1848年2月，一本字数不多却震撼世界、影响人类的小册子——《共产党宣言》，在英国伦敦瓦伦街19号一家不大的印刷所诞生了。

《共产党宣言》第一句话的几种译法《共产党宣言》是一篇在世界上传播最广、影响最大的马克思主义纲领性文献，自1920年陈望道翻译第一个完整的中译本以来，我国先后翻译出版了十几个中译本。
有的同志提出：宣言正文第一句话非常有名，但不同中译本中第一句译文有很大差别，有的使用的是“怪物”一词，有的使用的是“幽灵”一词，那么，各中译本中第一句话的具体翻译情况如何，哪一种译法更符合原著的本义。
这里对此问题做点介绍。
●“怪物”、“巨影”、“魔怪”、“幽灵”--《共产党宣言》中译本正文第一句话的译法多达9种在中央编译局图书馆的馆藏图书中，可以查到《共产党宣言》的十几个中译本，其中正文第一句话至少有9种不同的译法。
1920年陈望道译本是：“有一个怪物，在欧洲徘徊着，这怪物就是共产主义。
”作为国内出版的《共产党宣言》第一个完整的中译本，该译本在上世纪二三十年代曾多次重印，广为流传，有力地促进了马克思主义在中国的传播。
1930年华岗译本是：“有一个怪物正在欧洲徘徊着--这怪物就是共产主义。
”该译本是由我党理论家华岗在陈望道译本的基础上，根据恩格斯亲自校订的1888年英文版《共产党宣言》重新翻译的。
在中央编译局图书馆中，没有华兴书局1930年初出版的华岗译本，只能找到1930年3月以“上海社会科学研究社”名义出版的署名潘鸿文的《马克斯主义的基础》一书，其中包含该译本。
1938年成仿吾、徐冰合译本是：“一个巨影在欧罗巴踯躅着--共产主义底巨影。
”由延安解放社出版的这个译本，是我党在根据地翻译出版的第一个《共产党宣言》全译本，抗战时期在各抗日根据地广泛传播，有些还流传到国统区甚至敌占区。
1943年博古校译本是：“一个幽灵在欧罗巴踯躅着--共产主义底(的)幽灵。
”博古在该译本中首先使用了“幽灵”这个词，为后人翻译《共产党宣言》提供了重要的借鉴。
博古校译本当年被党中央列为干部必读的马列原著。
1949年，莫斯科外国文书籍出版局出版了《共产党宣言》百周年纪念版，其中正文第一句话是：“一个怪影在欧洲游荡着--共产主义的(底)怪影。
共产党宣言》首句“幽灵”一词的解读

共产主义没有死，没有消亡，是活生生的、充满 生机和活力的崭新的主义。马克思、恩格斯的《共 产党宣言》就是宣布共产主义诞生的宣言书。
结合马克思和恩格斯对共产主义的态度及共产主 义运动的情况，共产主义的本质和特点,在中国的文 化和历史背景下，应该慎重翻译首句中个别词句。

不同的译文都属于翻译修辞方面的问题，可以说 是见仁见智。《共产党宣言》的译文是几代翻译工 作者在前人成果的基础上精益求精、不断修改完善 的结果。

他们辩解说“一个幽灵，共产主义的幽灵，在欧洲游荡。
为了对这个幽灵进行神圣的围剿，旧欧洲的一切势力，教皇和沙皇、梅特涅和基佐、法国的激进派和德国的警察，都联合起来了。
”是反对共产主义的人——敌人的话，是马克思用来反讽敌人的话。
笔者认为，这是诡辩。
我们要问，敌人在哪儿受到了讽刺？在这一段汉语话中，马克思讽刺了敌人什么？读者读完个段文字，看不出敌人被马克思讽刺了。
退一万步讲，如果这一段英语原话是马克思借用敌人的话，那只是马克思借用来说明共产主义受到了敌人的反对，而不是用来反讽敌人，因为敌人没有受到反讽；而且在翻译这样的话的时候，译文一定要明明白白、清清楚楚地表明出这一段话是马克思借用敌人的话说明共产主义受到了敌人的反对。
可是这一段汉语译文根本没有表示出马克思借用敌人的话说明共产主义受到了敌人的反对，更加看不出马克思借用敌人的话反讽敌人。
中央编译局的错误是怎样产生的？第一，中央编译局的译文照抄了博古的译文；第二，博古在翻译《共产党宣言》中的英语spectre的时候，照抄英语词典。
英语spectre 的译文可以是幽灵、亡灵、神灵、圣灵、精灵等二十几个汉语词语，就好像英语uncle一个词可以翻译成叔叔、伯伯、舅舅、姑父、姨夫等多个汉语词一样。
可是英语词典把spectre仅仅翻译成“幽灵”。
于是博古照抄词典，把the spectreof Communism翻译成“共产主义的幽灵”。
博古的翻译非常糟糕，不但不分语境，把spectre翻译成“幽灵”是一个天大的错误，非常糟糕，而且把the spectre of Communism的of翻译为“的”，也非常糟糕，是一个不懂英语语法、不懂汉语逻辑的大错误。
the spectre of Communism中的of的意思不是表示所有格的“的”，如不是“你的书”或者“我的笔”中的“的”的意思，而是表示两个名词的“并列”关系，如the City of Guangzhou,不能翻译成“广州的市”，只能翻译成“广州市”；the fool of a man不能翻译成一个“一个男人的傻瓜”，只能翻译成“那个傻瓜男人”。

李田心（70岁老翻译教授）
中央编译局错误译文：
“一个幽灵，共产主义的幽灵，在欧洲游荡。
为了对这个幽灵进行神圣的围剿，旧欧洲的一切势力，教皇和沙皇、梅特涅和基佐、法国的激进派和德国的警察，都联合起来了。
”
错误分析：
1.把共产主义翻译成幽灵，谩骂共产主义；
2.把.反动派对共产主义进行围剿说成是神圣的，歌颂反动派；
3..把教皇和沙皇、梅特涅和基佐、法国的激进派和德国的警察说成是欧洲一切势力的代表，
歌颂剥削阶级；
4.说共产主义在欧洲游荡，无业游民，无所事事，贬损共产主义；
5.“共产主义的幽灵”的意思是，暗暗谩骂共产主义已经死亡，因为只有死了的才有幽灵。
李田心教授的译文：
一个神灵，共产主义神灵，正在欧洲仙游。
为了对这个神灵进行宗教上的围剿，旧欧洲的所有“天使”——教皇和沙皇、梅特涅和基佐、法国的激进派和德国的警察密探，都联合起来了。

《共产党宣言》的开篇第一章被中央编译局翻译的面目全非。
中央编译局的翻译照抄博古的错误翻译。
第一个错误是错误翻译了马恩原话的一个德语词格式喷涂。
马恩的那一个德语词相当于汉语的十几个词，换言之，这一个德语词可以翻译成汉语十几个词，可以是褒义，也可以是贬义，还可以是中性。
外语中有很多这样的现象，如英语aunt，汉语可以翻译成阿姨、姑妈、舅妈。
伯娘、婶娘等，德语哪一个词可以翻译词幽灵、亡灵、神灵等十几个词。
博古首先把它翻译成幽灵，中央编译局照抄博古的错误翻译把它翻译成幽灵，于是就有了天大的错误。
实际上这里应该翻译成神灵，共产主义是神灵，犹如上帝（Holy Ghost）一样，对共产党人来说。
其他错误在这不分析，篇幅有限。
