Unit 2 RobotsⅠ.阅读理解A(2018·全国Ⅲ)Adults understand what it feels like to be flooded with objects. Why do we often assume that more is more when it comes to kids and their belongings? The good news is that I can help my own kids learn earlier than I did how to live more with less.I found the pre-holidays a good time to encourage young children to donate less-used things, and it worked.Because of our efforts, our daughter Georgia did decide to donate a large bag of toys to a little girl whose mother was unable to pay for her holiday due to illness. She chose to sell a few larger objects that were less often used when we promised to put the money into her school fund(基金)(our kindergarten daughter is serious about becoming a doctor). For weeks,I’ve been thinking of bigger, deeper questions:How do we make it a habit for them? And how do we train ourselves to help them live with, need, and use less?Yesterday,I sat with my son,Shepherd, determined to test my own theory on this.I decided to play with him with only one toy for as long as it would keep his interest.I expected that one toy would keep his attention for about five minutes, ten minutes, max.I chose a red rubber ball—simple, universally available. We passed it,he tried to put it in his mouth,he tried bouncing it,rolling it,sitting on it,throwing it.It was totally, completely enough for him. Before I knew it an hour had passed and it was time to move on to lunch. We both became absorbed in the simplicity of playing together. He had my full attention and I had his.My little experiment to find joy in a single object worked for both of us.【语篇导读】本文是议论文。

1.What do the words“more is more” in paragraph 1 probably mean?A.The more,the better.B.Enough is enough.C.More money,more worries.D.Earn more and spend more.
由第一段首句“Adults understand what it feels like to be flooded with objects.”
2.What made Georgia agree to sell some of her objects?A.Saving up for her holiday.B.Raising money for a poor girl.C.Adding the money to her fund.D.Giving the money to a sick mother.
由第二段最后一句“She chose to sell a few larger objects...when we promised to put the money into her school fund(基金)(our kindergarten daughter is serious about becoming a doctor).”

B(2018·浙江杭州二模)A laptop,a hair straightener,Christmas lights,an e-reader,a kettle, two bags,a pair of jeans,a remote-control helicopter,a spoon, and a dining-room chair. All broken. It sounds like a pile of things that you’d stick in boxes and take to the dustbins. In fact,it’s a list of things mended in a single afternoon by British volunteers determined to get people to stop throwing things away. This is the Reading Repair Cafe, part of an international network aimed at dealing with a world of rubbish. The helicopter belongs to William who cheerfully describes himself as “mechanically incompetent”.He has owned it for 8 years, but 3 years ago it stopped working and it has been sitting unused in his cupboard ever since. He sits down at the table of Colin Haycock,an IT professional who volunteers at the repair cafe, which has been running for about four years and is a place where people can bring all manner of household items to be fixed for free.In less than five minutes,Haycock has fixed the helicopter and it works well.William looks ashamed;Haycock looks pleased.“I wish they were all that simple,” he says.Today, the repairers will stop 24 kg of waste from going to landfill (垃圾填埋场) and save 284 kg of CO2.Some items can’t be fixed on the spot but very little needs to be thrown away.Gabrille Stanley, who used to run a clothing business, says she was drawn to volunteering at the repair cafe to fight the “throw-away culture”.About 300,000 tons of clothing was sent to landfill in the UK in 2016 and a report from WRAP puts the average lifespan (寿命) for a piece of clothing in the UK at 3.3 years.【语篇导读】本文是一篇说明文。

Unit 2 RobotsⅠ.阅读理解A(2017·8月浙江“超级全能生”高三联考)Mention the word “coding” and the first image that comes to mind is a complicated algorithm(运算法则)that has no relationship to the real world.Itis, therefore,no wonder that most kids avoid learning this skill that is becoming increasingly important in today’s world. Now,thanks to a small robot, even kids as young as five, will be demanding program.Root,a robot, can be accessed using an iPad.It has been designed to teach coding to kids at various levels. For beginners or young children,Root is less about coding but more about problem-solving.Kids can construct a “what if” situation by moving icons(图标)around on the tablet and observing the consequences of their action instantly. This simple “cause and effect” logic can be used to teach the robot to “drive” along a vertical dry-erase whiteboard and quickly draw with a dry-erase marker.Root can also be instructed to move around the floor, draw patterns, and avoid barriers. As students get more comfortable with the concept, they can downloadcommands, meaning that Root can be told to draw a race track on a whiteboard, and then multiple Root robots can be instructed to race each other.Other fun options include programming Root to go faster when driving over the color green and coming to a stop upon sensing the color red. That’s just the beginning of the possibilities—Root can also be taught to flee when it detects danger, which in this case is the beam from a flashlight, and even play “Angry Birds” on a whiteboard using real-worldphysics.Since multiple Roots can be used at the same time, the robot is the perfect classroom tool to introduce coding to young kids.Raphael believes that this novel approach to coding will excite great interest because unlike the traditional method,Root makes coding fun for even the youngest of students.Unfortunately, the robot, successfully tested by kids in the laboratory,is not yet available for schools. The researchers estimate that Root will be sold for about $200,making it fairly affordable for anyone that wishes to learn how to code.【语篇导读】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了coding(编程,编码)非常复杂,难以理解,以至很多学生不愿意学习。

Unit 2 RobotsⅠ.阅读理解A(2020·河北省高三年级名校联考) In elementary school,Glenn Cameron was very aware of the challenges faced by his friend,Roger, who had lost a hand. Now he has built an artificial helper for him.The robotic hand is called “Dexi”.Each of its fingers can move independently. The strength and speed of the hand's“muscles” can be controlled. He's also created a digital version of this hand, which responds on a computer screen.Through a special headset, the system takes electrical signals from a human brain, sends them to a computer, and then the computer “ tells” the hand what to do.For example,to make the hand close, you “see” a fist in your head.In fact,Cameron's first robotic hand was 3D printed online.Realizing the hand was too limited,he decided to build his own.It was quite a challenge, but his new version was better. It was also cheap, compared to many other robotic hand projects.Cameron says designing and building the hand was hard, but he went on.Then came the one Roger is using.Cameron is working on a hand that can actually be used by a person who's lost a hand at present. He says the new hand will be simpler, because there won't be as much space. To make up for this,he's adding a mini camera and trying to make the hand smarter.Cameron encourages young people who think they might want to do something demanding and similar,“ You just begin working towards it.Take one little step at a time, purposeful and steadfast, sooner or later you're going to get to the place you long for.”
2020版高考英语大一轮复习课时达标32Unit2Robots(含解析)新人教版选修7
ATraditionally, robots have been hard, made of metal and other rigid material. But a team of scientists at Harvard University in the US has managed to build an entirely soft robot—one that draws inspiration from an octopus(章鱼).Described in science journal Nature, the “Octobot” could pave the way for more effective autonomous robots that could be used in search, rescue and exploration. “The Octobot is a minimal system which may serve as a foundation for a new generation of completely soft, autonomous robots,” the study's authors wrote.Robots built for precise, repetitive movements in a controlled environment don't do so well on rough terrains(地形) or in unpredictable conditions. And they aren't especially safe around humans, because they're made out of hard and heavy parts that could be potentially dangerous to their users. So researchers have been working on building soft robots for decades. They've taken inspiration from nature, looking to animals from jellyfish to cockroaches, which are often made up of more flexible matter. But creating a completely soft robot remains a challenge. Even if engineers build a silicone(硅酮) body, it's still a grand challenge to construct flexible versions of essential parts, such as a source of power.“Although soft robotics is still in its early stage, it holds great promise for several applications, such as searchandrescue operations and exploration,” Barbara Mazzolai and Virgilio Mattoli of the Italian Institute of Technology's Center for MicroBioRobotics, wrote in a comment. “Soft robots might also open up new approaches to improving wellness and quality of life.”
