Unlike traditional college students, adult learners often have to juggle multiple responsibilities and find ways to manage their time effectively in order to succeed academically.Another challenge for adult learners is adjusting to the college environment and academic expectations. Many adult learners may have been out of school for several years and may need time to readjust to the demands of college-levelcoursework. Additionally, adult learners may also face financial barriers, such as tuition costs and student loan debt, which can make pursuing a bachelor's degree as an adult more challenging.RewardsDespite the challenges, obtaining a bachelor's degree as an adult can be a highly rewarding experience. For many adult learners, earning a degree can lead to increased job opportunities, higher earning potential, and greater job satisfaction. A bachelor's degree can also provide adult learners with a sense of personal accomplishment and fulfillment, as they achieve a goal that they may have been working towards for years.Furthermore, obtaining a bachelor's degree can also provide adult learners with opportunities for personal growth and development. 广东省成人高考学士学位英语作文Being a Grown-Up is Hard Work!Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm 8 years old. I'm in 3rd grade at Sunshine Primary School. I like playing soccer, reading comics, and eating ice cream. But you know what I don't like? Grown-up stuff! It's just so boring and hard.My mom is always nagging me to study hard so I can go to a good university later. She says I have to take the big test for grown-ups called the "Guangdong Adult Higher Education Undergraduate Degree English Exam" when I'm older. It sounds really scary and difficult!Mom showed me a practice test the other day and I couldn't understand any of the questions. They were full of huge vocabulary words I've never seen before like "pragmatic" and "disseminate." How is a kid supposed to know what those mean? And the reading passages were sooooo long and dry, talking about economics and politics. Yuck! The writing section looks impossible too. We have to write a whole essay of at least 400 words! Can you believe that? 400 words is like a book for me. Mom says the essays have to be"well-structured, coherent, and demonstrate advanced language skills." Whatever that means.I tried to write a practice essay about my summer vacation, but I only got to 150 words before I ran out of things to say. "I went to the beach. I swam in the ocean. I ate ice cream. The end." See? That's all the detail an 8-year-old brain can handle! And don't even get me started on the listening comprehension section. The recordings have all these different accents - American, British, Australian. How am I supposed to understand them when they talk so fast about complicated topics? By the time I've figured out what the first person said, the recording has moved on to someone new!The worst part is, we're not even allowed to use our phones or dictionaries during the test. That's like cruel and unusual punishment for a kid! How will I know how to spell "deoxyribonucleic acid" without Google? This Guangdong Adult Higher Education Undergraduate Degree English Exam just seems completely impossible for a little kid like me. Maybe I'll forget all about it and become a professional soccer player or video game streamer instead. Then I won't need to know big fancy words or write book-length essays!Being a grown-up is way too much work. I'm just going to enjoy being a carefree kid while I can. Who wants to build circuits or analyze poetry anyway? I'd rather be outside riding my bike or playingTag with my friends. If you need me, I'll be the one behind the school dumpster trading Pokémon cards ins tead of preparing for that crazy grown-up English test. Childhood rocks!。

河南省成人学士学位英语考试作文

河南省成人学士学位英语考试作文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1My Awesome SchoolHi there! My name is Lily and I'm a third grader at Sunshine Elementary School. I just love going to school every day and I want to tell you all about the totally awesome place where I learn and play. Our school building is really big and colorful. When you walk in the front doors, you see this huge mural that some of the older kids painted a few years ago. It has a giant sun smiling down and kids of all ages playing together. The hallways are bright yellow and there are student artworks hangingeve rywhere you look. I especially like the papier mâché dragons and phoenixes the fifth graders made for Chinese New Year. So cool!My favorite room at school is definitely the library. It's like a magical wonderland full of books as far as the eye can see. The librarian Mrs. Robertson is really nice and helps me find new books I might like all the time. I just finished this epic fantasyseries about kids who go on adventures and fight evil wizards. Now I'm reading books about real kids my age in different countries and time periods. Reading opens up entire new worlds to explore! Then there's music class where we sing songs, learn about notes and rhythms, and even get to play instruments. Last semester we all learned how to play the recorder. I wasn't very good at first and sounded like a squawking bird, but now I can play "Hot Cross Buns" like a pro! This year we get to learn the xylophone which is super exciting. Music is like putting a joyful little dance party right into your day.P.E. class is an absolute blast too. We get to run around and be active while playing all kinds of awesome games. Sometimes we play traditional sports like basketball, soccer, or frisbee. Other times we go for wild creative games that get our hearts pumping like egg monster or builders and bulldozers. My stamina has gone way up since starting school and I'm getting stronger and faster every day.篇2My School Life Is Amazing!Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 8 years old. I go to Sunshine Elementary School and I just love it there! Every morning when I wake up, I'm so excited to go to school and learn new things. My mom packs me a yummy lunch with a sandwich, an apple, and some cookies. She always puts a little note inside that says "Have a great day!" and it makes me smile. The best part of my day is when the bell rings for recess! I run out to the playground as fast as I can to play on the swings and slides. Sometimes my friends and I have jumping rope contests to see who can jump the longest without messing up. Other times, we play tag or hide-and-seek. No matter what, we always have a blast! After recess, it's time for my favorite class - art! I love drawing pictures and painting with all the bright colors. Last week, we learned how to make clay sculptures. I made a little dog that kind of looks like my puppy Buster. My art teacher, Mrs. Garcia, hung it up in the hallway and I felt so proud!Reading time is pretty fun too. We get to choose books from the library and read quietly at our desks. I picked a book about a brave knight who has to slay a dragon. The pictures are so cool, with the knight's shiny armor and the dragon breathing fire. I can't wait to find out if he rescues the princess or not!Math class can be kind of tricky sometimes. We're learning about addition and subtraction now. My teacher Mr. Levi makes us practice a lot with flashcards and worksheets. He says practice makes perfect, so I try really hard. When I get a problem right, he gives me a gold star sticker. I love collecting them!Science is awesome too! Last month, we learned all about the life cycle of a butterfly. We even got to watch little caterpillars form cocoons and then emerge as beautiful butterflies. It was magical! This month, we're studying the solar system. I can't wait to make a model of all the planets orbiting the sun. I hope I get to be Saturn so I can make the rings out of pipe cleaners! At the end of every day, we have music class with Mrs. Johnson. She teaches us fun songs with hand motions and dances. My favorite one is about a little green frog swimming in a pond. We get to ribbit like frogs - it's so silly! Sometimes Mrs. Johnson lets us play instruments like triangles, maracas, or little drums. I'm pretty good at keeping the beat. After the final bell rings, I meet my mom outside and tell her everything I learned that day. She always listens carefully and asks me lots of questions. Then we walk home together and I getstarted on my homework. Math is still kind of hard, but my mom helps me when I'm stuck. I do my best to be a good student!Once my homework is all done, I get to go outside and play until dinner. I love riding my bike, jumping on the trampoline, and chasing after bugs and butterflies in the backyard. Being outside is the best! For dinner, we usually have something yummy like tacos, spaghetti, or chicken nuggets. Mmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!After dinner, I take my bath and get my pajamas on. Then it's time for my favorite part of the night - story time! My dad reads me a chapter from a book every night before bed. Right now, we're reading the adventures of a boy named Harry who goes to a school for wizards. It's SO cool! I wish I could use magic and fly on a broomstick.Once the story is over, my parents tuck me into bed and I snuggle up with my stuffed bunny, Mr. Fluffles. I'm always tired by the end of the day from learning and playing so much. As I drift off to sleep, I think about what an amazing day I had at school. I can't wait to go back tomorrow and do it all over again! Being a kid is the best!篇3Of course! Here's an essay of around 2000 words, written from the perspective of a young elementary school student, for the Henan Province Adult Bachelor's Degree English Examination:My Big Sis Goes to CollegeHi there! My name is Li Ming and I'm 8 years old. I live with my mom, dad, and big sister Mei Mei in a small town called Xingyang. It's not too far from the big city of Zhengzhou. My sister is really smart and she just got into a college there! I'm so proud of her.Mei Mei has always been a great student. Ever since we were little kids, she would spend hours and hours reading books and doing her homework. I remember I used to get so bored watching her study all the time. But now I see how hard work pays off!Last year, Mei Mei told us she wanted to go to college to study business. Mom and dad were really happy, but also a little worried. College is expensive, and we don't have a lot of money. But Mei Mei said she would work really hard to get a scholarship. She started studying like crazy for the big entrance exam.I've never seen anyone work so hard! Even when we were onsummer vacation, she would wake up early and study late into the night. Sometimes I would sneak peeks at her textbooks and think "Wow, that looks SO hard!"The months flew by, and finally the big exam day arrived. Mei Mei was really nervous, but she looked determined. "I'm ready," she told us before leaving. "All that studying is going to pay off, you'll see!" We wished her good luck and she was off.Waiting for her results was torture! Mei Mei wouldn't stop pacing around the house, checking the mail every few minutes. Mom tried to keep her calm by cooking her favorite dumplings. I just tried to stay out of her way - she was basically a bundle of nerves! Then one day, the letter finally came. Mei Mei's hands were shaking as she opened it. We huddled around, holding our breaths...and then she screamed "I GOT IN! I GOT THE SCHOLARSHIP!!" We all hugged and cheered! I've never seen my big sis so happy.Over the next few months, we helped Mei Mei get ready to leave for college. Mom and dad worked overtime to help pay for her books and dorm room. I mostly stayed out of the way - there was so much frantic shopping and packing to do!Finally, move-in day arrived. Seeing my big sis's bedroom empty was so sad. We piled into dad's old truck with all of Mei Mei's belongings and made our way to Zhengzhou University. The campus was huge! Mei Mei's dorm wasn't too bad - just a small room with two tiny beds. "I'll make it homey," she assured us with a big grin.Saying goodbye was really hard. I couldn't stop the tears from flowing as I hugged Mei Mei tightly. "I'll miss you so much!"I sobbed. "Don't worry, I'll be home before you know it," she said softly. "Study hard and maybe you can join me here in a few years!"That thought cheered me up a little. Maybe I could follow in my amazing big sister's footsteps someday! Mom and dad looked so proud saying goodbye to their college student. I could tell they were fighting back tears too.The ride home was pretty quiet. It felt so strange without Mei Mei there. Her vacant bedroom made me sad all over again. But I know this is a great opportunity for her. I can't wait to see what the future holds! Can't wait for your next visit home, Mei Mei! The dumplings will be waiting.篇4My Amazing Life as a KidHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 8 years old. I'm in the 3rd grade at Sunny Hills Elementary School. I love being a kid and going on all sorts of adventures every day! Let me tell you all about my amazing life.I wake up pretty early each morning, around 6:30am. My mom comes into my bedroom and gives me a big hug and kiss on the cheek. "Rise and shine, my little sunflower!" she says in a silly voice. I groan and pull the covers over my head, never wanting to leave my warm, cozy bed. But Mom is crafty - she starts tickling my tummy and I can't help but scrunch up in a fit of giggles. "Okay, okay, I'm up!" I surrender, throwing off the blankets. After getting dressed in my favorite outfit (rainbow leggings and a t-shirt with a unicorn on it), I head to the kitchen for breakfast. My dad is there cooking up a storm - pancakes, eggs, bacon, the works! He always makes the hearty breakfasts to start our days off right. I gobble everything up quickly because I don't want to be late for school. The morning rush is a blur of tying shoes, brushing teeth, packing backpacks, and my parents hustling me and my little brother out the door. We tumble into the car and Dad drops us off at school with a cheery "Have a great day, guys! Love you!" My brother and I race into the building, not wanting to miss out on a second of fun.My classes are okay I guess, but to be honest, they can be pretty boring sometimes. I much prefer recess! As soon as the recess bell rings, I sprint out to the playground alongside my best friends Emma and Alex. We start playing intense games of tag or hide-and-seek, running around like crazy people. I'm always a little embarrassed because I get so sweaty and out of breath. But Emma and Alex never care, they're just having a blast too. After recess, it's time for lunch. The cafeteria has decent food, but nothing too exciting. Tuesdays are my favorite though because that's when they serve chicken nuggets! I could eat those sweet little nuggets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Emma sits with me at lunch and we chat about our favorite TV shows, games, books, and toys. Sometimes we even make trade deals, like I'll give her my fruit snacks if she gives me her Jell-O cup. Thelunch period feels way too short before it's time to head back to class. The rest of the school day is pretty uneventful. We have lessons on math, reading, science, and all the other subjects. I do my best to pay attention, but my mind inevitably starts wandering. I start daydreaming about getting home and playing outside, watching TV and eating snacks, or going on little adventures around the neighborhood with Emma and Alex. Finally, the end of the day bell rings and I practically shoot out of my seat like a rocket. Freedom at last! I meet up with my brother and we walk home together, talking about our days. Once home, I quickly change into play clothes and head outside. My neighborhood is filled with lots of other kids my age and we all gather at the playground or someone's backyard. We play baseball, jump on the trampoline, climb trees, draw with sidewalk chalk, and have fun running around getting fresh air and exercise. Sometimes I'll bring out my walkie-talkies and we'll pretend to be spies or superheroes going on secret missions. Our imaginations run wild and anything seems possible in our made-up games.Around 6pm, I hear my mom calling for me to come inside for dinner. I'm always starving by that point and race inside, mystomach growling. My parents cook really yummy meals like tacos, spaghetti, stir fry, and other tasty stuff. We sit around the table and I tell them about my day at school and playing outside while scarfing down seconds and thirds. After dinner, I take a bath and then have an hour or so to relax before bedtime. I mightread books, put together puzzles, play with my dollhouse, or watch cartoons during that free time. Sometimes Emma or Alex will call me and we'll chat on the phone for a while too. All too soon though, it's time for bed again. My parents tuck me in, read me a story, and give me hugs and kisses. Then they turn out the light and I'm left staring at the glow-in-the-dark star stickers on my ceiling. My mind starts to wander as I think about all篇5My Awesome School YearHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 8 years old. I just finished 2nd grade and I want to tell you all about my awesome school year. Get ready for some great stories! My favorite subject is art class. I love getting to draw, paint, and make cool projects. This year we learned about different artists and styles. My favorite was when we studied Claude Monet and the impressionist painters. I made my own impressionist painting of a water lily pond just like Monet's famous paintings! I used Q-tips to dab on the paint and make it look fuzzy and blurred. It turned out so pretty. For our next project, we learned about abstract art from painters like Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky. Abstract art uses shapes, colors, and lines in interesting ways instead of realistic pictures. I made an abstract sculpture out of pipe cleaners, pom poms, and cardboard shapes. I twisted the pipe cleaners into squiggles and rectangles, then glued on the pom poms and cardboard pieces. My sculpture looked like a crazy, colorful monster! Art class is so much fun.In music class, we learned how to play the recorder. It was really hard at first to get any sound out of that little plastic flute thing. I kept blowing too hard or not hard enough. But eventually I got the hang of it and could play "Hot Cross Buns" and other simple songs. For our concert at the end of the year, we all played "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" together. I was sonervous to perform in front of families, but it ended up being awesome!Science is another great class. We did lots of cool experiments this year. One time we made balloon rocket cars by blowing up a balloon and letting it go so the air pushed the car across the floor. We had races to see whose car could go the farthest and fastest. I came in third place! Another time we made a spinning contraption using paper clips, straws, and string. When you pulled the strings a certain way, it made the paper clip start spinning. It was like magic!Writing was a bit more of a challenge for me. We had to practice things like using descriptive details, staying organized, checking our spelling and grammar, and more. I didn't mind the actual writing part, but got tired of having to revise and edit my stories so many times. By the end though, my final drafts looked a whole lot better thanks to all that hard work. Maybe I'll be a famous author someday! As for math, I'm not gonna lie...it was my least favorite subject. All those numbers, equations, word problems...it made my brain hurt sometimes! Fractions were THE WORST. I could never remember if I was supposed to flip the second fraction or keep it straight. Why do they have to make it so confusing??Multiplication was a little easier though. By the end of the year, I had gotten pretty decent at my times tables up to 12. Definitely an improvement from last year at least! You can't forget the importance of courses like gym class and computer class too. Gym was a great way to get energy out by running around and playing games like kickball or doing zumba dances. And in computer class we learned valuable skills like typing, using different programs, and internet safety. Super useful for being a kid in today's tech world.Even though a lot of work, school was still loads of fun. We went on some really cool field trips too! One time we went to the science museum and got to see a virtual reality experience and a laser light show. Another time we went to an outdoor park and learned篇6My School DaysHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 8 years old. I'm going to tell you all about my life as a student. Being a kid is hard work, but it's also a lot of fun!I wake up pretty early every morning, around 6:30am. My mom comes into my bedroom and gently shakes me to wake me up. "Time to rise and shine, Lily!" she'll say in a singsong voice. I groan and pull the covers over my head - I'm definitely not a morning person! But mom is persistent. She'll turn on the lights and open the curtains to let the sunshine in. "You don't want to be late for school, do you?" she'll ask.Grudgingly, I get out of my warm, cozy bed. I get dressed in my uniform - a white polo shirt, navy blue skirt, and black shoes. After I brush my teeth, I head to the kitchen for breakfast. My favorite is mom's homemade pancakes with syrup and fresh fruit on the side. The sweet maple syrup helps wake me up!By 7:30am, I'm out the door and walking to school with my best friend Emma. We live just a couple blocks away, so it's an easy walk. We chat and giggle the whole way about whatever is on our minds that morning - movies, books, games, you name it. Sometimes we make up funny jokes and riddles to amuse each other. We arrive at Pine Grove Elementary by 8am. The big brick building with its tall windows and playground out back is very familiar to me. I've been coming here since kindergarten! I give my mom a hug goodbye and then I'm off to start my day.First up is math class with Mrs. Robertson. Math is my favorite subject because I'm a whiz at solving equations and word problems. I love that feeling when you finally figure out the right answer! Today we're learning about fractions. It seems confusing at first, but Mrs. Robertson is really good at breaking it down step-by-step. By the end of class, I've got the hang of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Piece of cake! After math is a quick snack break, and then we have reading class with Mr. Davis. Reading is my second favorite subject. I especially love reading fantasy novels about mythical creatures and magical lands. Right now we're reading the classic book "Charlotte's Web" about a pig named Wilbur who gets saved by a spider named Charlotte. It's such a touching story of friendship and sacrifice. For our assignment, we have to write a different ending to the book. I'm excited to let my imagination run wild!Next up is science with Ms. Wilson. We're currently learning about the water cycle - evaporation, condensation, precipitation. It's pretty neat stuff! We get to do a lot of hands-on activities and experiments. Last week we made our own mini water cycle models using plastic bottles and bowls. Watching the processhappen right before our eyes was amazing. Science lets us explore and discover how the world works. Then it's time for lunch and recess. I always pack my lunch from home - a sandwich, yogurt, baby carrots, a juicebox and a cookie. Once I've refueled, I race outside to meet up with my friends. We spend the whole hour running around on the playground, playing games like tag, hopscotch and jump rope. All that physical activity really helps me burn off some of my endless energy! After recess, we have history class with Mr. Thompson. Even though it can sometimes be a little boring, I know it's important to learn about the past. This semester, we're studying ancient Egypt - the pharaohs, the pyramids, mummies, hieroglyphics and more. I've always been fascinated by that mysterious and magical civilization. In our last class, we even got to mummify a tomato! Wrapping it up in cloth and herbs was pretty cool.To wrap up our day, we have art class with Miss Evans. This is where we can really let our creativity run free. We work with all sorts of different materials like paints, clay, collages and more. Miss Evans always has fun, imaginative projects for us. Recently, we made self-portraits using modeling clay. I sculpted myself with pigtail braids, rosy cheeks, and a big toothy grin. Art class ismy happy place where I can be as expressive and unique as I want. Finally, at 3pm, the final bell rings and school is officially over for the day. I meet up with my friend Emma again and we joyfully make the short walk back home, skipping and jumping along the way. Once I'm home, I have a few hours of free time before dinner. I love this part of the day because I can just relax, play outside, read comics, or watch cartoons. Being a student keeps me busy, so I cherish these pockets of freedom.Around 6pm, my whole family sits down together for dinner. We go around the table taking turns discussing the highlights of our days. I'll enthusiastically recap everything I learned in each class that day. Sometimes I'll do funny impressions of my teachers to make my parents laugh. After dinner, I take a warm bath and then it's off to bed to start the cycle all over again tomorrow.Being an elementary school student is hard work, but it's also incredibly rewarding. Every day, I'm learning and growing so much, both intellectually and socially. School opens up my eyes to the wide world around me - from numbers and words, to science and history, toart and creativity. It's teaching meessential skills that will set me up for future success. I'm making wonderful memories and friends that will last a lifetime.Even after a tiring day, I go to bed feeling happy, fulfilled, and excited for what tomorrow will bring. The life of a young student is one of endless curiosity, wonder and possibility. I feel so lucky to spend my days surrounded by great teachers and peers who are helping shape me into the person I'll one day become. These are some of the best days of my life!。

练习一《童年的快乐和痛苦》The Pleasures and Pains of ChildhoodChildhood is a time when there are few responsibilities to make life difficult. If a child has good parents,he is fed, looked after and loved, whatever he may do.It is improbable that he will ever again in his life be given so much without having to do anything in return. In addition, life is always presenting new things to the child-things that have lost their interest for older people because they are too well-known.A child finds pleasure in playing in the rain,or in the snow. His first visit to the seaside is a marvelous adventure./But a child has his pains:he is not so free to do as he wishes as he thinks older people are:he is continually being told not to do things,or being punished for what he has done wrong. His life is therefore not perfectly happy.练习二《如何应付面试》How to Behave in an InterviewIn order to make a good impression during a job interview, you need to prepare yourself for it.You must arrive in plenty of time for the interview,so that you give yourself a little time to relax before the interview begins./The impression you make as you walk into the room is very important.Try to find out if the company or organization has rules about dress. Then try to dress according to their regulations./You also need to plan what you are going to say.In some interviews you will have to do a lot of talking, and in others you will only have to answer a few questions about your education and experience. You need to have answers ready about yourself, your schoolwork, your strong points, your reasons for applying for the job,and the salary you expect./You will also be allowed to ask some questions. The questions you ask will show the interviewer that you have given careful thought to the position. You can ask questions like these:What duties will I have to do in the job?Does the company provide health insurance?Does the company provide opportunities for further education?练习四《大学生应当做业余兼职吗?》Should College Students Do Part-time Jobs? Most students think that doing part-time jobs when studying at college can provide them with an opportunity to get in touch with the society. Also, some students do part-time jobs to support themselves. They are said to work through college./However,it’s not easy to find jobs which are suitable for students. Some jobs requiring long hours of tedious work under tough conditions may do harm to their health.Besides, some jobs may expose them to the negative aspects of society-dishonesty and corruption./Therefore,students should take a second thought in deciding whether they should do part-time jobs or what kind of jobs they should choose. If they are lucky enough to take a good job,it will benefit them enormously.Otherwise it may waste their time and their energy.练习五《对参加生日聚会邀请的回复》信件格式!!A Reply to a Birthday PartyDear Henry,/Happy birthday to you!/I got the invitation to your birthday party yesterday morning. Thanks to much for inviting me to join in your party.I tried hardto reschedule my activities, but I am sorry to tell you that I will not be able to join you.My boss and I have to leave for Shanghai next week for an international trade affair. There is not any possibility of canceling it.I will go to see you as soon I am back.I am sure you will have a great fun at the party!/Sincerely yours,/Jane练习六《我对电子邮件的看法》My View on E-mailElectronic mail,or E-mail for short,is a new way of communication by means of computers.Fast, cheap and convenient,E-mail is so popular that it has become an indispensable means of communication./Millions of computers all over the world have been connected to form a global network, namely the Internet. You can send and receive by E-mail documents, letters and papers to anyone in other countries in no time.By using E-mail you can also store, delete, compile information. In a world,E-mail helps you overcome spatial and time limitations in communication./With the rapidly growing popularity of computers and the expansion of information highway,E-mail is expected to play a more and more important role in our lives.练习七《住在城市——疯狂的念头》Living in a City-a Crazy IdeaTired of the city life, some city-dwellers opt for city suburbs as their residence. They are flocking there to avoid people-in the city, wherever you look,it’s people,people,people./It’s not strange for them complain about the living conditions in the city.It takes ages for a bus to get to you because the traffic on the roads has virtually come to a standstill. The subways which leave or arrive every few minutes are packed:an endless procession of human sardine tins. All the simple, good things of life like sunshine and fresh air are at a premium.Tall buildings blot out the sun.The flow of traffic goes on continuously and the noise never stops.练习八《跳槽》Career HoppingToday, growing numbers of men and women are changing careers or getting second starts in careers that have greater appeal to them. Many of those who find that their work is unsatisfactory retrain themselves for a different occupation./Job changes and careers shifts occur at all ages.It is estimated that as many as one out of four male workers between the ages of twenty and twenty-five change their lines of work.About half that number do so between the ages of twenty-five and forty-four.Some married women combine child-rearing responsibilities with new career lines./Motives for changing careers vary widely, but many people move because they feel bored with the dull routine. For some,a second start grows out of the realization that want out of life is not what they are doing, and they decide to do what they enjoy. Most go back to school to get the training they need to make the shifts.练习十一《关掉你的手机》Turn off Your Mobile PhoneWith the development of information technology and reduced price of communication products, the mobile phone has become a necessity for people. It is obvious that it shortens the distance between people and makes our life more convenient. Thanks to it,it’s easy for us to contact others anytime and anywhere./However,have you noticed that the mobile phone also brings embarrassment to people? It’s not rareto see people pressing the mobile phone to his ear and shouting loudly in public as if there no one else present. It is more than likely that you have noticed that the mobile phones ring continuously on a formal occasion.People around them have to listen to the noise and they can’t concentrate on what they’re doing.练习十二《健康的生活方式》A Healthy LifestyleDear James,/I am glad to get your letter.Do you still feel stressful? As far as I know,a lot of people live in a way that is wearing themselves out.In fact, life doesn’t have to be like that.It is wise to bear an important principle in your mind—managing time.To make it simple, decide what you want in your life, and put that first.Whatever makes you feel good about yourself and your life, just do it!Take a nap,or a walk.Take time to play the piano.Stop bringing your briefcase home from the office.Fill more of your time with want-to-dos instead of have-to-dos./Each us has to make choices and accept trade-offs.Anyhow,we should do something for ourselves.I hope you can manage your life!Stay cool!/Yours faithfully,/Linda练习十四《打电话还是写信》Making a Phone Call or Writing a LetterWhen there is a need to communicate with people,we either make a phone call or write a letter. Some people like making a phone call while others prefer writing a letter./The advantage of phoning is evident. It is handy and fast.We can contact whomever we want to and talk with him right away.By making phone calls, people can discuss things as if they were in the same room .However, there are still some people who prefer to write letters. There is no doubt that letters are less expensive than long-distance calls.Besides it is a better choice for those who are not good at expressing themselves orally. However,it takes days, even weeks for a letter to reach its destination./Both making a phone call and writing a letter are effective means of communication. It seems advisable to make use of them both on different occasions. 练习十五《应聘信》信件格式!!A Letter of ApplicationDear Sir:/I was pleased to see your ad in the newspaper on December 25th for a sales engineer. In July I will receive my bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from Nanjing University, and I would like to be considered for the post./I believe I am a competitive candidate for your post because both my education and work experience meet your requirement.Besides degree courses concerning electronics,I also took such courses as Marketing,Consumer Behavior st summer,I participated in an electronic project, from which I have gained practical experience in this field./I would welcome an opportunity to join your company because your post is what I’ve been preparing for.If you feel that I might be the right person for the job I would be ready for an interview at your convenience.I am looking forward to your reply!/Sincerely yours,/Zhou Fang练习十六《投诉信》信件格式!!A Letter of ComplaintDear Sir:/I am writing to complain about one of your bus drivers, who was so rude to the passengers./Yesterday,I was taking the bus No.133 to school. It was about 9:30 in the morning. It was not the rush-hour and there were not many passengers on the bus.But the driver drove so fast and he didn’t slow down even when the bus turned round street corners. One of the passengers asked him to drive slowly but he did not listen. When the bus reached the next stop,a man stood up and walked towardthe door. The driver stopped the bus so suddenly that the man could not keep his balance and fell on the floor. The driver didn’t make an apology and asked him to get off the bus right away./I think that public bus system should serve the public wholeheartedly. The safety of passengers should be the major concern. It is my sincere hope that proper measures ought to be taken to prevent such incidents from happening again./Yours sincerely/Liu Yuan模拟一《干渴的世界》A Thirsty WorldThe world is not only hungry,it is also thirsty for water. This may seem strange to you since nearly 75 percent of the earth’s surface is covered with water. But about 97 percent of this huge amount is seawater,or salt water.Man can only drink and use the other percent—the fresh water that comes from rivers, lates, underground and other sources. But unfortunately, some of it has been polluted and is unfit for drinking. However, this small amount of fresh water is still enough for us.But our need for water is increasing rapidly—almost day by day./Only if we take steps to deal with this problem now can we avoid a severe worldwide water shortage later on.So we all have to learn how to stop wasting our precious water. One of the first steps we should take is to develop ways of reusing water.Today in most large cities water is used only once and then discharged. But it is possible to pine water that has been used to a purifying plant, and then it can be used again.Another way out is to turn to the oceans. That is certainly a possible solution. All we’d have to do is to remove the salt. This process is already in use in many parts of the world. 模拟二《如何减轻压力》How to Cope with Stress? It is often believed that only rich middle-aged businessmen suffer from stress. In fact anyone may become ill as a result of stress if they experience a lot of worry over a long period and their health is not especially good.Stress can be a friend or an enemy:it can warn you that you are under too much pressure and should change your way of life.It can kill you if you don’t notice the warning signals./As with ail illnesses, prevention is better than cure.If you find you can’t relax,it is a sign of danger. When you’re taking work home, when you can’t enjoy evening with friends, when you haven’t time for outdoor exercise—that is the time to stop and yourself whether your present life really suits you. Then it’s time to join a relaxation class,or take up dancing, painting or gardening.。
