Should We Help Them?
With economy developing, the world can be divided into two parts, one is developed country, the other is developing country, when the developing countries happen something, and they need help. Whether we give them aid or not, there exist two views.
Many people think that countries have a moral obligation to help each other, think that countries have a moral obligation to help each other, firstly. No one can correctly predict what will happen tomorrow, so any country may be in trouble. One day, if they help these countries who need help, they’ll gain more aids. Secondly, as a person, we have a mo ral obligation to help others, so does the country.
While others argue that the aid money is misspent by the governments that receive it, this
way doesn’t attain the country’s people. On the one hard, official attain the country’s people. On the one hard, offical attain the country’s people. On the one hard, official and people will attack contradicton. On the other hard, they rely on the international aid without developing. They rely on the international aid without develping. So international did should not be given to the poor countries in the world.
As far as I am concerned, everything has two parts, we should insist on giving help to the poor country, except for money, the technology is important for them.

The most serious ones were the construction of rails able to bear load, and the development of a safe, effective stopping system. Once these were solved, the railroad was established as the best means of land transportation. By 1870 there were thousands of miles of railroads crossing the eastern mountain ranges and reaching western lines.n . Write an outline.20%Read the following passage carefully and then write a “ sentence outline ” or a “ topic outline ” for it.Ice Cream1The history of ice cream is a mystery. No one knows exactly how and when people began to eat it. There is one story that the Roman Emperor Nero(A.D.37-68) sent slaves to the mountains to bring back snow. The snow was served to him sweetened with honey and fruit pulp. Marco Polo(1254-1324) tasted flavored ices, too, during his famous travels in the Far East. He brought the recipes back to Italy.Recipes for ices spread from Italy to the rest of Europe in the 1500’ s. the chefs of kings constantly experimented with new combinations to please their masters, and at some point cream and butter were added to the recipes for ices. The new dish was called cream ice. Cream ice, molded into amusing shapes, began to be served on the tables of kings across Europe. Louis XII(1638-1715) surprised his court with a dessert of eggs in cups of silver and gilt. The eggs, of course, were really cream ice.Gradually cream ice took the name it has today. One of the earliest advertisements for ice cream was put in a New York paper in 1786. The ad announced that “ Ladies and gentlemen may be supplied with ice cream every day at the City Tavern by their humble servant, Joseph Crowe. ” But ice cream was still not an everyday event. It was usually presented in fancy shapes at the end of dinner parties. Dolley Madison (1768-1849) was famous for her imaginative dinners, and she was the first to serve ice cream at the White House. When her guests came into the dining room, they found a table covered with delicious dishes, and in the center of the table, a huge mound of pink ice cream on a silver platter.Ice cream was such a delicacy because it was so hard to make. At first it was beaten and then shaken by hand in a pan of salt and ice until it became firm. A freezer that was cranked by hand was developed around 1846. Making ice cream was still a chore, but cranking the freezer was much easier and faster than shaking the mixture in a pan.“ Ice-cream socials ” became a popular way to entertain friends. Everyone helped turn the crank of the freezer, and homemade peach or strawberry ice cream was the reward. The development of the continuous freezer in the 1920 ’s made the manufacture of ice cream very quick and economical. It soon was easier to buy packaged ice cream than to make it at home. Eskimo pies and Popsicles began to be sold at the same time.Possibly ice-cream cones began with the World ’s Fair in 1893. V endors there sold Fried Ice Cream. The ice cream was covered with a fritter batter and then quickly dipped in very hot lard or olive oil. Putting the ice cream in an already prepared cone was the next step. Today there aremany novelty products, from frozen drumsticks to ice-cream pies.in .Composition 60%Some university students want to live in a room alone. Every dawn, as I thud around New York City’s Central Park reservoir, I amreminded of how much I hate it. It’s so tedious. Some claim jogging is thought conducive;others insist the scenery relieves the monotony. For me, the pace is wrong for contemplation of either ideas or vistas. While jogging, all I can think about is jogging—or nothing. One advantage of jogging around a reservoir is that there’s no dry shortcut home.(2) From the listless looks of some fellow trotters, I guess I am not alone in my unenthusiasm:Bill-paying, it seems, would be about as diverting. Nonetheless, we continue to jog; more, we continue to choose to jog. From a practically infinite array of opportunities, we select one that we don’t enjoy and can’t wait to have done with. Why?(3) For any trend, there are as many reasons as there are participants. This person runs to lower hisblood pressure. That person runs to escape the telephone or a cranky spouse or a filthy household. Another person runs to avoid doing anything else, to dodge a decision about how tolead his life or a realization that his life is leading nowhere. Each of us has his carrot and stick. In my case, the stick is my slackening physical condition, which keeps me from beating opponents at tennis whom I overwhelmed two years ago. My carrot is to win.(4) Beyond these completely different reasons, however, lies a deeper cause. It is no accident thatnow, in the last third of the twentieth century, personal fitness and health have suddenly become a popular obsession. True, modern man likes to feel good, but that hardly distinguishes him from his predecessors.(5) With amusingly ridiculous myopia (目光短浅), economists like to claim that the deeper causeof everything is economic. Delightfully, there seems no marketplace explanation for jogging.True, jogging is cheap, but then not jogging is cheaper. And the scant and simple equipment which jogging demands must make it a marketer’s least favored form of recreation.(6)Some scout-masterish philosophers argue that the appeal of jogging and other body-maintenance programs is the discipline they afford. We live in a world in which individuals have fewer and fewer obligations. The work week has shrunk. Weekend worship is less compulsory. Technology gives us more free time. Satisfactorily filling free time requires imagination and effort. Freedom is a wide and risky river; it can drown the person who does not know how to swim across it. The more obligations one takes on, the more time one occupies, the less threat freedom poses. Jogging can become an instant obligation. For a portion of his day, the jogger is not his own man; he is obedient to a regimen he has accepted.(7)Theologists may take the argument one step further. It is our modern irreligion, our lack ofconfidence in any hereafter, that makes us anxious to stretch our mortal stay as long as possible. We run, as the saying goes, for our lives, hounded by the suspicion that these are the only lives we are likely to enjoy.(8) All of these theorists seem to me more or less right. As the growth of cults and charismaticreligions and the resurgence of enthusiasm for the military draft suggest, we do crave commitment. And who can doubt, watching so many middle-aged and older persons torturing themselves in the name of fitness, that we are unreconciled to death, more so perhaps than any generation in modern memory?(9) But I have a hunch (预感) that there’s a further explanation of our obsession with exercise. Isuspect that what motivates us even more than a fear of death is a fear of dearth. Our era is the first to anticipate the eventual depletion of all natural resources. We see wilderness shrinking;rivers losing their capacity to sustain life; the air, even the stratosphere (同温层), being loaded with potentially deadly junk. We see the irreplaceable being squandered, and in the depths of our consciousness we are fearful that we are creating an uninhabitable world. We feel more orless helpless and yet, at the same time, desirous to protect what resources we can. We recycle soda bottles and restore old buildings and protect our nearest natural resource—our physical health—in the almost superstitious hope that such small gestures will help save an earth that we are damaging. Jogging becomes a sort of penance for our sins of gluttony, greed, and waste.Like a hairshirt or a bed of naril, the more one hates it, the more virtuous it makes one feel. (10)That is why we jog. Why I jog is to win at tennis.IV. In this section, there are ten incomplete statements, followed by four choices marked A, B, C and D. But anyone can improve his or her mood by getting married. The effect begins about a year before the : “happy day ”and lasts for at least a year afterward .For most people, satisfaction levels do return to their baseline, but the researchers say this conceals(掩盖) the fact that a good marriage can have a permanent positive effect. Furthermore, people who are less happy to begin with will get a bigger boost from marriage. And it seems there’s something special about signing that piece of paper:The research shows that you can’t get as much benefit from simply cohabiting (同居)。
自考英语专业《英语写作及答案》练习题
英语写作及答案I. Supply the missing paragraph(10 points)The following passage is incomplete with on body paragraph missing. Study the passage carefully and write the missing paragraph of about 100 words. Make sure that the tone and vocabulary you use are in unity with the passage provided. As we have seen, the focus of medical care in our society has been shifting from curing disease to preventing disease—especially in terms of changing our many unhealthy behaviors, such as poor eating habits, smoking, and failure to exercise. The line of thought involved in this shift can be pursued further. Imagine a person who is about the right weight, but does not eat very nutritious foods, who feels OK but exercises only occasionally, who goes to work every day, but is not an outstanding worker, who drinks a few beers at home most nights but does not drive while drunk, and who has no chest pains or abnormal blood counts, but sleeps a lot and often feels tired. This person is not ill. He may not even be at risk for any particular disease. But we can imagine that this person could be a lot healthier. The field of medicine has not traditionally distinguished between someone who is merely “not ill”and someone who is in excellent health and pays attention to the body’s special needs. Both types have simply been called “well.”In recent years, however, some health specialists have begun to apply the terms “well”and “wellness”only to those who are actively striving to maintain and improve their health._______________________________________________________________________________People who are well are likely to be better able to resist disease and to fight disease when it strikes. And by focusing attention on healthy ways of living, the concept of wellness can have a beneficial impact on the ways in which people face the challenges of daily life.II. Write an outline(20 points)Read the following passage carefully and compose a "topic outline" for it.For a Better Understanding Between Parent and ChildNowadays there is often a lack of understanding between parent and child. Modern society has been changing greatly so much so that even the relations between parent and child have become much different from several decades ago. Far less do they communicate each other but they always complain and quarrel instead. As it is, generation gap has become quite a spreading social problem. As for the problem, various possible reasons may be found. Because of either economic necessity or strong determination for personal fulfillment, or both, neither father nor mother has any time to stay together with their children. On the other hand, teenagers eagerly feel the need for freedom away from their parents to explore their emerging identity as a young adult- to develop his own interests or to perfect his favorite skills, which their parents may not prefer. Hence, the parents must suffer the loss of their unruly little boy or girl, incapable of keeping their child to remain in the safe and familiar routines of early childhood or to do what they demand. Eventually, either parent or child becomes unsatisfied, no patient with each other and would not like to find any chance to understand the other. If this situation is to be navigated successfully, there are really some suggestions both forparent and child to follow. For parents, by recalling their own childhood experiences, they could understand and then try to help their own children whenever needed. They should also trust that only in very short time will the child emerge from the uncertainty of being a teenager and display the mature, adult character to forgive their parents for the sake of their hard work.. Bothe sides striving for a better understanding, it is no doubt that their relations will be improved quickly.III Sentence transformation (15 points)Transform the following sentences into better ones without changing their meanings. Suggestions to solve the problems.a. parents- help and trustb. children- their parents' hard-workIII. ConclusionIII. Composition (60 points)Dissatisfaction leads to progressThis article reminds me of a well-known story about a frog. The frog is put on the cool water at first, and then the water is boiled steadily, the frog cannot sense it till it died. I think this story put the fact to us very clearly: people likely become insensitive to the seeming comfortable environment; they enjoy it and never think of improving themselves, so when the dangers come it may be too late for them to do something about it.In contrary, those people who are dissatisfactory sometimes can leads progress. Especially in today’s fast growing world, if you don’t move, then you fall behind. Many facts can approve this, from the changes of social system to our own situations. The change of social system was due to people’s dissatisfaction of the former one, and the set up of the new on was certainly a great progress in human history. As for ourselves, we may go on study even after we have graduated from school, change job frequently, and so on. These are due to our desire to improve our current situations and to seek a better life. However, if you are not content with what you have at present and do nothing but complain, you cannot make progress, because only those who not just have a desire to improve but also adapt measures can succeed. So, if you are dissatisfactory, don’t stand still, take action, your future should be better欢迎您的下载,资料仅供参考!致力为企业和个人提供合同协议,策划案计划书,学习课件等等打造全网一站式需求。
