A famous story is from when a Spanish explorer, Cortez, came to Mexico. The natives there had a legend that one day a white God will come from the sea and help all of the people. Cortez and his men were white and they came on boats (by sea) So they thought this was their god and wanted, Cortez and his men to come into their amazing rich city. Of course, once Cortez and his men entered the city and saw their gold he and his men came back in the middle of the night and every single man, woman, and child.

Some tribes were very peaceful and kept to themselves. While some tribes were much more violent and often attacked their neighbor tribes to conquer them and take over their land.

What many textbooks DON’T talk about is that these Europeans were terrible to the Natives. They killed and/or raped them. The Europeans wanted to make sure that there would be no more Natives so they made sure to kill all of the women and children so they couldn’t make any more Native children. The Europeans gave the Natives diseases as well, destroyed their food, took their land, and made them move away from their homes. How did the Natives let this happen? Why did they not attack the Europeans when they first saw them?
