The Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the Moon Festival because it celebrates the brightest and fullest moon of the year.I love the Mid-Autumn Festival for so many reasons! First of all, it's a time when my whole family gets together. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all come over to my house and we have a big feast. My mom and grandma spend days cooking all my favorite foods like mooncakes, roasted duck, sticky rice dumplings, and sweet soup with lotus seeds and egg yolks. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water!After we finish eating, we go outside and admire the full moon. My dad always tells us the ancient legend of Chang'e, the lady who lived on the moon. I've heard the story a million times, but I never get tired of it. Then we light lanterns and candles and let them float up into the night sky. It's so magical watching all the flickering lights rise up towards the moon. My little cousin always gets scared the lanterns will float too high and get lost in space!My favorite part is yet to come though - the mooncakes! We light the little candles inside and run around waving them, making cool designs in the air with the flames. I love getting temporary tattoos, stuffed animal toys and eating way too many snacks and sweets at the fairs. We burn incense, wish for good luck and make offerings at the temple too.At home, it's my job to pass out the red envelopes to my younger cousins while elders give them to me and my siblings. There are so many fun traditions to observe like not sweeping the floors (you might sweep away luck!) and dressing up for crowds watching fire-cracker shows at night. I love the loud booms and bright sparks of the firecrackers welcoming the new year.One of my most cherished memories is the yearly reunion dinner on New Year's Eve with my extended family.
