The cultural hurdles, compounded by those thrown at them educationally, cause many Native American students to drop out, abuse drugs and alcohol, and/or commit crimes to medicate and alleviate their inability to cope with seemingly insurmountable obstacles.Native American youths have long been at a disadvantage, with regard to post-secondary education, primarily because if a youth does succeed in graduating high school, it is usually by attending a non-Native American program. This limits their ability to interact and succeed in an atmosphere whose predominant cultural alignment is white. While Tuba City High School, which addresses rural, reservation, and isolated students, has been quite successful in raising test scores, graduating more students, keeping substance abuse and teen pregnancy low, it has not provided the Native American youth an opportunity to learn and interact with the white culture that surrounds them. But what of the urban Native American students? It should not be strange to find him at this stage so interested in flowers: the flowers in the wreath, this morning"s flowers, flowers of yesterday, the moonflower which opens to the moth—not interested in them as symbols, but interested in them as beautiful objects. In these poems, the Romantics did not just work on his imagination; **pelled his imagination to work their way. Though merely fin-de-siécle routines, some of these early poems already embodied Eliot"s mature thinking, and forecasted his later development. Nurture or nature, which is more important for the development of human has been debated for hundreds of years.Different people have different opinions.A lot of scientists have applied themselves to this.After a long time,it has been proved that nurture has the biggest influence on human development.
John B. Watson and B.F skinner argued that human nature is completely malleable:early training can turn a child into any kind of adult,regardless of his or her heredity. Abnormal uterine environment can affect maturation process.For example ,if mother contracts German measles.The human fetus develops within the mother's body according to a fairly fixed time schedule, and fetal behaviour, such as turning and kicking,also follows an orderly sequence that depends on the stage of growth.(77~83) Motor development after birth also illustrates the interaction between genetically programmed maturation and environmental influence. More recent studies indicate that practice or extra stimulation can accelerate the appearance of motor behaviours to some extent. For example, new born infants have a stepping reflex; if they are held in an upright position with their feet touching a solid surface, their legs will make stepping movement that are similar to walking.
So ,according to the facts and theoretics, we have no doubt to believe that nurture is more important. Even though nature is also play an important role, but what determine the course of human development is nurture.
