What’s your feeling when you see butterflies dancing slowly and lightly in the wind? Whether you love researching the outdoors or watching far away, getting close to nature can keep your mind away from your worries and make you feel relaxed. What is nature?Nature means the world around us that is not man-made, including birds, mountains, trees, the sea and the stars. It’s a force and can control things like weather. We can find nature wherever we are and wherever we go—beaches, gardens, parks, rivers, and even unexpected places like cracks(裂缝) in the stones. Why does nature make us feel good?Spending time in nature makes our lives peaceful, joyful and wonderful. It takes us outdoors, gets us active and lets us care more about the environment. Even a little gift of nature can make us feel free and hopeful, such as breathing in fresh air, listening to the wind in the trees or standing at a mountain. Ralphie, who is 10, likes being close to nature on a bike with his family. He says, “It makes us feel happy and takes our mind off things because we have to pay attention. We are away from traffic and we hear more birdsong and see more wild animals.”How can we feel closer to nature?Feeling closer to nature is easy. We can build a connection with nature wherever we are using our senses. Try listening closely to birdsong, smelling flowers and feeling sand between our fingers. Paint a picture and take photos of the natural places that we like best. They may help us feel closer to the natural world. It’s important to try and connect with nature, notice its beauty and how it makes us feel.“Ladies, don’t let anyone ever tell you you’re past your prime(黄金期),” said 60-year-old Michelle Yeoh at the Academy Awards ceremony(奥斯卡颁奖礼) as she received her Best Actress Award.①_________ March 12 local time, the Malaysian-born actress made history by becoming the first Asian woman ②_________ (win) this Oscar award. 三个愿望(英文作文)

三个愿望(英文作文)

Title: Three Wishes: A Journey of the HeartThe Legend of the Wishing StarIn a world where magic still whispered through the night breeze, there existed an ancient legend. It spoke of a star that, once every century, descended from the heavens to grant three wishes to a pure heart. The wishes could change the course of lives, rewrite destinies, and sometimes, teach the deepest lessons about what truly matters. The First Wish: AdventureFor young Lily, the first wish was easy. She yearned for adventure, for tales that would make her grandmother's eyes sparkle with pride. In her mind, she saw herself sailing across uncharted oceans, scaling the tallest mountains, and meeting creatures from myths and legends. Her wish was granted, and overnight, she found herself aboard a ship bound for the unknown. She battled storms, outwitted pirates, and discovered lands that history had forgotten. But as the months turned to years, Lily realized that while adventures filled her days with excitement, they left her nights empty. She missed home, the comfort of familiar faces, and the warmth of a place she belonged. The Second Wish: SuccessReturning home, Lily made her second wish. She desired success, not just any success, but the kind that would echo through generations. She wished for wealth, fame, and the ability to leave a mark on the world. Her wish was granted, and she became a renowned scientist, her discoveries changing the face of medicine. Awards lined her shelves, her name was in every newspaper, and she was invited to speak at prestigious gatherings around the globe. Yet, amidst all her achievements, Lily felt a gnawing emptiness. She realized that success without purpose or connection was hollow, a shiny facade that masked the loneliness within. The Third Wish: LoveWith her final wish, Lily paused. She reflected on her journey, on the highs and lows, the moments of exhilaration and the depths of solitude. She understood now that true fulfillment lay not in external pursuits but in the bonds we forge and nurture. So, she wished for love. Not just romantic love, but the love that encompasses family, friendship, and community. Her wish was granted, and she found herself surrounded by people who cared for her deeply, who supported her dreams and celebrated her successes. She learned that love was not something you sought but something you cultivated, a garden that thrives when tended with care. The Lesson LearnedLily's journey taught her that life's richness lies not in the accumulation of experiences or accolades but in the depth of our connections and the love we share. Her three wishes, each granted with the best intentions, led her down paths that ultimately revealed the true essence of happiness. She learned that adventure, success, and love are not mutually exclusive but interwoven threads that create the tapestry of a fulfilling life. And so, she lived, cherishing every thread, every moment, grateful for the wisdom gained and the love that filled her heart.ConclusionIn the end, the legend of the wishing star proved true, not in the granting of wishes but in the lessons they imparted. Lily's story reminds us that the most precious gifts are often the ones we least expect, and that true happiness is found in the simplest, most heartfelt connections. For in the vastness of the universe, it is the love we give and receive that truly makes us rich.。

2023-2024学年全国全部人教版高考专题英语高考真卷1.阅读理解第1题.Lightning is a powerful force of nature. In fact, a lightning strike carries millions of volts(伏特)of electricity. Scientists say a bolt of lightning strikes somewhere on Earth every second. That is a lot of energy!Think how wonderful it would be if we could capture lightning and sell it in a bottle. Sadly, that is not something you or I can do, at least not yet.The phrase "to catch lighting in a bottle" means capturing something powerful or difficult. Then you are able to control it and perhaps show it to the world. This is where the "bottle" part is important. We can also use "to catch lightning in a bottle" to describe an extremely difficult or unlikely success. In the world of sports, players and teams have also been known for catching lightning in a bottle. Anything physical that is "lightning in a bottle" can be described as a rare achievement. Climbing the top of Mount Everest is considered a rare achievement of endurance(忍耐力).Language experts do not know exactly where this expression comes from. Some say it may have started with Benjamin Franklin—the American diplomat, businessman and inventor. Benjamin Franklin is known for a scientific experiment involving electricity and lightning. As the story goes, Franklin once flew a kite in a lightning storm. He had hoped that lightning would strike thekite as it flew high in the sky. He thought the electricity would travel down the string to a metal key at the bottom. Then the plan was to catch the electricity in a glass jar, but that didn't happen. However, it did lead to the invention of the lightning rod and the understanding of positive and negative charges. So, you can't catch real lightning in a bottle. But hopefully, during your life time you'll have the experience of catching a little of your own lightning in a bottle.(1)How does the author start the passage?A: By comparing different views.B: By giving an example.C: By presenting some facts.D: By stating his own experience.(2)The reason why Benjamin Franklin did the scientific experiment was that he aimed to ________.A: catch the electricityB: fly a kite in a lightning stormC: invent the lightning rodD: understand positive and negative charges(3)Which kind of magazine is this passage probably from?A: Entertainment.B: Language.C: Science.D: Sports.【答案】CAB【解答】(1)C 细节理解题。

This was it – the regional high school poetry slam I had been preparing for all year.I peeked through the thick velvet curtain to get a glimpse of the crowd. Row upon row of seats were filled with students, teachers, parents, and literary enthusiasts. I could make out a few familiar faces – my best friend Jada gave me a double thumbs-up, and my English teacher Mr. Daniels smiled warmly in my direction.Just then, the auditorium lights dimmed, and the emcee strode onto the stage, tapping the microphone. "Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the 25th Annual Riverview High Poetry Slam!" She paused as the audience erupted into applause."We've got an incredible lineup of talented poets for you today, so get ready to be blown away!"The first poet, a lanky boy with glasses, stepped up to the mic. He unfurled a piece of paper and began reciting his poem in a clear, confident voice. I was impressed by his passion and the vivid imagery he painted with his words. When he finished, the crowd went wild, giving him a standing ovation.Act after act took the stage, each one more captivating than the last. A girl with bright pink hair delivered a powerful slam poem about body positivity that had the whole room cheering. A soft-spoken boy shared a hauntingly beautiful ode to his late grandfather that didn't leave a dry eye in the house. Finally, it was my turn. I smoothed down my blouse, took a deep breath, and walked out to thunderous applause. The bright stage lights were blinding, but I could still make out Jada's beaming face in the front row. I gave her a little wave, then turned to address the audience."Hello, everyone," I began, my voice slightly trembling with nerves. "My name is Maya, and I'll be reciting a poem by Mary Oliver called 'The Summer Day.'" I looked down at the pages in my hand, filled with Oliver's looping handwritten words that I had pored over countless times. The first few lines came out shakily, but as I fell into the rhythm of the poem, my confidence grew. "I don't know exactly what a prayer is./I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down/into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass..." Oliver's words flowed like honey from my lips, painting a picture of life's small wonders – the whirring of a grasshopper's wings, the faint scent of vegetable gardens at dusk. When I reached the final stanza, I locked eyes with the audience, letting the weight of the words wash over them: "Tell me, what is it you plan to do /with your one wild and precious life?"You could have heard a pin drop in that silent, spellbound auditorium. Then, like a tidal wave, the thunderous applause and cheers crashed over me. I grinned from ear to ear as people rose to their feet, giving me a standing ovation. In that moment, I had never felt more alive. The rest of the slam passed by in a joyful blur. I floated through the crowd of well-wishers, receiving congratulations and praise. Even the other poets came up to tell me how much they loved my recitation. At the end of the night, the judges took the stage to announce the winners. Third place...second place...and finally, itwas down to me and the pink-haired slam poet. "And this year's first place winner of the Riverview Poetry Slam is..."My heart pounded in my ears. I clasped Jada's hand tightly, silently reciting a prayer."...Maya Rodriguez!"I let out a squeal of delight and hugged Jada fiercely. Mr. Daniels and my parents enveloped me in a big group hug, tears of pride and joy shining in their eyes. As I accepted the first place trophy, grinning from ear to ear, I knew this was a night I would never forget. That poetry slam had lit a fire within me – a passion for words and self-expression that would burn for the rest of my life. In the years ahead, I would go on to write and perform my own original poetry. I would join my high school's literary magazine and debate club. I would enter and win more slams, rubbing shoulders with renowned poets and cementing my place in the local literary scene. But that night at the Riverview slam would always hold a special place in my heart, for it was the night I truly discovered my voice and the power of the written word. As Mary Oliver's poem reminds us, we each have one precious, fleeting life – and Iknew that mine would be devoted to poetry, to artfully spinning words into something beautiful and true.篇2Poetry Recitation Contest? More Like Poetry Perspiration Contest!Hey there! Ariel here, and let me tell you about this crazy poetry recitation contest I got roped into at school. At first, I was like, "Poetry? Ugh, how boring!" But trust me, by the end of this whole experience, I had a totally new respect for the art of poetry and public speaking. It all started when my English teacher, Mrs. Robinson, announced the annual high school poetry recitation contest. The winner would get a snazzy trophy and the chance to represent our school at some big regional competition. Mrs. Robinson has this way of giving you puppy dog eyes that makes it impossible to say no, so next thing I knew, my hand was raised to sign up.The first big challenge was picking out a poem to recite. Mrs. Robinson said we could choose any published poem, from Shakespeare all the way up to modern stuff. Well, let me tell you, after browsing poetry books and websites for hours, it all start tosound like gibberish! Metaphors this, imagery that, I was ready to pull my hair out. Finally, I settled on a poem called "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. I liked how it sounded all deep and meaningful about taking the path less traveled, which is kind of my vibe. Little did I know just how meaningful those words would become...The next hurdle was actually memorizing and practicing my poem. Oof, you wouldn't believe how many times I messed up the lines or got tongue-tied. Reciting poetry out loud is no joke! There's all these weird pauses and emphases you have to get right. On top of that, there was working on things like projection, diction, and stage presence. My drama club friends were all giving me hot tips, like "Imagine you're speaking to someone in the very back row!" and "Don't lock your knees or you'll pass out!" It was overwhelming, to say the least. But I kept practicing day after day, reciting that poem to my dog, my mirror, my long-suffering parents. Slowly but surely, I started feeling more confident and comfortable with the words and movements. Then finally, the night of the contest arrived. Backstage, I was a sweaty mess! My palms were clammy, my mouth was dry, and I kept going over those lines in my head, desperately trying not to forget anything. When they called my name, I sucked in a deep breath and stepped out onto that brightly lit stage. The spotlights were blinding and there was a huge audience out there, but I tuned everything out and focused. This was my moment. As I launched into the first lines of "The Road Not Taken," I could feel my nerves melting away. The words just started flowing, like I was reciting them for an audience of one in my living room. I hit all the right pauses, inflections, everything. By the time I got to the end and delivered that iconic line "I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference," I knew I had nailed it.The applause after I finished was deafening! I hadn't realized how captivated the audience was. In that moment, I really got what poetry was all about - using words to spark emotions and connect with people's hearts and minds.Long story short, I ended up winning the whole dang contest! When they called my name, I just about passed out fromexcitement and disbelief. All those hours and hours of hard work had paid off in the most amazing way.At the awards ceremony, I had to give a little speech, so I quoted the final lines of my poem again. I talked about how reciting those words had pushed me out of my comfort zone and down a challenging "road not taken." But by persevering, I discovered new confidence, poise, and a deeper appreciation for the power of language. Now, I'm hard at work practicing for the regional competition, and you'd better believe I'm bringing my A-game. Whatever happens from here, this poetry recitation stuff has been a total game-changer for me. These days, you can't shut me up about the magic of poetry! So that's my crazy story of blood, sweat, and iambic pentameter. If you ever get a chance to take part in something like this, I highly recommend going for it. You might surprise yourself by discovering talents you never knew you had. Just don't forget to hydrate - that stage can get crazy hot when the pressure's on! Okay, gotta run, but I'll leave you with one last piece of poetic wisdom:"Poetry is the scholar's art of wording heavenly material with rebuilding skill and fire-breathing thought." Now don't you forget it!篇3The Poetry Recital Contest: A Journey of Words and WonderHi there, my name is Emily, and I'm a high school student who recently had the most amazing experience at our school's annual poetry recitation contest. Poetry has always been a passion of mine, but this event truly took my love for the art form to new heights. Let me tell you all about it!It all started a few months ago when our English teacher, Mrs. Robinson, announced the upcoming poetry contest. She encouraged us all to participate, saying it would be a fantastic opportunity to explore the beauty of language and express ourselves through the power of words. At first, I was a bit hesitant. Standing up in front of a crowd and reciting poetry? That sounded terrifying! But Mrs. Robinson's enthusiasm was contagious, and before I knew it, I found myself researching poems and practicing in front of the mirror. After weeks of preparation, the big day finally arrived. The school auditorium was buzzing with excitement as students, teachers, and parents gathered for the event. I could feel my heart racing as I waited backstage, clutching my carefully chosen poem like a lifeline. But as soon as I stepped onto that stage, something magical happened. The bright lights, the sea of faces, all melted away as I lost myself in the rhythm and flow of the words. My poem, "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, came alive as I recited each line, painting vivid images of a traveler's journey through life's choices. It was as if the words were dancing off my tongue, weaving a tapestry of emotion and meaning. When I finished, the thunderous applause took me by surprise. I had done it! I had shared a piece of myself with the world, and they had embraced it wholeheartedly. That feeling of accomplishment was unlike anything I had ever experienced before. But the true magic of the poetry recital contest wasn't just in the performances themselves; it was in the connection we all felt to the words we shared. As I listened to my classmates recite their chosen poems, I was transported to different worlds, different emotions, different perspectives. It was a celebration of diversity, creativity, and the boundless power of language. One of my favorite performances was by my friend, Jason, who recited Maya Angelou's powerful poem, "Phenomenal Woman." His delivery was so raw and honest, capturing the essence of female strength and resilience. I could see the impact it had on the audience, especially the young girls in the crowd, who sat a little taller and beamed with pride. Then there was Sarah, who brought tears to everyone's eyes with her heart-wrenching recitation of "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe. Her haunting voice and dramatic flair truly did justice to Poe's masterpiece, leaving us all spellbound and contemplating the mysteries of life and loss. And who could forget the hilarious and clever performance by our class clown, Jake? His recitation of Shel Silverstein's "Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out" had us all doubled over with laughter, reminding us that poetry can be whimsical and fun, too.As the night drew to a close and the winners were announced, I realized that we were all champions in our own right. We had conquered our fears, embraced our passions, and shared a part of ourselves with the world. The trophy or the title didn't matter; what mattered was the journey we had taken together, the bonds we had formed through the power of words.Walking out of the auditorium that night, my heart was full of gratitude and inspiration. Poetry had woven its magic once again, reminding me of the beauty that can be found in the simplest of things – a well-crafted line, a carefully chosen metaphor, a rhythmic cadence that touches the soul.As I look back on that unforgettable evening, I can't help but smile. The poetry recital contest wasn't just an event; it was a celebration of life, love, and the incredible gift of language. And for that, I will forever be grateful. So, my fellow poetry lovers, if you ever have the chance to participate in a recital contest, seize it with both hands. Embrace the words, let them flow through you, and share your unique voice with the world. Who knows? You might just find yourself on a journey of self-discovery, connection, and pure, unadulterated magic.。
