What is OPC?
OPC is an abbreviation for “OLE for Process Control”
OPC is open connectivity via open standards. It is all about Open Productivity & Connectivity in industrial automation.
Let's look at this picture,It tells us the OPC classic architechtures.
OPC Data access server get data from device(divais)such as PLC and smart intelligent instruments. Then it tranfer the data to OPC data access client such as HMI.

How to use OPC?
Let's see an example of OPC.It's between software and software
The left software we see is a configuration software which is known as Force Control,It owns friendly interface and monitor ability.The right software is familiar to us,Matalb It has strong computing ability.
Then let's see how to implement an OPC communication.
At first,let's configure Force Control.first,create a project.Second,Create an OPC server.the left is the OPC Server as PCAuto.OPCServer.Then we create variable a one and a two. hte next,run the project.then,configure variable list
Let's have a look at the project running result.The value of variable is changing as time flies or through operation.
Then,we have to configure Matlab to activate it.
Before conduct a connection,we should register OPC in Matlab.
then we create a connection
next,add data group
then add data item
then we can connect OPC Server
read the data,compute then write to Force Control or display in Matlab
That's the running result of Matlab

From the simple connection,we can get the conclusion below:
first. It’s very convenient to implement the connection between Matlab and Force C ontrol. second. Force Control and Matlab can complement each other's advantages.
