高中英语真题:某中学2015届高三下学期第三次模拟考试试卷试题.doc一、阅读理解(共5题)1.On August 16, 1977, Elvis Presley saved me.The previous afternoon, I played with my six-year-old peers in Heather Peter s’ backyard. I was enjoying my cake, when Heather asked me where my sleeping bag was. Only then did I know this party was a sleepover. The word “sleep-over” to a six-year-old bed-wetter is like what “cancer” means to an adult. But what if I told them I was a bed-wetter? At least with cancer, people gather at your bedside instead of running from it.I thought of a way to escape. I would explain that I needed my mother's permission to spend the nights. But as I called my Mom, Heather stood beside me to listen. She granted permission! Then I would be sleeping in the same living room as the other girls. I didn't bring my own pajamas (睡衣),so Mrs. Peters offered me Heather's pajamas. As the other girls drifted into their sweet dreams, I tried to stay awake. “Do I need to go again? I'll stay up to go one more time.. .”.Of course , I finally fell asleep. The next morning , I was the first to wake up. I was warm! I lay in panic for what seemed like hours before the other girls started to wake up. I did the only thing I could do —I pretended that the bed-wetting didn't happen. I got up, took off Heather's pajamas and changed into my clothes like the other girls.Mrs. Peters walked into the room, and before she could say anything, she stepped right onto the pile of my wet pajamas. My heart stopped as I watched her face burn red. “WHO DID THIS?” She screamed, with a look so frightening. Should I answer? And that was when it happened — Mr. Peters came in and grabbed his wife , ‘‘Elvis Presley died!”The news of the King's death overtook Mrs. Peters, and I ,was spared. I got home without the other girls knowing what had happened.21. The author had to spend the night at Peters' because ________.A. she enjoyed her cake thereB. the famous singer Elvis Presley died that nightC. her mother allowed her to do soD. It was a routine of the party22. Mrs. Peters got angry because ________.A. she found the wet pajamasB. Elvis Presley passed awayC. her husband was rude to herD. all the girls slept at her house23. Students with talent in sports and students who are from ethnic groups can also benefit from this policy. The extra credits have increased these students' chances of being admitted by famous universities. Some parents were found to have helped their children fabricate(伪造)award experiences or falsify qualifications to get extra credits.“It has harmed education equality,” the ministry said.Xiong Bingqi, vice-chief of the 21st Century Education Research Institute, said the policy is designed to help students who have special talents but may be weak in academic performance to have a chance to receive higher education. It will still be needed but it is time to make the rules fairer," he said. The ministry said it will reduce the range of competitions whose winners can get extra credits, and limit the winners, privileges. The new policy will apply to students who begin high school in 2011, it said.Chen Lei, a mother of a 10-year-old girl, said she welcomed the ministry's policy adjustment as she does not want her daughter to become an Olympic competition geek. But not all the Chinese pare nts welcomed the new policy. “It is like a thunderbolt for me. My 13-year-old son has spent so much time studying Olympic math, and participated in so many technological competitionsduring vacations. It is useless now,” said Dong Wen, a 43-year-old mother.A student said, “Many students have changed the current study plan, and they can abandon the competition. I will be interested in learning the courses which can improve my abilities.”Yuan Guiren, minister of education, told China Daily that the reform is an attempt to consider the overall quality of an applicant. “But the country will not stop the national college entrance examination as it is still the most objective way to evaluate talent in China,” he said.25. ARaised in a fatherless home, my father was extremely tightfisted towards us children. His attitude didn’t soften as I grew into adulthood and went to college. I had to ride the bus whenever I came home. Though the bus stopped about two miles from home, Dad never met me, even in severe weather. If I grumbled, he’d say in his loudest father-voice, “That’s what your legs are for!”The walk didn’t bother me as much as the fear of walking alone along the hig hway and country roads. I also felt less than valued that my father didn’t seem concerned about my safety. But that feeling was canceled one spring evening. It had been a particularly difficult week at college after long hours in labs. I longed for home. When the bus reached the stop, I stepped off and dragged my suitcase to begin the long journey home.A row of hedge(树篱)edged the driveway that climbed the hill to our house. Once I had turned off the highway to start the last lap of my journey, I always had a sense of relief to see thehedge because it meant that I was almost home. On that particular evening, the hedge had just come into view when I saw something gray moving along the top of the hedge, moving toward the house. Upon closer observation, I real ized it was the top of my father’s head. Then I knew, each time I’d come home, he had stood behind the hedge, watching, until he knew I had arrived safely.I swallowed hard against the tears. He did care, after all.On later visits, that spot of gray became my watchtower. I could hardly wait until I was close enough to watch for its secret movement above the greenery. Upon reaching home, I would find my father sitting innocently in his chair. “So! My son, it’s you!” he’d say, his face lengthening into pretended surprise.I replied, “Yes, Dad, it’s me. I’m home.”21. What does the underlined word “grumbled” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?A. Accepted happily.B. Explained clearly.C. Agreed willingly.D. Spoke unhappily.22. What made the author feel upset was ______.A. the tiredness after long hours in labsB. the fear of seeing something movingC. the feeling of being less than valuedD. the loneliness of riding the bus home23. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. My Father’s Secret.B. My College Life.C. Terrible Journey Home.D. Riding Bus Alone.BI have been teaching animal behavior at the Boulder County Prison in Colorado for 10 years. The course is one of the most popular in the prison. Prisoners have to earn the right to attend the course and they work hard to get in.One reason why the course is so popular is that many prisoners find it easier to connect with animals than with people, because animals don’t judge them. They trust a nimals in ways they don’t with humans.Yet, they hold a misunderstanding of how animals treat one another. Many admit that their own “animal behavior” is what got them into trouble in the first place. I teach that though there is competition and aggression in the animal kingdom, there is also a lot of cooperation(合作)and sympathy. Many of the students want to build healthy relationships, and they find that the class helps them. I use examples of the social behavior of group-living animals such as wolves as a model for developing and maintaining(维持)friendships among people who must work together for their own good and also for the good of the group. It’s clear that science inspires the students here and it also gives them hope. I know some students have gone back into education after their being set free while others have gone to work for humane(人道)societies or contributed time and money to conservation organizations. One went on to receive a master’s degree in nature writing.Science and humane education help the prisoners connect with values that they otherwise would not have done. It opens the door to understanding, trust, cooperation and hope. There’s a large population of people to whom science could mean a lot, if only they could have access to it. The class helps me, too. I get as much out of it as the students and it has made me a better teacher.25. The author’s course is welcomed by the prisoners because ______.A. they consider animals their best friendsB. they are curious about animal kingdomC. they feel it easier to get along with animalsD. they are more familiar with animal behavior26.The author used wolves as an example to ______.A. provide the prisoners with more knowledgeB. explain the cruel side of group-living animalsC. help the prisoners realize the importance of teamworkD. inform the prisoners that animals get people into trouble27. We can infer from the text that some prisoners ______.A. have turned over a new leafB. are required to attend the courseC. are willing to learn working skillsD. prefer humane education to scienceCMelbourne, AustraliaMelbourne is a hot-spot travel destination, and it’s easy to see why with its beautiful beaches and busy city life. Why it’s a great choice: Australia as a whole is considered a safe destination for international travel, and because of that, many solo travelers go there. AEveryone, please imagine, a big explosion breaks out as the plane takes us high in the sky. The plane is full of smoke and the engine sounds scary. Two minutes later, the engines are turned off. We are now sitting in a plane with no sound. And we can see: Life is over. That really happened. In January 2009, I had a front-row seat on Flight 1549, the plane that crash-landed in the Hudson River in New York. Now let me tell you the three things I learned when the silence came.First, I thought about all the people I wanted to reach out to but didn’t. I thought about all the experiences I wanted to have but never did. I no longer wanted to put off anything in life. Second, I really regretted the time I wasted on things that did not matter. I decided to remove negative energy from my life. Third, I realized, wow, dying was not scary. But it was very sad just because I only wished I could have seen my kids grow up.Fortunately, I was given the gift of a miracle of not dying that day. I was given anothergift, with which I was to see into the future and come back and live differently.About a month later, my wife and I were at a performance by my daughter, not much artistic talent. Yet, I’m crying. I realized that above all, the only goal in my life was to be a good father.Audience, again, imagine the same thing happening on your plane. How would you change? What would you get done? And more than anything, are you being the best parent you can?Thank you.21. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. Air crash is always a tragedy.B. What I learned from the air crash.C. Life is a miracle as we imagine.D. How to become a good father.22. When does the idea “Life is over” come into being?A. Exactly during the explosion.B. When the plane was full of smoke.C. Before the engines sounded scary.D. When the engines were turned off.23. What is the author’s final goal in life?A. Never to put off anything in life.B. To remove negative energy from life.C. To see his daughter grow up.D. To be a good father.24. What type of writing is this text?A. A speech on one’s air travel experience.B. An emergency crash-landing guide.C. An introduction of an adventure novel.D. A safety training for air passengers.BIn 1975, George Carlin appeared on a popular TV show, Saturday Night Live, with his famous words about blue food. “Why is there no blue food? I can’t find blue food—I can’t find the flavor of blue! I mean yellow is lemon; orange is orange and red is cherry. Where is the blue food? ”Well, Carlin pretty much has it right—there’s not no blue food, but there’s certainly not a lot of it. Fresh-picked blueberries are blue, though they become purple when they are turnedinto jam. The blue in blueberries—like the purple in grapes and the red in tomatoes—is found in nature. But it isn’t a hot color for food. People don’t seem to prefer blue food. Some diet programs even suggest that those determined to lose weight should make their food blue.Eating, in part, begins with our eyes. Charles Spence—an experimental psychologist from Oxford University—points out that color can change our taste experience. Commonly, we consider red-colored foods up to 20% sweeter than they actually are; and green foods as being more sour. Spence suggests: human expectations may be influenced by our long history of watching - green fruits can become sweet as they grow up and turn red.But what about blue? Except blueberries, much of the blue food we see these days is dyed blue artificially. Food producers argue that artificial color doesn’t do much harm to health. A lot of research shows that some physical problems of kids are related to food dyes—while other studies show no effects at all. Blue birthday cake or even blue-dyed chicken can be served on the dinner table. So what?25. George Carlin’s words are placed at the beginning of the passage to _______.A. show the author’s opinionB. introduce a TV showC. tell a famous personD. lead in the topic26. Which of the following statements of blue is true?A. Blueberries are always blue, whether fresh or not.B. The blue in blueberries is found unnatural.C. Blue is not a very popular color for foods.D. People often feel cold when they eat blueberries.27. Eating sometimes begins with our eyes because _______.A. our taste experience can be influenced by colorB. red-colored food are 20% sweeter than green foodC. people prefer red-colored food to green foodD. before eating, people watch food for a long time28. The underlined words “is dyed” in Para. 4 are closest in meaning to “_______”.A. is eaten upB. has grown upC. is changed in colorD. is harmful toC29. Which of the following is true about the Jelly Belly Bean Company?A. Three meals are prepared for you.B. It lies to the north of San Francisco.C. You have to spend some money visiting it.D. It is open every day.30. If a five-year-old boy and his parents visit Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat Museum, theyhave to pay _______.A. $22B. $18C. $17D. $1331. The factory tour this summer involves _______.A. politics, economics, science and cultureB. history, literature, education and customC. diet, sports, traffic and artD. health, invention, astronomy and carDDoes handwriting matter? Not very much, according to many educators. However, scientists say it is far too soon to declare handwriting is not important. New evidence suggests that the link between handwriting and educational development is deep.Children not only learn to read more quickly when they first learn to write by hand, but they are also better able to create ideas and remember information. In other words, it’s not only what we write that matters — but how.A study led by Karin James, a psychologist at Indiana University, gave support to that view. A group of children, who had not learned to read and write, were offered a letter or a shape on a card and asked to copy it in one of three ways: draw the image on a page but with a dotted outline(虚线), draw it on a piece of blank white paper, or type it on a computer. Then the researchers put the children in a brain scanner and showed them the image again. It was found that when children had drawn a letter freehand without a dotted outline or a computer, the activity in three areas of the brain were increased. These three areas work actively in adults when they read and write. By contrast, children who chose the other two ways showed no such effect. Dr. James attributes the differences to the process of free handwriting: Not only must we first plan and take action in a way but we are also likely to produce a result that is variable. Those are not necessary when we have an outline. It’s time for educators to change their mind and pay more attention to children’s handwriting.32. What do scientists mean by saying “it is far too soon to declare handwriting is notimportant”?A. Handwriting is not very important to children.B. Handwriting has nothing to do with education.C. Handwriting should not be ignored at present.D. Handwriting can not be learned in a short time.33. What does “that view” in Para. 3 refer to?A. Children read quickly when they write by hand.B. How we write is as important as what we write.C. Children create ideas and remember information.D. A group of students should know what to write.34. Which is NOT the children’s task in the experiment?A. Copy the image on a page but with a dotted outline.B. Draw the image on a piece of blank white paper.C. Type the image directly on a computer.D. Put a brain scanner and show the image again.35. According to the passage, the author obviously _______ giving up handwriting.A. is forB. is againstC. is responsible forD. doesn’t care about第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AFinally, I entered the university. Because of my careful savings, I did not have to work during the school year. Then, summer came and it was time to work harder than ever. I continued working as a waitress at night, instructed tennis camps several mornings a week and worked as a secretary for a few hours in the afternoons. I even decided to take a class at a community (社区) college. This class at the community college saved me $650. It was an extremely tiring summer and made me anxious to return to my relatively easy life at the university.During my second and third years of undergraduate schooling, I decided to work about five hours per week in the campus (校园) admissions office answering phones. This provided a little spending money and kept me from drawing my savings out. I wanted to go to Israel to study for 3 weeks, but I hesitated in making this decision because it would cost me $1,600 more to get the credits in Israel. About two weeks later my Mom called to tell me that I had $1,600 in the bank that I had forgotten about! One of my concerns about this trip was not only the cost, but the loss of time to make money; however, I made as much that summer in the ten weeks when I was at home as I had made during the fourteen weeks when I was at home the summer before. The way everything worked together to make this trip possible was one of the most exciting things that have ever happened to me.This experience has shaped me in many important ways. The first thing that I learned was the importance of a strong work ethic (伦理). Working long hours did a lot to develop my character and helped me learn the value of a dollar. It also made me learn how to search for creative ways to settle difficult situations.21. Where did the writer probably work part-time before attending the university?A. In a restaurant.B. You can have photos taken with your classmates and teachers, or dine out together and exchange gifts.High school students in Western countries such as the United States and Canada usually have a prom to mark their graduation. It’s to mark the time kids turn into young men and women. After the prom, teenagers either go to college or find a job. It means they are no longer as dependent on their parents as they were before. At the prom, boys usually dress in dinner jackets and bow ties, though many different types of formal clothes are worn. Traditionally, girls give boys matching boutonnieres (a small collection of flowers they pin to their jackets). Girls traditionally wear formal dresses, or dress to shock or be noticed, in shiny or brightly colored materials.Common prom activities include dining, dancing, the crowning (加冠) of a prom king and queen, and just talking to friends. In some cases, high school students collect funds for their class prom through the four years of their high school.High schools in or near large cities may rent ballrooms at expensive hotels or, to be unusual, on a pleasure cruise boat. But often costs are cut by simply using the school gym. Students make a lot of effort to decorate the gym to make the event special. The music played at the prom will be the most popular kinds, like rock and hip-hop.The students elect the Prom Queen. She is partnered with a Prom King who is elected similarly. These are great honors that the pair take very seriously. The two dance with each other to celebrate their election.Sometimes teachers and parents also go to the prom. But there are three Nobel prize-winning scientists who actually chose to experiment on themselves – all in the name of science, reported The Telegraph.1. Werner Forssmann (Nobel prize winner in 1956)Forssmann was a German scientist. He studied how to put a pipe inside the heart to measure the pressure inside and decide whether a patient needs surgery.Experiments had been done on horses before, so he wanted to try with human patients. But it was not permitted because the experiment was considered too dangerous. Not giving up, Forssmann decided to experiment on himself. He anaesthetized (麻醉) his own arm and made a cut, putting the pipe 30 centimeters into his vein (静脉). He then climbed two floors to the X-ray room before pushing the pipe all the way into his heart.2. Barry Marshall (Nobel prize winner in 2005)Most doctors in the mid-20th century believed that gastritis was down to stress, spicy food or an unusually large amount of stomach acid. But in 1979 an Australian scientist named Robin Warren found that the disease might be related to a bacteria (细菌) called Helicobacter pylori. So he teamed up with his colleague, Barry Marshall, to continue the study. When their request to experiment on patients was denied, Marshall bravely drank some of the bacteria.Five days later, he lost his appetite and soon was vomiting each morning –he indeed had gastritis.3. Ralph Steinman (Nobel prize winner in 2011)This Canadian scientist discovered a new type of immune system cell called the dendritic cell. He believed that it had the ability to fight against cancer.Steinman knew he couldn’t yet use his method to treat patients. So in 2007, when doctors told him that he had cancer and that it was unlikely for him to live longer than a year, he saw an opportunity. With the help of his colleagues, he gave himself three different vaccines based on his research and a total of eight experimental therapies (疗法).
