Tony: Well, on Fridays, there are student volunteers who help serve food to homeless people. And on Saturday mornings, a group of students goes to a children’s hospital to cheer up all the little kids there.
4. What kind of volunteer work does Tony’s entire school do every year? Every year, they raise money to give to a different charity.
5. Who suggests going to the children’s hospital for this year’s volunteer project? Wang Li.
My cousin Jiang Lili worked as a volunteer to tutor children of medical workers after the COVID-19 broke out. Many nurses and doctors went to fight with the virus day and night. Their kids were left at home and some felt anxious. Her job was to help several children with their homework and provide extracurricular activities and psychological support online. She told me that though she was not on the front line, she still wanted to contribute her efforts to this fight.

“Do you mean that every flower has its own beauty?”asked my mother thoughtfully._____________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________
I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day.But she sensed my upset, and instead of practising my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine(藤) was turning green.Under the huge trees,we could see yellow dandelions(蒲公 英) appearing unexpectedly through the grass in bunches(簇),as if a painter were adding small amounts of gold to our landscape.I watched my mother casually bend down by one of the bushes.“I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds,”she said, pulling a blossom up by all its roots.“From now on,we’ll only have roses in this garden.”I immediately argued,“But I like dandelions. All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions.”

人教版高中英语选修四第四单元词汇表

人教版高中英语选修四第四单元词汇表全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 4th grader. Today I want to tell you all about some really cool English words I learned from my big sister's textbook. She's in high school and taking this extra English class called Elective 4. In Unit 4, there were a bunch of awesome vocabulary words that sparked my curiosity and imagination! The first word that jumped out at me was "anthropology." It sounds like some kind of fancy study about people, and it is! Anthropology is the study of humans and human behavior and societies across the world. I think that's so neat - learning about how different cultures live and what traditions they have. My best friend's family is from India and I love hearing about their customs.Another crazy word from the unit is "archaeology." This one is about studying ancient human life by digging up old artifacts and ruins. How cool is that? Getting to uncover mysteries from long ago buried underground. My mind wandered thinkingabout some kid from the future being an archaeologist and digging up our modern artifacts like smartphones and cars. I'll have to be sure to bury a time capsule! Then there's "exploitation" which sadly means taking advantage of someone or something in a way that causes harm. Like if someone really rich made workers do hard labor for tiny pay, that's exploitation. It's an upsetting word because it represents being inconsiderate and greedy. We should all aim to be the opposite - helpful and giving!"Indigenous" is a vocab word I really liked. It describes the native people or species from a particular area, like the indigenous tribes of the Amazon rainforest. My class learned that it's important to respect indigenous cultures and preserve their ways of life and lands. I feel sorry for any indigenous groups that have been mistreated or had their homes destroyed.Okay, get ready for this doozy: "ethnocentrism." This is the idea that your own culture or ethnic group is superior to others. From what I understand, this way of thinking can lead to prejudice, discrimination, and even conflicts between groups of people. The world has seen way too many examples of that throughout history. I believe all cultures and ethnicities are equally important and valuable! Those were some of the bigger, more academic-sounding words that piqued my interest. But the unit also had a bunch of interesting slang terms too! Words like "shady" meaning dishonest or not to be trusted. Or "throwing shade" which is a way of insulting or mocking someone. I have to admit some of those slang phrases sound kind of fun and sassy to say, but I'll be careful about using insults of course. There were amusing terms like "hang out" for spending time casually with friends, and "couch potato" for someone lazy who watches too much TV. My dad calls me a couch potato sometimes when I'm glued to my video games! Then there's "fashionista" for a person who absolutely lives for fashion and trendy styles. My older sister is totally a fashionista.I loved learning "road trip" which sounds way more exciting than just going on a drive somewhere. A road trip is a longer journey, often unplanned, where you stop at different locations and just go with the flow. Taking an epic road trip across the whole country would be the dream! Hopefully my family can go on one someday. There was also this funny word "mansplain" that made me giggle. It's when a man explains something to a woman in a condescending way, acting like he knows everything about thetopic even if she's the expert! I couldn't help laughing imagining a guy trying to mansplain cooking to a professional chef. My mom rolled her eyes at that one since she's had to deal with mansplaining before. The last word I'll mention is "meme" which is everywhere online these days. A meme is like an image, video, piece of text, etc. that spreads rapidly and gets shared a ton, especially for humorous purposes. I have so many favorite memes that I share with my friends - anything from cute animal pics to creative jokes. Memes are just such a fun part of internet culture now.Phew, that was a lot of words and definitions! But I had a blast learning and imagining the meanings behind them all. Isn't the English language filled with such cool, descriptive,thought-provoking terms? I'm excited to keep expanding my vocabulary and hey, maybe I'll have my own section in a textbook someday. A girl can dream! So those were some highlights from Unit 4 of my sister's English Elective textbook. I may be just a kid, but impressive words like anthropology, indigenous, and ethnocentrism really made me stop and think. And who doesn't love lighthearted slang like "couch potato" or "shady"? I'm grateful I got this sneak peek at more advanced English concepts. Words have suchimmense power to teach us about different cultures, express ideas, and yes, even meme-ify the internet! I can't wait to keep learning.篇2Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 10-year-old girl who loves learning new words. Today, I want to share with you some really cool words I learned from my big sister's English textbook. She's in high school and studying for something called the "English Elective Course 4". Sounds fancy, right?Anyway, let's dive into the fun world of words from Unit 4! First up, we have the word "renaissance". It means a new beginning or a revival of something, like when a caterpillar becomes a beautiful butterfly – that's a renaissance! Isn't that an awesome word?Next, we have "legacy". This word refers to something that's left behind by someone or something from the past. For example, my grandma's recipes are her legacy to our family. We get to enjoy her delicious cooking even though she's not with us anymore.Have you ever heard of the word "paradigm"? It sounds a bit like a riddle, doesn't it? A paradigm is a way of thinking or amodel that helps us understand something. Like how my teacher uses examples to help us understand math problems – that's a paradigm! Now, let's talk about "paradox". A paradox is something that seems to contradict itself but is actually true. For instance, it's a paradox that the more you share your toys with your friends, the more fun you have!Ooh, here's a tricky one: "arbitrary". This word means something that's based on random choice or personal opinion, rather than any rules or reasons. Like when my mom says I can't have ice cream for dinner – that's an arbitrary decision!Moving on, we have "ambiguous". This word describes something that's unclear or has more than one possible meaning. Like when my dad tells a joke and I don't understand it, I say, "Dad, that was ambiguous!"Next up is "validate". To validate something means to confirm or prove that it's true or correct. Like when my teacher validates my answer in class by saying, "Well done, Lily!"Have you ever heard of the word "rationalize"? It means to try to explain or justify something using reasons or logic. Forexample, when I want to stay up late, I rationalize it by saying, "But I'm not tired!"Now, let's talk about "coherent". Something that's coherent is logical, consistent, and makes sense. Like when my best friend tells a story in a way that flows smoothly and doesn't confuse me – that's a coherent story! Finally, we have "reinforce". To reinforce something means to strengthen or support it. Like when my mom gives me a big hug after I've done something brave, it reinforces my courage.Whew, that was a lot of words! But don't worry, I'll keep practicing and learning more cool words from my sister's textbook. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be the one teaching you new words!篇3My Big Sister's English WordsHi everyone! My name is Xiao Ming and I'm in 3rd grade. My big sister Mei Mei is in 11th grade and she's really smart. She takes this special English class called "English Elective 4" and I think the words she learns are super cool and interesting. The other day I was looking at her English book and saw all these funny words I'd never heard before. I asked her what they meant and she explained them to me. I thought you guys might think they were cool too, so I'm going to tell you about some of my favorites!First up is this word "ubiquitous." Isn't that a funny sounding word? My sister said it means something is everywhere or really common. Like how toys are ubiquitous in our house - they're all over the place! I like that word. Then there's "susceptible." Mei Mei said it means easy to be influenced or affected by something. Like how I'm really susceptible to believing anything my dog Buddy does is super cute and funny. I'm just so susceptible to his adorable puppy eyes! Here's another good one: "belittle." To belittle means to make something seem small or unimportant. My mom is always telling me not to belittle my little brother's drawings just because he's little. They may not be perfect but they're still special to him.One word that sounds kind of scary is "malign." It means to speak badly about someone in order to hurt their reputation. Mei Mei said we should never malign others because it's really mean and hurtful. I'll be sure to never malign anyone!"Fickle" is a weird little word that means changing frequently, especially when it comes to feelings and opinions. Like how I'm fickle about what my favorite snack is - one week it's cookies, the next it's ice cream!Let me tell you about "elusive" now. Something elusive is hard to find, describe, or achieve. Like how getting my little brother to eat his vegetables is just so elusive no matter what we try. So frustrating! This next word is "evasive." If someone is being evasive, it means they are avoiding giving a direct answer about something. Whenever I ask my parents if I can get a pet snake, they get all evasive and change the subject. I'm on to you, mom and dad! Here's a silly word for you: "gullible." A gullible person is someone who is really easy to trick or fool because they're too trusting. My grandpa always jokes that I'm gullible if I believe anything he says. I'm catching on to his tricks though!"Pragmatic" is a big word that means dealing with things in a practical way based on facts instead of ideas or theories. My parents are always telling me I need to be more pragmatic about things like cleaning my room before I get distracted playing video games. The last word I'll share is "cynical." Mei Mei says being cynical means you have a negative and doubtful attitude where you disagree with or question the motivations of others. She saidI shouldn't be too cynical at my age and should just enjoy beinga kid!Well, those are some of the cool vocabulary words my big sister is learning in her English class. I think words like ubiquitous, susceptible, and fickle are really fun to say. And now you know what they mean too! Maybe you can impress your teachers or parents with your big English vocabulary. Just don't be too gullible if they try to trick you!篇4My Bigger Sis is Learning Some Super Cool Words!Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 8 years old. I love playing video games, riding my bike, and telling jokes to my friends. But you know what's even more fun? Listening to my bigger sister Emily practice her English vocabulary from school!Emily is in 11th grade now and she's taking this really neat English class called "Elective Course 4." I always sneak into her room when she's studying because the words she has to learn are just so awesome and crazy sounding.Last week, she was going over the words from Unit 4. Get ready, because these words are total tongue twisters! The first one was "acquisition" which means to get or buy something. Emily said it's like when I beg Mom to get me a new video game - that's an acquisition! Then there was "incentive" which is something that motivates you to do something. Like when Mom says if I clean my room, she'll give me an extra dessert. That yummy dessert is the incentive! Mmm...I love incentives. But my favorite word from that unit was "philanthropist." A philanthropist is a really rich person who donates tons of money to good causes to help others. How cool is that? I want to be a philanthropist when I grow up so I can give away millions of dollars! Wouldn't that be so much fun? There were some other great words too like "privatization" which is when a company or business gets ownership from the government. "Sustainable" means something that can continue for a long time without being used up. And "unanimous" means everyone agrees on something. Like when my whole class unanimously agrees that recess should be longer!Emily also had to learn phrases like "be contingent on" which means something depends on something else happening first.Like I can't have my dessert incentive unless I'm done cleaning my room - it's contingent on that! There was "bring about" too which means to cause something to happen. Like when I leave my smelly socks on the floor, it brings about Dad yelling at me to clean up. Hehe...whoops!Oh and get this - "come into effect" means a new law or rule starts being enforced. Kinda like when the teacher says any bathroom breaks now have to be approved first - that rule came into effect after Tommy wet his pants in class. Poor Tommy!I could listen to Emily practice her vocabulary all day long. All those big sophisticated words are just so much fun to say and try to understand. Some of them don't make any sense at first, but once Emily explains them, I'm like "Ohhhh, I get it now!"Like there was this one word "arbitrary" which means based on random choice instead of being planned or based on reason. That one stumped me until Emily said it's like when Mom makes me go to bed at 8pm arbitrarily instead of having a good reason like I'm tired. Makes sense! My personal favorite words though are the funny sounding object ones. Like "franchise" which is the right to sell acompany's products or services. That reminds me of those superhero movie franchises I love watching! And how about "patrimony" - that's properties or rights inherited from ancestors. I'm gonna make sure to inherit the full patrimony of comic books and action figures from Dad one day! There were a few other fun object words like "enormity" meaning the outrageous or immense scale of something evil. "Stratagem" is a clever deception or trick. And "acrimony" is bitterness or anger from a conflict. I'm gonna have to start using those in my playground arguments!Ooh, I can't forget about "euphemism" which Emily said is an inoffensive way of saying something unpleasant. Like instead of saying I didn't study for my test, I can use the euphemism "I was unprepared." Sounds way better! And learningnew phrases is always a blast too. Like "make a pitch" which means to try to convince someone of something. I have to make a pitch to Mom every year to get the newMadden game. One year it actually worked! There was also "make headway" which is to make progress towards achieving a goal. I'm really making headway on completing my sticker collection this year. Only 57 more to go!Wow, I've rambled on forever about Emily's fancy vocabulary words. Can you believe how many there are just from one unit? Crazy, right?! I'll have to keep sneaking into her room to hear the new words she's learning.English class sounds like so much fun now that Emily is getting to the higher levels. I can't wait until I'm bigger and get to learn words like "acquisition" and "philanthropist" myself. For now, I'll settle for listening in and trying my best to understand my bigger sis's super cool vocabulary!Who knows, maybe one day I'll be a philanthropist who can franchise out my very own euphemism company. Anything is possible when you know the right words!篇5Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 4th grader. I love learning new words and today I want to tell you all about the cool vocabulary I just learned from Unit 4 of my big sister's English textbook. It's for senior high school students, but I think a lot of the words are really interesting and useful even for a kid like me. Let me share what I've discovered! The first word that caught my eye was "anthropology". It sounds like some big fancy science word, right? Well, it actuallymeans the study of humans and human culture. How cool is that? Learning about different people and how they live. My teacher says anthropologists are like detectives trying to unravel the mysteries of humanity. I wanna be an anthropology detective when I grow up!Then there's this word "artifact". It refers to an object made by humans, like ancient tools, pottery, or even modern stuff like computers. Anything created by people counts as an artifact. Just thinking about all the artifacts throughout history that tell stories about past civilizations is mind-blowing. Maybe I'll discover an awesome artifact when I become a famous anthropologist!Okay, get ready for a real tongue-twister: "archaeological". It basically means related to archaeology, which is the study of ancient cultures by digging up and examining their artifacts and ruins. Archaeologists are like Indiana Jones, uncovering lost cities and treasures buried underground for centuries. How epic would it be to make an archaeological discovery that rewrites history books? Sign me up!Moving on, there's "ethnocentrism". It refers to judging other cultures solely based on the values and standards of one's own culture. Yeah, not a nice thing to do. We should respect cultural diversity instead of putting our own ways on a pedestal. The world has so many vibrant traditions and perspectives to appreciate, not dismiss as weird or inferior. Ethnocentrism is definitely not cool. Here's another tough one: "paleontology". It's the scientific study of prehistoric life forms through fossils and ancient remains. Can you imagine brushing off layers of rock to reveal the skeleton of a dinosaur or some other mind-bending creature that roamed the Earth millions of years ago? How insanely awesome would that be? I'm totally geeking out over paleontology right now.Don't even get me started on "anthropoid". It's a fancy name for monkeys, apes, humans, and other primate relatives. We're all part of this big anthropoid family tree that branched off into separate species over millions of years. Just thinking about our deep ancestral connections to gorillas, chimpanzees and the like is wild. We're like distant anthropoid cousins!Ooh, here's a fun one: "artifact". Yes, I know I mentioned it before but technically it's two separate words with slightly different meanings that I just learned. This time it's "artefact" with an E instead of I. It refers to a product or effect that was not intended or expected, usually from a process or technology. Like when you try to bake cookies and they come out as this weird, misshapen blob. That unplanned blobby disaster would be considered an artefact. The English language sure keeps things interesting! There are so many other awesome vocab gems, like "megalith" (those huge, prehistoric stone monuments), "Neolithic" (the late Stone Age period), and "cuneiform" (one of the earliest written script systems using wedge-shaped symbols). My brain is exploding with all this knowledge about ancient civilizations, human origins, fossils, and the mind-bending history of our species.I may only be a 4th grader, but learning these anthropology and archaeology words has opened my eyes to the incredible richness of human culture across millennia. Our ancestors were way more advanced and fascinating than I ever imagined, leaving behind tantalizing clues about their lives through artifacts, fossils, and the ruins of great cities.Just thinking about an archaeologist somewhere right now meticulously brushing dust off an ancient pot or bone fragment gives me goosebumps. What wonders and mysteries are waiting to be uncovered and studied by anthropologists, paleontologists, and other scientists dedicated to understanding our human story?I'm totally obsessed and can't wait to grow up to become an anthropologist/archaeologist extraordinaire. Look out, Indiana Jones, here I come! This little 4th grade anthropology fangirl is going to help unearth our species' most mind-blowing secrets. We may be highly evolved modern humans, but our roots stretch back through an epic, artifact-filled journey across millennia. And I cannot wait to explore every twist and turn. It's a big, endlessly fascinating world of cultures, fossils, and history out there just waiting to be discovered. Better start studying up on those vocab words now - this kiddo's got some major anthropological adventures ahead!篇6Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I'm in 5th grade and I love learning new words and reading all kinds of books. My English teacher just gave us a big list of really cool words to learn for our next unit. She said they are from a high school textbook, but I think they are super interesting and I can't wait to learn them all!The first word is "etiquette." I had never heard this word before, but my teacher explained it means the proper way to behave in certain situations. Like having good table manners is atype of etiquette. I think etiquette is really important because it shows respect for others.Another fun word is "predominant." It means the main or most noticeable thing. Like if you look at a picture of a forest, the green trees would be the predominant color. I like trying to use new words like this when I'm describing things to my friends and family. Then there's "scenario." A scenario is an imaginary situation that could possibly happen. My friends and I like making up silly scenarios about what we would do if we got superpowers or won the lottery. Using your imagination for different scenarios is a great way to get creative."Undermine" is a neat word that means to weaken or destroy something gradually. Like telling little lies could undermine someone's trust in you over time. It makes me think of things being chipped away bit by bit. Here's a tricky one: "discrepancy." It means a lack of agreement or a difference between things that should be the same. Like if I did my math homework but got a different answer than the one in the book, there would be a discrepancy I'd have to figure out.My teacher told us "incentive" is something that motivates you to do something. Like a reward could be an incentive to study hard. I always feel really incentivized to do my chores when my parents promise me an incentive like extra TV time! The word "ethic" kind of looks like "etiquette" but it means a moral belief about what is right or wrong. Having good ethics like being honest and kind is really important. My family's ethics about protecting the environment mean we try to recycle as much as possible.I think "spontaneous" is such a funny word! It means happening without being planned. Like when my little brother just randomly starts dancing around the living room, that's pretty spontaneous behavior. I like having spontaneous fun from time to time, but I also need to plan and follow a schedule most days. And one more cool word: "inevitable." It describes something that can't be avoided or prevented from happening. Like growing up and getting older is inevitable for all of us. No matter what we do, we'll keep getting taller and wiser each year!Well, that's just some of the awesome vocabulary we're going to learn about next. I'm really excited to dig into all these new words and concepts. Expanding my vocabulary makes mefeel like a little sponge soaking up more and more knowledge. Maybe by the time I get to high school I'll be a walking dictionary! Okay, gotta run and go show my parents how smart I'm getting. See ya!。
