第五章正式语和非正式语
语言所承载的基本功能是人际交流功能,根据参与者和具体语言环境,语言有正式和非正式的差别。

说话人社会地位愈高、具体场合愈正式,语言使用就越严谨、越正式;在日常对话或与关系愈亲密的人对话时,语言使用就越生活化、越轻松。

第六章口语和书面语
根据语言传播媒介,语言分为口语和书面语,二者在很多方面均有不同。

与书面语相比,口语一般是说话人与听话人面对面交流,说话人需要听话人关注,并及时得到反馈,所以多
会用到富有感情的提示性交流语,也可有肢体语言、面部表达等。

在准备状态上,书面语一般主题明确,结构紧密;而口语表达各方面都比较随意,并未进行过多准备工作。

文体区别上,口语语法结构简单,句子短小,用词简单、随意,还较多涉及音系学特征;书面语则语法结构较复杂,句子长,用词精确(经作者仔细斟酌),涉及较多的是语相学特征。

此外,口语表达分自发性和非自发性,有需要提前准备的口语表达,如布道、演说等;书面语中也会有口语表达,如小说中的人物对话等。

书面语经常会出现在正式文体中,口语则较多出现在生活会话中;书面语承载较多的是描述功能,口语承载较多的是寒暄功能。

第七章会话英语
言语是人们首要的交流方式,会话是最基本的言语变体。

以日常生活中人们使用频率最高的生活会话为研究对象,我们会发现日常会话的基本特征:语言不明确,主题随意性强,思考时的语言不流畅现象。

具体说来,日常会话句法简单,口语表达较多,属于非正式文体。

日常会话一般发生在生活背景相似的人群中或即使发生,其鲜明特征包括:语音同化、省音表达多,词汇简单、生活化,松散句、省略句较多。

此外,讨论性会话和电话会话也很常见,讨论其往往围绕一个中心展开,或正式或非正式,据具体环境而定;电话会话一般语言较明确,应避免长篇大论,问候语之后再继续到某一主题或一系列主题下的会话。
