2019浙江专升本--知乎教育英语全真模拟(二模)- 李桂平

浙江省2019年选拔优秀高职高专毕业生进入本科学习统一考试知乎教育英语全真模拟(二模)Part I Reading Comprehension(60marks,60minutes)Section A(50marks:2marks for each item)Format IDirections:There are4passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B,C and D.You should choose the best choice.Passage oneQuestions1to5are based on the following passage:The elephant was lying heavily on its side, fast asleep.A few dogs started barking at it.The elephant woke up in a terrible anger:it chased the dogs into the village where they ran for safety. That didn’t stop the elephant. It destroyed a dozen houses and injured several people. The villagers were scared and angry. Then someone suggested calling Parbati, the elephant princess.Parbati Barua’s father was a hunter of tigers and an elephant tamer. He taught Parbati to ride an elephant before she could even walk.He also taught her the dangerous art of the elephant round-up—how to catch wild elephants.Parbati hasn’t always lived in the jungle. After a happy childhood hunting with her father, she was sent to boarding school in the city. But Parbati never got used to being there and many years later she went back to her old fife."Life in the city is too dull.Catching elephants is an adventure and the excitement lasts for days after the chase,"she says. But Parbati doesn’t catch elephants just for fun.“My work,”she says,“is to rescue man from the elephants, and to keep the elephants safe from man.”And this is exactly what Parbati has been doing for many years.Increasingly, the Indian elephant is angry:for many years, illegal hunters have attacked it and its home in the jungle has been reduced to small pieces of land.It is now fighting back.Whenever wild elephants enter a tea garden or a village,Parbati is called to guide the animals back to the jungle before they can kill. The work of an elephant tamer also involves love and devotion.A good elephant tamer will spend hours a day singing love songs to a newly captured elephant.“Eventually they grow to love their tamers and never forget them. They are also more loyal than humans,”she said,as she climbed up one of her elephants and sat on the giant, happy animal. An elephant princess indeed!1.For Parbati, catching elephants is mainly to________.A.get long lasting excitementB.keep both man and elephants safeC.send them back to the jungleD.make the angry elephants tame2.what does“elephant tamer”mean?A.the man who feed elephantsB.the man who fight against elephantsC.the man who train elephants to do somethingD.the man who bring up elephants3.Before Parbati studied in a boarding school,________.A.she spent her time hunting with her fatherB.she learned how to sing love songsC.she had already been called an elephant princessD.she was taught how to hunt tigers4.Indian elephants are getting increasingly angry and they revenge because_______A.they are caught and sent for heavy workB.illegal hunters capture them and kill themC.they are attacked and their land gets limitedD.dogs often bark at them and chase them5.The passage starts with an elephant story in order to explain that in India_____A.people easily fall victim to elephants’attacksB.the man-elephant relationship is getting worseC.elephant tamers are in short supplyD.dogs are as powerful as elephantsPassage twoQuestions6to10are based on the following passage:My wife Laura and I were on the beach, with three of our children, taking pictures of shore birds near our home in Alaska when we spotted a bear. The bear was thin and small, moving aimlessly.Just a few minutes later,I heard my daughter shouting,“Dad!The bear is right behind us!”An aggressive bear will usually rush forward to frighten away its enemy but would suddenly stop at the last minute. This one was silent and its ears pinned back----the sign of an animal that is going in for the kill. And it was a cold April day.The bear behaved abnormally, probably because of hunger.I held my camera tripod(三脚架)in both hands to form a barrier as the bear rushed into me.Its huge head was level with my chest and shoulders, and the tripod stuck across its mouth. It bit down and I found myself supporting its weight.I knew I would not be able to hold it for long.Even so,this was a fight I had to win:I was all that stood between the bear and my family, who would stand little chance of running faster than a brown bear. The bear hit at the camera, cutting it off the tripod.I raised my left arm to protect my face;the beast held tightly on the tripod and pressed it into my side.My arm could not move, and I sensed that my bones were going to break.Drawing back my free hand,I struck the bear as hard as I could for five to six times. The bear opened its mouth and I grasped its fur, trying to push it away.I was actually wrestling(扭打)with the bear at this point. Then,as suddenly as it had begun, the fight ended. The bear moved back toward the forest, before returning for another attack-----The first time I felt panic.Apparently satisfied that we caused no further threat, the bear moved off, destroying a fence as it went. My arm was injured, but the outcome for us could hardly have been better.I’m proud that my family reminded clear-headed when panic could have led to a very different outcome.6.The brown bear approached the family in order to_______.A.catch shore birdsB.start an attackC.protect the childrenD.set up a barrier for itself7.The bear finally went away after it_______.A.felt safeB.got injuredC.found some foodD.took away the camera8.Why did the author fight against the brown bear instead of running away?A.Because the brown bear runs faster than menB.Because the brown bear was thin and smallC.Because the author thought he could win the battleD.Because the author had camera and tripod as arms9.The writer and his family survived mainly due to their______.A.prideB.patienceC.calmnessD.boldness10.What does the author want to say by telling us his story?A.The brown bear is easy to defeatB.The beach is very dangerous and do not play on beachC.Men are more powerful and intelligent than brown bearsD.Being clear-headed is very important when you are in dangerPassage threeQuestions11to15are based on the following passage:Researchers in the psychology department at the University of California at Los Angeles(UCLA)have discovered a major difference in the way men and women respond to stress. This difference may explain why men are more likely to suffer from stress-related disorders.Until now, psychological research has maintained that both men and women have the same "fight-or-flight"reaction to stress. In other words, individuals either react with aggressive behavior, such as verbal or physical conflict("fight"),or they react by withdrawing from the stressful situation("flight"). However, the UCLA research team found that men and women have quite different biological and behavioral responses to stress. While men often react to stress in the fight-or-flight response, women often have another kind of reaction which could be called"tend and befriend."That is,they often react to stressful conditions by protecting and nurturing their young("tend"),and by looking for social contact and support from others-especially other females('befriend").Scientists have long known that in the fight-or-flight reaction to stress,an important role is played by certain hormones released by the body. The UCLA research team suggests that the female tend-or-befriend response is also based on a hormone. This hormone, called oxytocin, has been studied in the context of Fuldbirt.h,but now it is being studied for its role in the response of both men and women to stress. The principal investigator,Dr.Shelley E.Taylor, explained that"animals and people with high levels of oxytocin are calmer, more relaxed, more social, and less anxious."While men also secrete(分泌)oxytocin, its effects are reduced by male hormones. In terms of everyday behavior, the UCLA study found that women are far.more likely than men to seek social contact when they are feeling stressed. They may phone relatives or friends,or ask directions if they are lost. The study also showed how fathers and mothers responded differently when they came home to their family after a stressful day at work. The typical father wanted to be left alone to enjoy some peace and quiet. For a typical mother, coping with a bad day at work meant focusing her attention on her children and their needs. The differences in responding to stress may explain the fact that women have lower frequency of stress-related disorders such as high blood pressure or aggressive behavior. The tend-and-befriend regulatory system may protect women against stress, and this may explain why women on average live longer than men.11.The UCLA study shows that in response to stress, men are more likely than women to.A.turn to friends for helpB.solve a conflict calmlyC.find an escape from realityD.seek comfort from children12.Which of the following is true about oxytocin according to the passage?A.Men have the same level of oxytocin as women do.B.Oxytocin used to be studied in both men and women.C.Both animals and people have high levels of oxytocin.D.Oxytocin has more of an effect on women than on men.13.Which group is more likely to have high blood pressure?A.MenB.WomenC.Not mentionedD.Both men and women14.What can be learned from the passage?A.Male hormones help build up the body's resistance to stress.B.In a family a mother cares more about children than a father does.C.Biological differences lead to different behavioral responses to stress.D.The UCLA study was designed to confirm previous research findings.15.Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?A.How men and women get over stressB.How men and women suffer from stressC.How researchers overcome stress problemsD.How researchers handle stress-related disorders Passage fourQuestions16to20are based on the following passage:This month,Germany’s transport minister,Alexander Dobrindt, proposed the first set of rules for autonomous vehicles(自主驾驶车辆).They would define the driver’s role in such cars and govern how such cars perform in crashes where lives might be lost. The proposal attempts to deal with what some call the“death valley”of autonomous vehicles:the grey area between semi-autonomous and fully driverless cars that could delay the driverless future.Dobrindt wants three things:that a car always chooses property damage over personal injury;that it never distinguishes between humans based on age or race;and that if a human removes his or her hands from the driving wheel—to check email, say—the car’s maker is responsible if there is a crash.“The change to the road traffic law will permit fully automatic driving,”says Dobrindt. It will put fully driverless cars on an equal legal footing to human drivers,he says.Who is responsible for the operation of such vehicles is not clear among car makers, consumers and lawyers.“The issue of legal responsibility is the biggest one of them all,”says Natasha Merat at the University of Leeds,UK.An assumption behind UK insurance for driverless cars, which was introduced earlier this year, insists that a human“be watchful and monitoring the road”at every moment. But that is not what many people have in mind when thinking of driverless cars.“When you say ‘driverless cars’,people expect driverless cars.”Merat says.“You know—no driver.”Because of the confusion,Merat thinks some car makers will wait until vehicles can be fully automated without operation.Driverless cars may end up being a form of public transport rather than vehicles you own, says Ryan Calo at Stanford University,California. That is happening in the UK and Singapore, where government-provided driverless vehicles are being launched. That would go down poorly in the US,however.“The idea that the government would take over driverless cars and treat them as a public good would get absolutely nowhere here,”says Calo.16.What does the phrase“death valley”in Paragraph2refer to?A.A place where cars often break down.B.A case where passing a law is impossible.C.An area where no driving is permitted.D.A situation where drivers’role is not clear.17.The proposal put forward by Dobrindt aims to__________.A.stop people from breaking traffic rulesB.help promote fully automatic drivingC.protect drivers of all ages and racesD.prevent serious property damage18.What do consumers think of the operation of driverless cars?A.It should get the attention of insurance companies.B.It should be the main concern of law makers.C.It should not cause deadly traffic accidents.D.It should involve no human responsibility.19.Driverless vehicles in public transport see no bright future in__________.A.SingaporeB.the UKC.the USD.Germany20.What could be the best title for passage?A.Autonomous Driving:Whose Liability?B.Fully Automatic Cars:A New BreakthroughC.Autonomous Vehicles:Driver Removed!D.Driverless Cars:Root of Road AccidentsFormat IIDirections:In the following passage, some sentences have been removed. For questions21-25,choose the most suitable one from the list A-G to fit into each of the numbered blanks. There are two extra choices, which do not fit into any of the gaps.Evaluating Sources of health InformationMaking good choices about your own health requires reasonable evaluation.A key first step in bettering your evaluation ability is to look carefully at your sources of healthy information.Reasonable evaluation includes knowing where and how to find relevant information, how to separate fact from opinions, how to recognize poor reasoning, and how to analyze information and the reliability of sources.21 Go to the original source.Media reports often simplify the results of medical research.Find out for yourself what a study really reported, and determine whether it was based on good science.Think about the type of study.22Watch for misleading language. Some studies will find that a behavior“contributes to”or is“associated with”an outcome;this does not mean that a certain course must lead to a certain result.23Carefully read or listen to information in order to fully understand it.Use your common sense. If a report seems too good to be true, probably it is.Be especially careful of information contained in advertisements.24Evaluate“scientific”statements carefully, and be aware of quackery(江湖骗术).25Friends and family members can be a great source of ideas and inspiration, but each of us needs to find a healthy lifestyle that works for us.Developing the ability to evaluate reasonably and independently about the health problems will serve you well throughout your life.A.Make choice that are right for you.B.The goal of an ad is to sell you something.C.Be sure to work through the critical questions.D.And examine the findings of the original research.E.Distinguish between research reports and public health advice.F.Be aware that information may also be incorrectly explained by an author’s point of view.G.The following suggestions can help you sort through the health information you receive from common sources.Section B(10marks:1mark for each item)Directions:In this section, there is a passage with ten blanks. You are required to select one word for each blank form a list of choices given in a word bank following the passage.Read the passage through carefully before making your choices. You may not use any of the words in the bank more than once. When I succeeded in becoming a part-time26of Nokia China last summer, many friends asked me how I survived the interview.I once asked myself the same questions. Many of my peers also27for the job, including some very competitive and intelligent students from famous universities. But why did the interviewer pick me instead of them?Finally,curiosity28me to ask the interviewers after we became colleagues. The answer was that I appeared confident but humble, responsible and communicative. They evaluated people29just on their academic certificates, but on the base of their qualities and abilities.I happened to be the right person. To be frank,I once felt30of being a student from an unknown college, and I think this may applyto some of you.I thought my future was ruined. It was only at the time of my successful interview that I finally understood the famous saying---“You decide where you go.”A wide range of skills is important these days.I used to work for Master Kong.My job was to cook instant noodles for customers.I had regarded it as a piece of cake, but I failed constantly.I had to cook the noodles for the right amount of time to make them taste good. Moreover, the noodles could only remain in a plastic cup of five minutes,or the taste would be31.This experience taught me never to look down on anything, and always remain humble.I also worked as a volunteer for a beach volleyball event. My job was to32foreign visitors experience the beach.I thought it would be very easy because my oral English was33good.But when I went to talk with a group of foreign guests,I suddenly realized that I did not know a single beach volleyball term.I was embarrassed. After this,I read brochures in both Chinese and English every day to learn the terms for facilities and related words. This allowed me to deliver accurate words to foreigners, and I was happy to work34.After these experience,I’m more confident and I strongly believe that my fate is in my hands. It has certainly helped me make a giant step closer to my dream of graduating with prospects for the future.I hope my advice will benefit you35well.A.asB.notC.helpD.pushedE.prettyF.looksG.ashamed H.applied I.ruined J.responsibly It begins with a section called“All About Ashley,”where Ashley tells readers what it is like to be the boss of a company when you are only sixteen.“I was so happy. But it was crazy in a lot of ways.I got very stressed.I mean,I was only sixteen—I didn’t even have a car!If you were sixteen and you had your own company, you’d be stressed, too!“In an interview Ashley gave advice to teenagers who wanted to start their own business,“Just be strong and have your dreams and work hard at them. And don’t listen when_______,because I heard‘no’a lot. Just keep going until you hear‘yes’!”56.For what purpose did Ashley create GooseHead?57.According to paragraph3,what did Ashley do after GooseHead was closed down?58.What is the title of first chapter in the book The Goosehead Guide to Life?59.How did Ashley feel as a young boss of a company?60.Fill in the blank in Paragraph4with proper words.Part III Translation(30marks,30minutes)Section A From Chinese to English(15marks:3marks for each item)Directions:Complete the sentences by translating into English the Chinese given in the brackets.61.(他所说的话)made me very angry.62.Somehow my parents look at me angrily(好像我犯了错一样).63.Teamwork means that we should(与对方合作).64.He imagines that one day he may take part in(开发人工智能).65.He didn’t come back(他直到去年十一月才回来).Section B From English to Chinese(15marks:3marks for each item)Directions:Translate into Chinese the underlined sentences in the following passage.Fifteen years ago,I took a summer vacation in Lecce in southern Italy. After climbing up a hill for a panoramic view of the blue sea, white buildings and green olive trees,I paused to catch my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.66.Unfortunately,just as I took out my camera,a woman approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of me.Like me,this woman was here to stop, sigh and appreciate the view.Patient as I was, after about15minutes,my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the shot I would eventually take,I grew frustrated. Was it too much to ask her to move so I could take just one picture of the landscape?67.Sure,I could have required her to leave for a few minutes. She seemed so content in her observation.I didn’t want to mess with that.68.Another15minutes passed and I grew a little bored. The woman was still there.I decided to take the photo anyway. And now when I look at it,I think her presence in the photo is what makes the image interesting. The landscape, beautiful on its own, somehow comes to life and breathes because this woman is engaging with it.This photo, with the unique beauty that unfolded before me and that woman who“ruined”it,now hangs on a wall in my bedroom. What would she think if she knew that her figure is captured and frozen on some stranger’s bedroom wall?69.A bedroom, after all,is a very private space,in which some woman I don’t even know has been immortalized.70.She lives in my house to some extent.Perhaps we all live in each others’spaces.Perhaps this is what photos are for:to remind us that we all appreciate beauty, that we all share a common desire for pleasure, for connection, for something that is greater than us.That photo is a reminder,a captured moment,an unspoken conversation between two women, separated only by a thin square of glass.Part IV Writing(30marks,30minutes)Directions:For this part, you are allowed30minutes to write a composition. You should write about120 words following the Chinese outline given below.1.外卖(takeout food)已非常普遍。

第一部分:阅读理解(共20小题,每小题2分,满分40分)阅读下列材料,从每小题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和D)中,选出最佳选项。

A Karen Christiansen in Madison, Wisconsin, is licking stamps and addressing envelopes. Soon she and her fiance will be sending out invitations to their wedding. Meanwhile, Wei Yashung is at the hairdresser’s in Shanghai, China. She knows she will have a long wait. It’s May 18,the most popular day to get married in China. The room is filled with brides preparing for their special day. “Everyone feels very emotional at this time. There are a lot of rituals and superstitions(迷信)at the wedding, ”says Maxine Rowe, an anthropologist. Karen’s aunt and sisters help her check off the things she needs according to old customs. They recite the traditional verse, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.”Friends and relatives gather around and contribute grandmother’s locket(纪念品盒),a cousin’s wedding veil, or a blue garter to prepare for the ceremony. Many wedding traditions in western cultures began long ago and were designed to protect the couple from ad luck.“The wedding veil is a Greek custom intended to hide the bride from evil spirits,” says Maxine.“The Romans contributed the custom of bridesmaids to confuse the spirits. Wedding bouquets had strong-smelling herbs to scare witches and devils.” In China, thousands of couples choose May 18 fo r heir wedding day.“In the past, people consulted an almanac(历书)to find lucky days,” explains Maxine.“But in modern times a new tradition is being formed.”May 18 sounds very close in Chinese to “wo yao fa,” or “I will get rich.”It is considered a good omen to get married on this day. Some people don’t think it’s a good idea for everyone to get married on the same day.“It’s silly and superstitious,” one reporter wrote. But hairdressers, florist, and owners of restaurants say it’s the best day. They can raise their prices and their services are fully booked. Maybe they are the ones who should be saying, “I will get rich.”1.The overall structure of this passage can be called______.[A]comparison and contrast [B] description of events in order of time[C] details leading to conclusion[D] generalization followed by detail2.An anthropologist in Paragraph 2 probably studies______.[A]hairstyles [B] Jewels [C] Almanac [D]customs3.Why do Karen’s friends and relatives contribute a cousin’s wedding veil?[A]Because it is something old. [B] Because it is something new[B]Because it is something borrowed[D] Because it is something blue.4.The word “omen” in Paragraph 5 probably means______.[A]a sign of star [B] a sign of present [C] a sign of past [D] a sign of future5.What’s the writer’s tone in the last sentence “Maybe they are the ones who should be saying, ‘I will get rich.’”?[A]Humorous. [B] Tolerant. [C] Matter-of-fact. [D] Furious. The easiest and least complicated way to motivate somebody is quite simply to pay them attention. What you say is not particularly important, nor necessarily is how long you spend saying it, as long as it’s something.“Nice weather” or “How are you? ”will d o. People just love attention, adults and children. Children love attention so much that they will do anything to get some. In fact, if children are not getting enough attention, they would rather be naughty and get told off than be“good”and be ignores. An interesting time in most households with young children is dinnertime—it’s the end of the day, everybody is tired, the house is in a mess and Johnny doesn’t like carrots and is refusing to eat his food. Again, the easy trap to fall into is to start getting cross with Johnny and getting into a big argument about his food.Again, he’s getting the attention he desires;even if it’s not the best sort of attention, it’s betterthan nothing. It’s fascinating if you’re able to stand back from the situation and ins tead focus attention and praise on Johnny’s brother who is eating his food—after all, he’s the one that is doing what you want him to do. After five or ten minutes or so of being ignores and deprivedof the attention, it’s amazing how quickly(usually)Johnn y sees sense and obeys. I’vewatched my own children in this situation go from screaming from behind the sofa that they won’t eat their food, to sheepishly crawling to the table saying that maybe they’ll have a little bit, to sitting in their chair wolfing the lot and saying, “Mummy, aren’t I doing good dinner eating? ”—all without having one word spoken to them by their parents, who are busily paying attention to their brothers. This fundamental need for attention, and doing whatever it takes to get it, do esn’t disappear when we turn into adults. Sure, there are people who are“real attention seekers” in a loud and extravert(外向的)way, and there are the shy, retiringtypes who don’t want attention in such a“sociable”way. But everybody still wants to be recognized and seen as worthwhile.6.What will children probably do to get parents’ attention?[A]They will keep quiet for a long time[B] They will ignore their parents.[B]They will behave naughtily[D] They will get cross easily.7.What does the phrase “the easy trap to fall into” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?[A]A set-up situation parents are likely to go into. [B] The household work parents can not avoid. [C] Some tempting food children love to eat[D] A bad habit children easily develop.8.An effective way to make children behave themselves may be to_____.[A]scold them severely [B] teach them what to do[B]give them total freedom [D] praise their sisters or brother9.“Real attention seekers”in the last paragraph are probably those who_____.[A]motivate others to learn [B] associate with shy types[B]rely on negative attention [D] arouse others’ attention openl y10.What point does the author make by relating to children’ s behavior?[A]Children’ s upbringing needs parents’ constant care.[B]Children are usually extravert while adults are sociable.[C]Both adults and children need to be seen as worthwhile.[D]The motivation of children differs greatly from that of adults.Named for the dense shade of their thick pines, the Black Hills of South Dakota have for centuries been considered holy by the Lakota Sioux, once the most powerful tribe in the West. Today, because of the passions of a few artists, the land itself has become holy in another way. It took the obsessed sculptor Gutzon Borglum, his son Lincoln, and four hundredworkers fourteen years (1927-1941)to complete an artistic and engineering project somonumental that no one believed it possible: carving and blasting the six-story faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln out of stony Mount Rushmore. A little trivia: Washington’s eyes are 11 feet wide, and his nose is 26 feetlong. Mr. Lincoln, for his part, sports a mole(痣)that measures 16 inches across.Just 17miles away, the gigantic Crazy Horse Memorial is slowly taking shape. Also carved intogranite(花岗岩),this memorial, when completed somewhere around 2050,after a century’s labor, will depict(刻画)Native America’s greatest warriors chief on his horse, dwarfing Mount Rushmore at 563 feet tall. The horse’s nostril(鼻孔)alone will be large enough tohold a five-room house. From Crazy Horse, head east on the beautiful 14-miles Needles Highway, past billion-year-old granite hills, to Sylvan Lake and then north to Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, whose landscape you’ll easily recognize as the backdrops used in the film Dances with Wolves. Alternatively, you can park your bags in the pleasant Game Lodge that served as Calvin Coolidge’s Summer White House. Of the historic inn’s seven rooms, you can still book the room the thirtieth president and his wife occupied during the three months in 1972. The lodge is one of three found within Custer State Park, whose 18-miles Wildlife Loop Road runs through unfenced meadows where herds of 1,500 buffalo roam.11.The word“sports”in Paragrap h 2 most probably means_____.[A]is famous for [B] is characterized by [C] is decorated with [D] is accompanied by12.Of the four things mentioned in the passage, which one is the largest?[A]Washington’s eyes. [B] Teddy Roosevelt. [C] Abraham Lincoln. [D] Calvin CoolidgeDWomen are more efficient and trustworthy, have a better understanding of their workforce and are more generous with their praise. In short they make the best managers, and if men are to keep up they will have to start learning from their female counterparts, a report claimstoday. The survey of 1,000 male and female middle and senior managers from across the UKis an indictment(谴责)of the ability of men to function as leaders in the modern workplace.A majority of those questioned believed women had a more modern outlook on their profession and were more open—minded and considerate. By way of contrast, a similar number believe male managers are selfcentered and more likely to steal credit for work done by others. Management Today magazine, which conducted the research, said that after years of having to adopt a masculine identity and hide their emotions and natural behavior in the workplace, women have become role models for managers. The findings tally with a survey of female bosses carried out in the US. A five-year study of 2,500 managers from 450 firms found that many male bosses were rated by their staff of both sexes to be self-centered andautocratic(独裁的). Women on the other hand leave men in the starting blocks when itcomes to teamwork and communicating with staff. In Britain more than 61% of those surveyed said men did not make better bosses than women. Female managers use time moreeffectively, with many of those surveyed commenting that juggling(兼顾的)commitmentsis a familiar practice for women with a job and a family. Female managers also appear to make good financial sense for penny-pinching companies: most people,of either sex, would rather ask for a rise from a man.16.What is the source of the data mentioned in the passage?[A] A magazine. [B] A newspaper.[C] A government white paper. [D] A university journal.17.According to the passage, male managers tend to_______.[A] be more selfless in teamwork [B] ask more questions when surveyed[C] be considerate leaders in a company [D] claim the contribution made by their colleagues18.What can be found after comparing the findings in the UK and in the US?[A] The findings are irrelevant. [B] The findings are contradictory.[C] The findings match each other. [D] The findings are not significant.19.What does the phrase“penny-pinching companies”in Paragraph 7 probably mean?[A] Companies that lack money. [B] Companies that are very generous[C] Companies that earn a lot of money. [D] Companies that are unwilling to spend money.20.What is the main idea of the passage?[A] Men are better managers than women.[B] Women are better managers than men[C] Male managers are more willing to learn[D] Men leaders and women leaders have different advantages.第二部分:七选五阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)文中有5个空格,每个空格为一题,要求考生根据文章的意思从所提供的7个选项中选出最合适的5个,分别填入空格处,其余2项为多余选项。

Several cities have already enacted such soda taxes to raise money and fight obesity(肥胖).And there’s new evidence suggesting that these taxes do work—although sometimes not as well as hoped.Kris Madsen,an associate professor of public health at the University of California,Berkeley,is one of the researchers who has been studying soda taxes,in part because she’s convinced that sugary drinks are a threat to society,a direct cause of obesity.“It’s a pretty high bar for public health to be able to say that something is causing a major epidemic,”she says.“We can do that for sugar-sweetened beverages(饮料).”Berkeley was the first U.S.city to tax those drinks, making them more expensive, and Madsen is leading a team of researchers that’s trying to see how the tax is working.“We’ve been going out to the same neighborhoods every year for the last five years, andwe’ve been asking people the same questions,”she says.Researchers interview people on the street, primarily in low-income neighborhoods. They started doing this before the soda tax went into effect four years ago,and they’ve continued every year since.“We saw a52percent decline in consumption over the first three years”since the tax went into effect, she says,“this has a huge impact.”Madsen’s study was published online this week by The American Journal of Public Health.Mexico,in fact, put in place a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages in2014.That tax is smaller than the soda taxes in theU.S.,and its effect on consumption also has been smaller.According to one study, consumption of sugary drinks fell on average by about8percent as a result of the tax.6.A statewide tax on sugary drinks was placed in____this week.A.CaliforniaB.ConnecticutC.BerkeleyD.Mexico7.What is one of the reasons why the government put a tax on sugar-sweetened drinks?A.To collect money.B.To help poor people.C.To cut the consumption of alcohol.D.To support research on public health.8.We can infer from the passage that Kris Madsen believes that____.A.soda taxes cause inflationB.soda taxes are harmful to societyC.rich people don’t drink sugar-sweetened beveragesD.sugar-sweetened drinks are harmful to public health9.The tax on sugar-sweetened drinks is less effective in Mexico than in the U.S.because___.A.it’s enforced earlierB.its tax rate is lowerC.Mexicans drink tea sodasD.Mexico is a small country10.What is the theme of this passage?A.The effect of soda taxes.B.The harm of sugary drinks.C.The greed of the government.D.The life of a university teacher.Passage ThreeQuestions11to15are based on the following passage.F ABIO SCHV ARTSMAN,a well-respected businessman, may now be the most detested man in Brazil. As chief executive of Vale,a giant miner and the world’s largest producer of iron ore,it was Mr Schvartsman who had to face the public after the collapse of a company tailings dam in the town of Brumadinho on January25th.186people are now confirmed asdead,with122still missing. So it was not a shock when,on March2nd,Vale said that Mr Schvartsman would step down. Tailings dams contain tonnes of waste material from mining operations. The design used at Brumadinho was known to be the least expensive and most risky. After a flood of waste burst fromthe Brumadinbo dam, ripping through a perilously located staff canteen and submerging a valley in mud,the company tried to respond quickly. Its board suspended share buybacks, dividends and bonuses for executives. It has made paymentsof100,000reais($26,000)to266families.Eduardo de Salles Bartolomeo,a Vale veteran, has been named interim chief executive. He faces mounting problems.A crucial question is if Mr Schvartsman or other executives knew about problems with the dam.The firm maintains that they didn’t.Procurator declare that Vale make a secret deal to hide that the dam is in danger.Despite all these difficulties the firm may prove resilient. That is partly because of Mr Schvartsman’s changes since he took over,in May2017.He reduced Vale’s debt and cut capital spending, notes Carlos De Alba of Morgan Stanley. With healthy free cashflow and low debt, Vale’s balance sheet can probably withstand even hefty government fines. The fundamentals in metals markets are also helping. In the2020s,demand is expected to rise for iron ore in emerging markets and fornickel(another of Vale’s key commodities)in electric cars. That increases the odds of Vale surviving the disaster, even as victims remain missing, buried in mud.11.What does the underlined word“detest”in paragraph1mean?A.Ignore.B.Adore.C.HateD.Respect.12.Why was it Fabio Schvartsman who had to face the public after the disaster?A.Because Vale is a giant miner.B.Because he was the chief executive.C.Because he used to be well-respected.D.Because the accident killed many people.13.What is the biggest problem that Eduardo deSalles Bartolomeo faces after he has been appointed interim chief executive?A.The dismissal of Mr Schvartsman.B.Legal charges against the executive.C.The suspension of benefits for executive.D.Payments of100,000raise to266families.14.What may help Vale survive the disaster?A.Increasing Vale’s debt.B.Heavy fines from government.C.Putting Mr Schvartsman in jail.D.Rising demand for Vale’s commodities.15.Why did the company’s tailings dam in Brumadinho collapse?A.Because Mr Schvartsman cut Vale’s capital spending in May2017.B.Because there were tonnes of waste material from mining operations.C.Because the design of the dam was the least expensive and most risky.D.Because the executives of the company knew the risk of a dam breachPassage FourQuestions16to20are based on the following passage:Most people don't think about backing up their computer until they experience the dread of a hard drive crash. It's only then that the sad reality of a life’s worth of photos, music, spreadsheets, contacts, and other files disappearing in an instant truly sinks in.Denis Gorbachev of Cloudberry Lab recommends the“3-2-1backup strategy in which you keep three copies of each important file:two of them an different external hard drives, stored in different locations, and one in the cloud.”Here'a real-life example of how often you need to back up your computer from Jimmy,a wedding photographer at Pixelicious. He uses the3-2-1strategy to ensure his client’s special memories are both in the cloud and on external hard drives so that they never get lost.“Before leaving a wedding reception,I immediately pull one of the two memory cards from my camera store it in my wallet.A backup of the images will[literally]follow me wherever I go!”says Jimmy.“Then,as soon as I get home,a copy of the files will be transferred to my desktop so that before the sun rises again,I already have thee copies of my client's images.”After editing, copies of the final images are immediately uploaded onto his cloud storage, while duplicate sets are transferred to external hard drives, one of which is stored in a bank’s safety deposit box.Having multiple backups provides peace of mind.Your first computer back up may be a tedious(冗长乏味的)affair as all of your downloaded music, photos, and files get copied onto external hard drives and up to a cloud. But,that initial time and effort will save you from the dread of losing it all in a crash. From there, the ongoing back up process will become streamlined as additional files get copied to drives and backed up through automated methods.16.According to the"3-2-1backup Strategy",we need to keep altogether______copies of our important files.A.1B.2C.3D.617.What do we know about Jimmy?A.He is a photographer.B.He is a wedding planner.C.He is one of Denis’friends.D.He works for Cloudberry Lab.18.Where does Jimmy keep his clients images after editing them?A.In the memory cards of his camera.B.In the memory cards in his wallet.C.In his desktop computer.D.In his cloud storage.19.What might people feel when they back up their files for the first time?A.Peaceful.B.Fearful.C.Bored.D.Confident.20.What can we infer from the passage?A.Hard drives crash frequently.B.Few people back up their computers regularly.C.The cloud is an unsafe place for your important files.D.Internal hard drives are safer than external hard drives.FormatⅡDirections:In the following passage, some sentences have been removed. For questions21—25, choose the most suitable one from the list A—G to fit into each of the numbered blanks. There are two extra choices, which do not fit into any of the gaps. You should decide on the best choice andblacken the corresponding letter on The Answer Sheet.(10marks)We think of winter as cold and flu season, but the chilly temperatures have powerful biological upsides too. Here are some ways cold weather helps your body.21.______.Colder temperatures can help you think more clearly.Studies have found that people perform some cognitive tasks better when the temperature is colder.Research has also shown that people are less inclined to tackle complex tasks in summer than in winter. The brain requires glucose(葡萄糖)to function, but the body uses more of it in warmer temperatures to keep the body cool. That leaves less available fuel for reasoning and recall tasks.22.______.We know accumulating too much ordinary fat can endanger our health. But adults also have small amounts ofbeneficial“brown”fat that can help burn more calories—and cold temperatures can activate this brown fat.One study showed that participants who lowered their body temperatures simply by placing one foot in cold water did increase their brown fat cells.23.______.If spring and summer make you sneeze, winter might be your new favorite season.Pollen(花粉)counts are virtually nonexistent in cold weather.Indoor allergies, however, can be worst during the winter. To ease indoor allergies, use a dehumidifier(减湿器)to maintain the humidity at home below50percent.24.______.You body’s core temperature drops when you’re trying to sleep. This process can take up to two hours in summer, but it’s much faster in winter.Plus, with darker mornings, you naturally sleep later.25.______.Yes,you might get more colds during the winter. However, studies have shown that the immune system can be activated by colder temperatures, which enhances our ability to fight infections. That said, the flu virus thrives in cold, dry air,and time spent indoors increases your chance of infection. To reduce risk, get your annual flu shot, wash your hands frequently, and go outside.A.Eases allergiesB.Kills flu virusesC.Fights infections/doc/d7e39f566aec0975f46527d3240c844768eaa034.html es less glucoseE.Boosts your brainF.Activates healthy fatG.Encourages better sleepSection B Banked Cloze(每⼩题1分,共10分)Directions:In this section, there is a passage with ten blanks. You are required to select one word for each blank from a list of choices given in a word bank following the passage.Read the passage through carefully before making your choices. Please blacken the corresponding letter for each item on The Answer Sheet. You may not use any of the words in the bank more than once.(10marks)Until Friday,I’d never been to the Strong National Museum of Play, and I am a senior.I went for College Night, which is composed26college students to enjoy. As I walked to the museum I wondered27I was doing this. That changed when I got 28—just circling around the perimeter(周边)revealed a picturesque scene. The line at the entrance was daunting, thanks to the discount for students29college IDs.
