Tommy and I spent hours just watching them run around and play.Grandma always has a huge garden too. We picked berries, carrots, tomatoes, and other veggies right from the garden. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious! I helped Grandma bake a pie with the strawberries we picked. The pie was still warm when we ate it for dessert that night. Mmm, I can still remember how amazing it tasted!One day, Grandpa took us on a hike through the woods near their farm. We saw a family of deer drinking from a stream! They ran off when they heard us coming. We also found a bird's nest up in a tree with three speckled blue eggs inside. I had neverseen a real bird's nest up close before. On the hike, Grandpa taught us about the different trees, plants, and animal tracks we saw. He knows so much about nature from living on the farm his whole life.After visiting the grandparents for a week, we headed to the beach to meet up with my cousins for a few days. We stayed in a big beach house right on the ocean. Every morning I could see and hear the waves crashing on the shore from my bedroom window. The beach was a short walk through the dunes. We spent hours every day boogie boarding, building sandcastles, and playing beach games. My cousin Diego accidentally got his frisbee stuck up in a tall palm tree! We had to use a long stick to knock it down. One afternoon, we saw a school of dolphins swimming not too far from shore! That was so cool.We also went mini golfing one night. The course had goofy obstacles like windmills, climbing walls, and even a working miniature roller coaster to hit your ball through! Tommy and I tried our best but Diego ended up winning with the lowest score. Maybe next time I'll beat him.On the drive home from the beach, we stopped at a giant water park. They had awesome waterslides, a wave pool, lazy river, and more. The lazy river was nice to just float along and relax after going on all the wild rides.After getting home from our beach trip, we had a week left before school started again. During that week, we had a family reunion at a state park near our house. Cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents from both sides of the family all came. We played baseball, had sack races, did a scavenger hunt, and lots more fun activities. I got to meet some relatives I had never met before who live far away. We had a massive potluck picnic with every kind of food you can imagine - fried chicken, pasta salads, corn on the cob, watermelon, chips and salsa, you name it! Everybody brought their favorite dish to share. That night after the reunion, our bellies were completely stuffed.On the last weekend before school started, we went camping in the mountains. We hiked part of the Appalachian Trail during the day and made s'mores over the campfire at night. Sleeping in the tent under a sky full of stars was amazing. Even though it's been years since I readthem, I can still picture Pooh getting stuck in Rabbit's door while going after honey. Looking back, I realize those stories taught me a lot about friendship, kindness and using your imagination.While fiction books will always be my number one love, I also enjoy reading non-fiction books about real people, places and events. I have a huge book about ancient Egypt that I've read cover to cover multiple times. I'm fascinated by the pharaohs, mummies, pyramids and hieroglyphics.
