介绍网球英语作文

介绍网球英语作文Tennis is a sport that has captured the hearts of millions around the globe. It's a game of finesse, strategy, and athleticism, played on a court that is a battleground for both amateurs and professionals alike. In this essay, we will delve into the essence of tennis, explore its jargon, and understand why it's often referred to as a "language" in itself. The Basics of the GameTennis is played with a racket and a hollow rubber ball covered with felt. The objective is simple: to hit the ball in such a way that it lands in the opponent's court, and they are unable to return it. The game is divided into points, games, and sets, with each player aiming to win the majority of these.Scoring in TennisThe scoring system in tennis is unique and can be a bit confusing for beginners. Points are awarded as follows: the first point is "15," the second "30," the third "40," and if a player wins the point after a "deuce" (40-40), they have the advantage. Two consecutive points are needed to win a game.Key Terms and Phrases- Racket: The term for the tennis player's primary tool, also known as a "tennis racket."- Serve: The act of starting a point by hitting the ball into the opponent's service box.- Forehand: A stroke that uses the back of the hand to hit the ball, typically a player's stronger side.- Backhand: The opposite of a forehand, where the palm faces forward when hitting the ball.- Volley: A shot taken in the air before the ball bounces.- Lob: A high, arching shot that is meant to make the opponent run.- Break Point: An opportunity to win a game where the opponent has to win only two points to hold their serve.- Grand Slam: A tournament that is considered major, such as Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open. The Language of TennisTennis has its own lexicon that is as integral to the sport as the game itself. Learning the terminology not only helpsin understanding the game better but also in communicating with other players and fans. The Cultural ImpactTennis is more than just a sport; it's a cultural phenomenon. It's a platform where athletes showcase not only their physical prowess but also their sportsmanship and character. The sport has produced icons like Serena Williams, RogerFederer, and Rafael Nadal, who have transcended the game and become global ambassadors for athleticism and perseverance.ConclusionTennis is a sport that offers a blend of physical challenge and intellectual engagement. Its unique scoring system, rich terminology, and cultural impact make it a fascinating subject for study and discussion. Whether you're picking up a racket for the first time or are an avid fan, understanding the nuances of tennis can enhance your appreciation for this classic game.。

网球介绍(英文)

Good afternoon everyone. Thank you for coming today. I'm Zhang Ya Jun from School of Urban Rail Transportation. I'm here to talk about Tennis, as you can see from the PPT slide. I hope after my presentation you will know some common sense about tennis and enjoy it. My talk will be divided into seven parts, which last about half an hour.Page2:Firstly, I'd like to give an overview of my talk. It contains the origin and development of tennis, tennis equipment, tennis court, tennis association, well-know events of tennis, Chinese tennis achievements and tennis terms.Page3:Right, let's start with the orign of tennis. The History of tennis game was developed from a 12th century French handball game called "Paume" (palm). In this game the ball was struck with the hand. After some time "Paume" game produced handball "Jeu de Paume" (game of the palm) and there were used racquets. The game was first created by European monks for entertainment roles during ceremonial occasions and spread and evolved in Europe. It became very popular, especially in France, where was adopted by the royal family.Page4:Between the 16th and 18th centuries the game of the palm was highly regarded by kings and nobleman. The French players would begin the palm game by shouting the word "Tenez" (Play!). The palm game soon came to be called "real tennis" or "royal".During 1530s, English king Henry VIII builds a tennis court at Hampton Court Palace (This court no longer exist but a similar court built there in 1625 and is in use until today).Until 1583, the first racquet was invented in Italy.Page5:In1873, Major Walter Wingfield invented a version of Real Tennis called 'Sphairistike' that can be played outdoors on a lawn, and where today's tennis developed. Wingfield deals Sphairistike in boxes that feature two net posts, a net, rackets, and India rubber balls. Wingfield’s boxes kick start the modern form of tennis, th ough the one thing that doesn’t work is the name, and Wingfield soon realizes that his subtitle "lawn tennis" is much better than greek word 'Sphairistike'.In 1874, Joseph and Clarence Clark (brothers), take one of Walter Wingfield’s boxes to America, leading to the first lawn tennis tournament in the USA later that year.In 1877, the very first World Tennis Championship was held at Worple Road in Wimbledon,London (UK).In 1881, America founded The United States National Lawn Tennis Association (USNLTA), and in the same year it holds its first National Championship, the forerunner of the U.S. Open but then restricted to American residents. It is held at Newport, Rhode Island. In 1887, U.S. Championships are open to women for the first time. Lottie Dodwins her first Wimbledon Ladies Singles (Lottie win her first singles match with only 15 years). In 1891, the very first French Championships are played, these Championships were open for French residents only.In 1896, tennis became one of the core sports in the first modern Olympic Games. Page6:Now, let us turn to the 20th century. In 1900, Dwight F.Davis, a Harvard university student decides to degree a team challenge match between the United States and the British Isles. The cup was engraved as "International Lawn Tennis Challenge Trophy", later known as the Davis Cup.In1905, the Australian National Championships, later became known as Australian Open are founded, with the venue alternating between centers in Australia and New Zealand.In1924, tennis retired from the Olympic Games referring a lack of professionalism in the arrangement and Olyimpic Games desire to not schedule Wimbledon Championships in an year of the Olympic Games. In 1967, the first metal tennis racquet appears thanks to Wilson. Wimbledon holds a demonstration tournament for professionals, and declares that its 1968 championships will be open to all participants, amateurs and professionals. It's the sign for tennis to go 'open'. And in 1968, the first official 'open' tournament takes place at Bournemouth on the English south coast, and the first Grand Slam, the newly named French Open, leads in a new era. Ken Rosewall, a returning professional won both events.By 21st century, it is a new Open Era of tennis history.Page7:Anyway, I'll leave the history here. So let's turn now to a brief understanding of the tennis equipment: racquets and balls. There are some requirements about the racquets. First of all, the hitting area, composed of the strings, must be flat and generally uniform. Second, The frame of the hitting area may not be more than 29 inches in length and 12.5 inches in width. Then, the entire racquet must be of a fixed shape, size, weight, and weight distribution. There may not be any energy source built into the racquet. Last of all, the racquet must not provide any kind of communication, instruction or advice to the player during the match.Tennis balls are of hollow rubber with a felt coating.Page8:Of course, if there is no court, no one can play tennis. So let's know something about the tennis court. The court is 78 feet (23.77 m) long, and 27 feet (8.23 m) wide for singles matches and 36 ft (10.97 m) for doubles matches. Additional clear space around the court is required in order for players to reach overrun balls. A net is stretched across the full width of the court, parallel with the baselines, dividing it into two equal ends. The netis 3 feet 6 inches (1.07 m) high at the posts and 3 feet (91.4 cm) high in the center. Page9:There are five types of court surface used in professional play. Each surface is different in the speed and height of the bounce of the ball. The same surface plays faster indoors than outdoors. Now I'd like to show you this form. On the left hand you can see the name of different surface. And on the other hand you can see the description. First, clay, examples are red clay (used at the French Open and many other tournaments, especially in Europe and Latin America) and green clay (an example of which is Har-Tru and used mainly in the U.S.). Clay courts normally have a slower paced ball and a fairly true bounce with more spin. Second, hard, examples are acrylic (e.g. Plexicushion used at the Australian Open, DecoTurf used at the US Open), asphalt, and concrete. Hardcourts typically have a faster-paced ball with a very true bounce. Third, grass, used at Wimbledon. Grass courts usually have a faster-paced ball, and a more erratic bounce. Wimbledon has slowed its courts over the years. Fourth, carpet, any form of removable court covering, including carpeting and artificial turf. The bounce can be higher or lower than a hard court. At last, wood, popular from the 1880s through the first half of the 20th century, there are no longer any professional tournaments held on wood.Page10:Let me show you some photos about the court of different surface to know more clear.Page11:Now we'll move on to the tennis association. They are ITF, ATP, and WTA.The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the governing body of world tennis, made up of 205 national tennis associations.Tennis association of China joined the ITF in July 1981.The ITF operates the three major national team competitions in the sport, the Davis Cup for men, the Fed Cup for women and the Hopman Cup, mixed teams. The ITF sanctions the four Grand Slams: the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. The Association of Tennis Professionals(ATP) was formed in 1972 by Donald Dell, Jack Kramer, and Cliff Drysdale to protect the interests of male professional tennis players. Since 1990, the association has organized the worldwide tennis tour for men and linked the title of the tour with the organization's name. In 1990 the organization was called the ATP Tour, which was renamed in 2001 as just ATP and the tour being called ATP Tour. In 2009 the name was changed again and is now known as the ATP World Tour. The ATP World Tour comprises Grand Slams, A TP World Tour Masters 1000, ATP World Tour 500 series, ATP World Tour 250 series, ATP Challenger Tour, and ITF Futures tennis tournaments. The ATP tour also oversees the World Team Cup, played in Düsseldorf in May, and the ATP Champions Tour for seniors. The Women's Tennis Association (WTA), founded in 1973 by Billie Jean King, is the principal organizing body of Women's Professional Tennis. It governs the WTATour which is the worldwide professional tennis tour for women. Its counterpart organization in the men's professional game is the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Jerry Diamond of San Francisco became Executive Director of the WTA in 1974 and remained until 1985. He is considered the creator the Women's Point System for ranking players.Page12:As a sport, tennis has its own well-know events. Now let me turn to the events. The Grand Slam tournaments are considered to be the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. They are held annually and include, in chronological order, the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.Page 13:The Australian Open is the only Grand Slam tennis tournament held in the southern hemisphere. The tournament was held for the first time in 1905 and was last contested on grass in 1987. Since 1972 the Australian Open has been held in Melbourne, Victoria. In 1988, the tournament became a hard court event. This photo is Margaret Court Arena at Melbourne Park during the 2008 Australian Open.Page14:The French Open is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks between late May and early June in Paris, France, at the Stade Roland Garros. It is the premier clay court tennis tournament in the world and the second of the four annual Grand Slam tournaments –the other three are the Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon. Roland Garros is the only Grand Slam held on clay and ends the spring clay court season.Page15:The Championships, Wimbledon, or simply Wimbledon (25 June –8 July in 2012), is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, considered by many to be the most prestigious. It has been held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London since 1877. It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, the other three Majors being the Australian Open, French Open and US Open. Wimbledon is the only Major still played on grass, the game's original surface, which gave the game of lawn tennis its name.Page16:The US Open, formally the United States Open Tennis Championships, is a hardcourt tennis tournament which is the modern iteration of one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, the U.S. National Championship, which for men's singles was first contested in 1881. Since 1987, the US Open has been chronologically the fourth and final tennis major comprising the Grand Slam each year.. The main tournament consists of five different event championships: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, with additional tournaments for senior, junior, and wheelchair players.Page17:The other famous event is Masters 1000 tournaments. The ATP World Tour Masters 1000 is a group of nine tournaments form the second-highest echelon inmen's tennis.Page18:Before the final part, I'd like to introduce the Chinese tennis. You may not have heard of tennis before 2004. However, 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Li Ting/Sun Tian Tian won the women's doubles title momentum. Since then, lot's of people fall love in tennis, including me.2006 Australian Open , Zheng Jie and Yan Zi won doubles.2006 Wimbledon, Li Na became the first Chinese player to reach a Grand Slam singles quarter-final.2008 Wimbledon, Zheng Jie became first Chinese player ever to reach semifinals of a Grand Slam singles tournament.2010 Australian Open, Li Na and Zheng Jie made history for becoming the first two Chinese players to reach the top four of a Grand Slam tournament simultaneously. In 2011, Li Na became the first player to reach the final of the Australian Open but was unable to take the title.2011 French Open, Li Na won her first Grand Slam singles title, thus becoming the first player from Asia to win a Slam.Page19:Now we come to the last part of my introduction.
