(建议用时:30分钟)Ⅰ阅读理解A(2019·济南5月针对性练习)In 1869, the Smiley family purchased an area of landabout 100 miles north of New York City. Over time, some of their property and many of the surrounding landscapes became the Mohonk Preserve, which has since grown to 8,000 acres and attracts visitors and rock climbers. But the Mohonk Preserve also has a long scientific legacy. In the 1930s, Dan Smiley, a descendent of the original owners, began keeping track of the plants and animals that lived in the area.Megan Napoli is a research ecologist with the Mohonk Preserve in New York. She thinks Smiley’s efforts produced a rare longterm data set of observations, which is useful for studying the impacts of climate change. For instance, other research has shown that songbirds are migrating north earlier and earlier in the spring. It’s important for the birds to arrive at the proper time in the spring, because they need to time their arrival with the insects’ emergence. So they need to be here to establish their nesting sites and lay their eggs. Once the eggs hatch, they have their baby birds, so they need to time it when the insects are most abundant.Napoli has begun analyzing about 76,000 observations of songbird migration dates collected by Smiley and his team to see if they, too, show that climate change has altered the timing of migrations. Her results suggest that they do.Napoli found that shortdistance migrants that spend their winters in the southern U.S. now arrive an average of eleven days earlier than they did in the 1930s. Longdistance migrants that overwinter in the tropics arrive roughly a week earlier. Napoli presented her results at a recent meeting of the Ecological Society of America in Portland, Oregon.Meanwhile, who knows how many other longterm, personal data collections like Smiley’s are out there, wa iting to be discovered and to help improve official attempts to track the planet’s changes.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

1.What do we know about Dan Smiley?A.He lived in New York City.B.He was a scientific researcher.C.He owned the Mohonk Preserve.D.He kept a record of wildlife.D

根据第二段第二句“In the 1930s, Dan Smiley, a descendent of the original owners, began keeping track of the plants and animals that lived in the area.”

2.What does the underlined word “it”in Paragraph 4 refer to?A.The birds’ birth.B.The birds’ arrival.C.The nest building.D.The insects’ appearance.B

根据第四段第一句“It’s important for the birds to arrive at the proper time in the spring, because they need to time their arrival with the insects’ emergence.”

又结合本段中的“Once the eggs hatch, they have their baby birds, so they need to time it when the insects are most abundant.”

3.What does Megan Napoli think of Smiley’s longterm record?A.It has affected the birds’ migration.B.It challenges the previous research.C.It has changed official attitudes.D.It is of great value to her research.D解析:细节理解题。

根据第三段第二句“She thinks Smiley’s efforts produced a rare long-term data set of observations, which is useful for studying the impacts of climate change.”

4.What can w e learn from Napoli’s research?A.It is totally based on Smiley’s longterm notes.B.Scientists have to rely on more personal data.C.Climate change affects birds’ migration time.D.It contributes greatly to other personal research.C解析:细节理解题。

根据第五段的内容尤其是最后一句“Her results suggest that they do.”

B(2019·河南豫北名校质量评估)Kazakhstan announced plans to bring wildtigers back to their historical range in the Ili-Balkhash region, and signed an agreement with World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF) to conduct a tiger reintroduction program. “It will not only bring wild tigers back to their ancestral home, but also protect the unique ecosystem of the IliBalkhash region,”said Askar Myrzakhmetov, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan. If successful, Kazakhstan will be the first country in the world to bring wild tigers back to an entire region where they have died out for nearly half a century. Tiger reintroduction projects have only been achieved within national borders and in areas that are considered current tiger habitats(栖息地). Kazakhstan’s tige r reintroduction program is unique and it desperately requires the restoration of a vast forest that is part of the wild tiger’s historical range.Since the beginning of the 20th century, wild tigers have lost over 90 per cent of their historical range. Wild tigers have completely disappeared from the region since the late 1940s, due to the loss of habitat. To prepare for the return of wild tigers, on 1st January 2018 Kazakhstan set up a new nature reserve in the southwestern IliBalkhash, in order to restore the unique forest habitat. This will include the protection of existing wildlife, and reintroducing important prey(猎物), such as the endangered wild Bactrian deer.Restoring tigers will also help protect Lake Balkhash and prevent it from repeating the fate of the Aral Sea, formerly the world’s fourth largest lake and now 10 per cent of its original size. “The hard work remains ahead of us. We have to spare no effort to make this region ready for tigers and involve all stakeholders(利益相关者) to make this happen. That means dealing with illegal activities, having these people who govern parks be well-trained and equipped, increasing prey populations and involving local communities,”said Ekaterina V orobyeva, Director of the WWF program.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

阅读理解A(2019·山师附中模拟)Sometimes we may find that every week there are a lot of new stories about how climate change is affecting the planet,or new plans to battle its effects. But the concept itself isn't new at all—in fact, scientists have been exploring questions about climate change for almost 200 years. The idea of “greenhouse gases” goes back to 1824,when Joseph Fourier wondered what was regulating the earth's temperature.Fourier concluded that the atmosphere must be responsible for containing the heat absorbed from the sun and described it as a box with a glass lid.As light shines through the glass, the inside gets warmer as the lid traps the heat.As Fourier's ideas spread,it came to be called “the greenhouse effect”.Scientists continued to study the greenhouse effect. Not until a Swedish chemist named Svante Arrhenius came along, did scientists understand how global warming actually works. After years of work,Arrhenius determined that the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere did in fact have a direct effect on global temperatures.Arrhenius found that CO2,and other gases trap radiation, which warms the atmosphere.Arrhenius was the first to suspect that burning coal could contribute to the greenhouse effect. But Arrhenius welcomed the warming effect on the planet. At a lecture later that year,Arrhenius noted that creatures of a warmer earth “might live under a milder sky and in less barren surroundings”.While Arrhenius' findings won him the 1903 Nobel Prize in chemistry, scientists kept debating whether the greenhouse effect was increasing until 1950,when researchers finally began to find strong data supporting it.By the end of the 1950s,American scientists had been sounding the alarm on the long-term consequences of climate change.Climate change research has come a long way since Fourier first described the greenhouse effect-still,maybe Arrhenius should have been more careful of what he wished for.【文章大意】本文主要讲述了科学家们对气候变化的众多探索。

(2014·We sometimes think global warming or climate change is a problem very far away from our lives, and that only the government needs to worry about it. But it's hardly possible to completelystay out of it—scientists are now 95 percent sure that humans have been the “dominant cause”of global warming trends since the 1950s.One of the conclusions of a report released on Sept 27 by the United Nations says that human activities have caused global temperatures to rise by 0.89℃between 1901 and 2012. That might not seem like a lot, but the truth is that a major part of that heat has been absorbed into the oceans, which is not surprising given that they cover two thirds of Earth's surface. Also, water has a much greater capacity (容量) to absorb heat than the air does, according to The Economist. While many greenhouse gases occur naturally and are needed to keep the Earth warm enough to support life, humans' use of fossil fuels is the main source of excess (多余的) greenhouse gases. According to CNN, by driving cars, using electricity produced by burning coal and oil or heating our homes with coal or natural gas, we release a large amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.Your body can barely feel a difference of 0.89℃,but the Earth's ecosystems are so sensitive that even small changes can disturb them. It often starts with the smallest creatures at the bottom of the food chain, eventually affecting bigger animals, many of which could end up becoming extinct.Global warming is also linked to an increase in extreme weather. A larger amount of carbon dioxide traps more energy inside the atmosphere. This changes the patterns of storms and rainfall in many regions and can lead to droughts and floods. Worse still, melting sea ice in warmer oceans is causing sea levels to rise at a speed of more than three millimeters per year, according to The Guardian, which also increases the risk of flooding.“The report should serve as another wake-up call that our activities today have a profound impact on society, not only for us, but for many generations to come,” French Michel Jarraud, secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization, said at a news conference.
