本单元的主题是观鸟，这个也是整个单元的主线。
从介绍各种各样的鸟类开始，进而介绍扎龙和盐城自然保护区的情况，在本单元的最后部分，倡议学生为保护鸟类贡献自己的一份力。
本单元Reading部分是关于扎龙自然保护区以及保护区内的鸟类。
这个部分在本单元中的地位和作用是十分重要的，主要体现在：首先，扎龙自然保护区在我国自然保护区中占有重要地位，学生本来对于自然保护区是没有概念的，经过学习本篇课文，可以对自然保护区有一个初步的了解，为之后如何保护鸟类提供认知基础。
其次，课文中观鸟俱乐部的介绍为最后一部分Task做好了铺垫。
最后，Reading部分是学生积累词汇和语言知识、提升阅读技能的主要阵地。
本课时是Reading部分的第一课时，需要在激发学生阅读兴趣的基础上让学生能够大致了解文章的大意，鼓励学生利用阅读技巧获取更多信息，在情感上引导学生对保护鸟类引发共鸣。
二、学情分析经过初中近两年的英语学习，学生已经熟悉上阅读课的常规步骤，并且具备一定的阅读技巧。
大多数学生都能与他人合作，能从材料中获取主要信息。
阅读课的第一课时难度较大，学生需要克服词汇难关，在教师设计的情境中，完成一项一项的任务，在浓厚的学习兴趣的指引下掌握课本知识。
