We all quacked like crazy when the duck picture came up.Speaking of games, we played a ton of them to practice our English. My favorite was this running game where our teacher would call out a color and we had to run and stand on the circle mat with that color. Whoever was the last one standing had to say a sentence using the color word. I got really good at saying things like "The sky is blue" and "I like red apples." Games made practicing English feel like no work at all!Another time, our teacher brought in all these random objects like a pencil, a water bottle, a stuffed animal. We had togo around the class saying what each object was in English. When it was my turn, I was a little nervous, but I got most of them right. It was really satisfying to be able to say "pencil", "water bottle", and "teddy bear" out loud.We also learned about family members and how to describe them. We drew pictures of our families and labeled each person - "mother", "father", "brother", "sister", etc. Then we got to present our family drawings and descriptions to the class. I talked all about my mom, dad, grandparents, and little sister. Presenting in English was hard at first, but I got the hang of it by the end.My absolute favorite activity, though, was when we read short, simple storybooks out loud together as a class. Our teacher would go through the pages and we would repeat each sentence after her. I loved following along and sounding out words like "cat", "hat", "sat", and "mat." The stories were pretty silly but so much fun to read along with. Whenever our teacher asked us what happened next, I was always waving my hand to share what I thought would happen.Of course, we couldn't just do fun activities all the time. We also had to do worksheets, write sentences, and take quizzes. I actually didn't mind that much since the quizzes had picturesand everything was still pretty basic. As long as I paid attention in class, I could follow along.English is such an interesting language, and I'm excited to keep learning more. Maybe I'll be able to read longer stories, write paragraphs, and have conversations entirely in English by the end of the year!
