While I was right about that, I discovered there are lots of other psychological factors that make people laugh other than the funny part of a joke. When someone laughs at a joke, there will usuallybe more than one reason that makes him laugh—and the more reasons there are, the more powerful the joke will be.I was attending a stand-up comedy show in Egypt, and when the man started to make fun of pedestrians crossing streets, everyone laughed their hearts out. The main reason those people strongly laughed was that almost all of them felt angry towards pedestrians who crossed streets carelessly. The joke wasn't only funny, it also made the audience feel that they were right about being angry at those pedestrians. That is, people were laughing both because of the funny joke and because of the happiness experienced as a result of the psychological support they got.The better a joke makes a person feel, and the more it includes other psychological factors, the more the person will like it. For example, if you envy one of your friends, and someone tells a joke that is funny and, at the same time, makes your friend seem stupid, then you will probably laugh at it louder than if you weren't jealous of him.In short, we don't laugh only when we hear something funny; we also laugh when we experience some kind of happiness that results from the other psychological factors involved in the joke. I strongly discourage making fun of anyone or belittling someone to make someone else laugh. All I want to explain is that if your joke supports a person's emotions, he will certainly like it a lot. (1)What did the author find out after studying psychology?()A. Only good jokes make people laughB. Many factors lead to people laughing.C. Funny things can make people laughD. Laughter can make people healthy.(2)Why did the audience laugh loud at the pedestrians? ()A. They played a trick on the pedestrians.B. The pedestrians behaved in a funny way.C. They could feel the pedestrians' happiness.D. Their emotion was approved of by the show. (3)What does the underlined word “belittling” probably mean? ()A. AnnoyB. BlameC. Look down onD. Make up to(二)The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Copenhagen is offering a free meal to any guest who is able to produce electricity for the hotel on an exercise bike linked to a generator (发电机). This unit was all about different activities people enjoy in their free time. There was a lot to learn, but I'll try my best to explain the key points. The first text was a letter from a Chinese student introducing himself and talking about his hobbies. He said he likes playing badminton, table tennis, and chess. Those seem like fun games! I enjoy badminton too - it's great exercise and you can play it outdoors. Table tennis is trickier but really tests your hand-eye coordination. As for chess, I find it very challenging to think ahead and plan my moves. We then read about a Canadian teenager named David who has an interesting hobby - raising homing pigeons! He started when he was 8 years old after his dad gave him some pigeons. Now at 14, he has around 200 pigeons! He trains them to race by taking them to different places and they have to find their wayback home. The pigeons can fly over 800 kilometers which is just incredible. I didn't know much about pigeon racing before, but it sounds like a unique hobby that takes a lot of patience and care for the birds. The next section introduced some new vocabulary related to hobbies and free time activities. We learned words like:Collection - A hobby where you gather and organize items of a particular typeHandicraft - Activities like knitting, sewing, or woodworking where you make things with your handsScale model - A miniature replica of something larger, like model cars, planes, or shipsThere were also different verbs related to hobbies, like assemble (putting things together), restore (repairing and renovating), and pursue (engaging in a hobby or interest over time). After building our vocabulary, we read a funny story called "A Sweet Tooth". It was about a young boy named Tim who loved collecting candy wrappers as a hobby. His mom wasn't too happy about it though! She thought it was an unhygienic and wasteful habit. But in the end, Tim's collection turned out to bereally valuable because some of the old wrappers were considered rare by collectors. I thought it was a clever story that shows how an unusual hobby can sometimes lead to unexpected rewards. The grammar focus for this unit was on modal verbs like must, should, may, might, can, and could. These help us express different meanings like obligation, permission, possibility, and ability. For example:You must brush your teeth twice a day. (Obligation)May I please use the bathroom? (Permission)It might rain later, so bring an umbrella. (Possibility)My sister can run very fast. (Ability)Using modals correctly is important for clear and polite communication.Towards the end, we read an interesting article that discussed different reasons why hobbies are beneficial. It mentioned how hobbies can relieve stress, keep your mind active, allow you to meet new people, and even make you more productive at work or school. The article gave me a greater appreciation for the value of having hobbies beyond just fun and entertainment. The unit wrapped up by having us research a hobby we're interested in and give an oral presentation about it to the class. I chose to present on origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. I find it really satisfying to take a flat sheet of paper and carefully fold it into a 3D sculpture! For my presentation, I demonstrated how to make a few simple origami models and talked about the history and philosophy behind the art form.Overall, I feel like I learned a lot of great information and vocabulary related to hobbies and leisure activities from this unit. Having fun is an important part of life, and it's good to have interests that challenge our minds and bodies in positive ways. I'm definitely inspired to spend more of my free time pursuing hobbies I'm passionate about!篇4Hi friends! I'm so excited to tell you all about Unit 3 in our new English textbook. It's all about sports and activities we can do to stay active and healthy. As a kid, I just love playing games and running around, so this unit was super fun for me!The first thing we learned were some cool new words related to sports and fitness. Like "opponent" which means the person or team you're competing against. And "spectator" for peoplewatching a game or event. We also learned words like "pitch", "court", and "track" for the different places we play sports. One of the reading passages was about a teenage girl named Lucy who loved playing badminton. Badminton is that game where you hit a shuttlecock back and forth over a net. Lucy's story talked about how she got into badminton, her practice routine, and the big tournaments she played in. I didn't know badminton could be so competitive!Another reading was about the history of the Olympic Games. The Olympics started way back in ancient Greece as a religious festival to honor the gods. Athletes would compete in sports like wrestling, boxing, and chariot racing! How crazy is that? The modern Olympic Games started up again in 1896 and now happen every four years in different countries around the world. My favorite part of the unit was learning about some classic games and sports from different cultures. Like sepak takraw from Southeast Asia - it's kind of like volleyball but you can't use your hands or arms at all! You have to kick and headbutt the rattan ball over the net. It looks really hard but fun.We also read about keepy uppies, a game from the UK where you see how many times you can kick a ball up in the airwithout letting it hit the ground. The record is over 100,000 keepy uppies in a row - I can barely do 10!Then there was inuit footbags, an Inuit game kind of like hacky sack but played with a small seal pouches stuffed with moss or caribou hair. The players kick the footbag back and forth, doing crazy tricks to keep it off the ground. I tried making one at home with some socks and rice but it didn't work out so well. For the writing section, we had to write instructions explaining how to play a game or sport. I chose to write about freeze dance since that's one of my favorites from P.E. class. You have to dance around while the music plays, but freeze in whatever position you're in when it stops! We also learned lots of useful expressions for talking about sports and activities. Like "take up" for starting a new hobby, "keep fit" for exercising regularly, and "pick up" for learning a new skill quickly. These will really come in handy when I chat about my after-school activities.Oh and I can't forget about all the cool sports vocabulary we picked up - words like "medal", "championship", "foul", "referee", and so many more. Now I sound like a real expert when I'm watching sports on TV with my dad!Overall, I had a blast with this unit. It combined my love of playing active games with learning English at the same time. I even taught my little brother some sepak takraw moves (don't tell mom about the broken lamp though!).Learning about sports from around the globe also opened my eyes to how many awesome ways there are to stay fit and have fun. Who knows, maybe I'll be competing in the Olympics one day! An elementary school kid can dream, right?Anyway, that's the scoop on Unit 3 - sports, games, and activities galore. I'm already pumped for the next unit. Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be a Ball! (Get it? Ball? Like the sports thing? Haha, I'm hilarious.) Until next time, friends!篇5Welcome to English Class!Hi everyone! Today, I'm going to share with you some important things we learned in Unit 3 of our English textbook. Are you ready?
