing,” in their CVs and coverletters, queried Malley in his post Stop Sending Out Boring Resumes. From what he has seen, the answer is yes. How canyou differentiate yourself from the “chronological accountsof a professional existence”?“A resume… is a story of personality, performance, persistenc e and persuasion,” he wrote. “It requires the useof simple language, short sentences and evidence by brief example of outcomes achieved.”One way to make certain you achieve that, Malley wrote,is to avoid confining yourself to a resume template. “Moreand more, I see similarly structured resumes for more senior roles. Anyone with a substantive career behind them shouldnot accept the confines of a template” if they want to show how their success came from what they brought individually to a career.Ho w can you put that into practice? Pretend you’rewriting to a publisher to persuade them to commission yourlife story into a book,” wrote Malley “Learn how torepresent your whole life in as interesting form as you can. This has to be personal, compelling, illustrative and emotive.”To test your improved presentation, “Select five people… and ask each one to read your story. Observe their body language and reactions. This is likely the first timeyou are able to see the response someone has to your story,” Malley wrote. From that feedback, you can begin to craft an interesting — and stand-out CV and cover letter.

Regina HartleyYour company launches a search for an open position. The applications start rolling in, and the qualified candidates are identified. Now the choosing begins. Person A: Ivy League, 4.0, flawless resume, great recommendations. All the right stuff. Person B: state school, fair amount of job hopping, and odd jobs like cashier and singing waitress. But remember -- both are qualified. So I ask you: who are you going to pick?

My colleagues and I created very official terms to describetwo distinct categories of candidates. We call A "the Silver Spoon," the one who clearly had advantages and was destined for success. And we call B "the Scrapper," the one who had to fight against tremendous odds to get to the same point. You just heard a human resources director refer to people as Silver Spoons and Scrappers --我和我的同事发明了一些非常正式的术语,来描述这两个不同类别的候选人。

你们刚刚听到了一个人力资源总监将应聘者比作银汤匙和拳击手——which is not exactly politically correct and sounds a bit judgmental. But before my human resources certification gets revoked --let me explain.

A resume tells a story. And over the years, I've learned something about people whose experiences read like a patchwork quilt, that makes me stop and fully consider them before tossing their resumes away. A series of odd jobs may indicate inconsistency, lack of focus, unpredictability. Or it may signal a committed struggle against obstacles. At the veryleast, the Scrapper deserves an interview.

To be clear, I don't hold anything against the Silver Spoon; getting into and graduating from an elite university takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice. But if your whole life has been engineered toward success, how will you handle the tough times? One person I hired felt that because he attended an elite university, there were certain assignments that were beneath him, like temporarily doing manual labor to better understand an operation. Eventually, he quit. But on the flip side, what happens when your whole life is destined for failure and you actually succeed?

但是,另一方面,如果你的人生注定失败,而你却成功了,这是怎么回事呢?I want to urge you to interview the Scrapper. I know a lot about this because I am a Scrapper. Before I was born, my father was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and he couldn't hold a job in spite of his brilliance. Our lives were one part "Cuckoo's Nest," one part "Awakenings" and one part "A Beautiful Mind."

I'm the fourth of five children raised by a single mother in a rough neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. We never owned a home, a car, a washing machine, and for most of my childhood, we didn't even have a telephone. So I was highly motivated to understand the relationship between business success and Scrappers, because my life could easily have turned out very differently. As I met successful business people and read profiles of high-powered leaders, I noticed some commonality.

Many of them had experienced early hardships, anywhere from poverty, abandonment, death of a parent while young, to learning disabilities, alcoholism and violence. The conventional thinking has been that trauma leads to distress, and there's been a lot of focus on the resulting dysfunction. But during studies of dysfunction, data revealed an unexpected insight: that even the worst circumstances can result in growth and transformation. A remarkable and counterintuitive phenomenon has been discovered, which scientists call Post Traumatic Growth.
