how to improve the listening

Hard work counts,
只有说和写才能真正地做到:make a direct profit! 因为只有这两者是output.(只进无出,那叫闷骚!)而写的过程中,拼写这个问题困绕了太多人。
英语单词拼错,就像中文写白字那样,是一种写作者自身修养还未到家的体现!◆何谓我认识这个单词(e.g: exaggerate)?第一,是音。
我听到别人读exaggerate,我明白这是夸张的意思。
这就引出了第二点,意。
第三点,是形。
也就是说我看到这个词,我知道她表达的意思是夸张这个concept。

how-to-improve-listening-skills
How to improve listening skillsⅠ.IntroductionListening plays a fundamental role in foreign language acquisition .Among the four basic skills in English learning. listening is the basic, and the most important skill. Listening comprehension is the essential parts in nowadays various proficiency tests, no matter English or the other language. But it is also the most difficult of all the learning skills for learners to master. When listening, listeners follow the speaker, thinking about what the speaker is saying and what is going on in the mind of the speaker, guessing the speaker’s opinions and attitudes and catching the true meaning of the speaker’s words. Listening itself accounts foral most half of the commutative activities in one’s daily life.Ⅱ. Factors influencing students’ listening abilityAttitudeFor a long time, as for students, the final aim of learning a subject is to take exams, get high marks. Hence, during the English teaching process, teachers spend much time showing their students how to master grammar and how to improve reading and writing skills in a class. Listening plays a supporting role and is not paid attention to by teachers.Poor methodThe task of language teachers includes not only teaching thelanguage but also teaching the skill to learn a language. To learnEnglish well, teachers need to develop students' listening skill. But teachers always regard listening as listening exam. They neglect their students 'level of knowledge capabilities, and don't attach importance to feedback from students. These indirectly result in not ideal teaching effectiveness. On the other hand teaching listening skills is one of the most difficult tasks for an English successful listening teacher. It is frustrating for teacher because there are no rules as in grammar teaching.Barriers on pronunciation and intonation.English usually appears some problems exactly on Phonetics and Phonology, such as the mistakes on pronunciation and intonation. Therefore some basic knowledge about English Phonetics and Phonology will directly influence students’ listening comprehensionProblems on vocabulary and grammar.Vocabulary is the building materials of languages, so students must master enough vocabularies if they want to improve their listening ability. However, in china, many middle school students do not have abundant vocabulary. So, when they hear unfamiliar words in listening, they become nervous and ponder the word.Grammar plays an important part in the analysis of written sentence structure and sentence pattern. However, in china many students also lack of systematic grammar knowledge. Some bad listening habitsWhen do listening comprehension, students always try their best to get the meaning of each words, and each sentences. Once they meet a new word or a difficulty sentence, they will stop to think. It is doubtless they can’t catch up with the speed any more. In fact, it is unnecessary to know every word, every sentence; they should only catch the main idea and grasp the major point.Ⅲ. Approaches to Improve Listening SkillsFirstly, In order to improve the students’ pronunciation, the students can do more exercise s. At the beginning of the listening training, the students should learn something about connecting reading, weak reading, lost tone and stress shifting, and pay more attention to the pronunciation and intonation, so that they can overcome the barriers in the English listening. For example, to distinguish the difference between two minimal pairs, or to identify whether the two sounds are the same.Secondly, Word is the basic of language. Students must master a lot of vocabularies in speaking, listening reading, or writing. If students do not have enough vocabulary storage, they will be nervous when come across some unfamiliar words or phrases, which will affect students' overall understanding of the listening material. So they must owe rich vocabulary. They should learn and remember vocabulary in their daily time. Reading is a good way to accumulate vocabulary. Watching English programs is another effective way to increase students' vocabulary. And then, as we all know, grammar also plays an important part in listening. The students must never neglect grammar teaching. Grammar can not only help them to analyze sentence structure and pattern, but also help them to understand the whole material. The purpose of recognition of the sentence pattern and capture of the key information is to understand themeaning of the speaker’s utterance. So students have to have a good command of the knowledge of grammar in order to improve his listening comprehension.Last but not least, to improve English listening, students should have indomitable willpower and perseverance spirit to do more listening. Dictation is a positive and effective way of listening training. Except for dictation, students also can watch English movie or listen to English songs. English movies and songs are wonderful and useful listening materials. The improvement of listening capable is practice. Practice makes a changing process that quantitative from to qualitative. As long as listen, and fascinated to it, students will understand the meaning of the entire context. Only insist to listen, they will master many listening skills and do a good job in listening The listening comprehension process is also a relatively complex psychological process. In psychology, it is stated that when a person feels nervous or anxious he or she may experience the feeling of being terrified. When one is terrified his or her ability to listen is greatly reduced. In addition, the external surroundings can also interfere with listening. For instance, the listening effect in the classroom or the language lab is different from in the open air classroom. So, it is very important for the students to have a good state while listening. Students should get clear that listening is the first step of any language learning, they should try their best to learn it well at the very beginning.V. Conclusion"We were given two ears but only one mouth, because listening is twice as hard as talking." Though listening is rather difficult for us, we have a series of ways to get over it. Therefore, this is a long journey. This paper analyses some reasons that cause students weak ability in listening and explores some possible and effective solutions to solve the issues. It relates both teachers 'teaching and students ‘learning. They should combine listening with other English skills. What's more, teachers must fos ter students ‘interests and motivation of listening. Students should come over scare psychology and set up self-confidence. At the same time, they should enrich their vocabularies. Students need to do more training and master some listening skills. It is an enduring and formidable subject matter to improve the English listening ability. Teachers and students must struggle tirelessly in the future. The theory goes along with the practice. We should apply to those approaches to real listening teaching and learning process.1.Once or twice a week. I enjoy watching nba my favourite team is heatsSports help people to live happily. 对提高中问听力水平建议英语作文全文共5篇示例,供读者参考篇1Listening Is Super Important!Hey friends! Today I want to talk about something that's really, really important for learning English - listening skills! You might be wondering, "Why is listening so important?" Well, let me tell you! When you listen to people speaking English, you get to hear all the different sounds, rhythms, and intonations. It's like music for your ears! And just like you need to train your body to play a sport or instrument, you need to train your ears and brain to understand spoken English. The more you practice listening, the easier it will become. But listening isn't just about understanding the words people say. It's also about catching the meaning behind their words, their emotions, and their intentions. When you listen closely, you can learn so much more than just vocabulary! So how can you improve your listening skills? I've got some awesome tips to share with you!Tip #1: Watch movies and TV shows in English! This is one of my favorite ways to practice. You get to be entertained while also training your ears. Look for shows or movies with subtitles in English so you can read along as you listen. This will help connect the words you hear with the words you see.Tip #2: Listen to English songs and podcasts! Music and stories are fun ways to soak in the language. As you listen, try to sing along or repeat what you hear. You can even look up lyrics or transcripts online to follow along.Tip #3: Have conversations in English! Talking with friends, family members, or teachers who speak English is great practice. Don't be afraid to ask them to repeat things or speak a bit slower if you're having trouble understanding. The more you engage in back-and-forth conversations, the better your listening comprehension will become.Tip #4: Take notes while you listen. Having a pen and paper handy can help you write down key words or phrases you catch. This will keep you focused and reinforce what you're hearing. It's like exercising your listening muscle!Tip #5: Be an active listener. This means pushing yourself to not just hear the words, but to concentrate on understanding their meaning. Ask yourself questions as you listen, like "What isthe main idea?" or "How does the speaker feel about this topic?" Active listening takes practice, but it's an awesome skill to develop.Tip #6: Don't get discouraged! Improving your listening skills takes time and effort. There will be days when you feel like you're not making any progress, but that's okay! Every minute you spend listening is helping your brain get stronger. Just keep at it and believe in yourself.Following these tips can seem like a lot of work, but trust me, it's worth it! The more you practice listening, the more confident you'll feel in your English abilities. You'll understand conversations better, learn new expressions more easily, and have an easier time communicating overall.Plus, strong listening comprehension can help in other areas too, like reading and writing. When you understand how the language flows and connects, putting sentences together becomes much simpler. So keep working on those listening muscles, friends! It might feel challenging at first, but pretty soon, you'll be an English listening superstar. Just take it one conversation, one song, one podcast at a time. You've got this!Remember, practice makes progress. The more you listen, the more you'll understand. Before you know it, English will sound as natural as your language at home. So put on your favorite movie, turn on that podcast, and let those English sounds sink right into your brilliant mind!篇2Improving Your English Listening SkillsHi there! My name is Emma and I'm a 4th grade student. I've been learning English for a few years now and I have to say, listening is one of the hardest skills to master. It's so easy to miss what someone is saying, especially if they talk fast or have an accent. But don't worry, I've got some super helpful tips that have worked really well for me! Are you ready to become a listening master? Let's go!First up, listen, listen, listen! The more English you listen to, the easier it will become to understand. Whenever you can, turn on an English TV show, movie, podcast, audiobook or song and really focus. In the beginning, you might only catch a few words here and there and that's okay. The important thing is getting your brain used to the sounds and rhythms of English speech.Next, don't be afraid to rewind and relisten as many times as you need to. That's one of the best things about audio and video - you can keep rewinding until it clicks! When I'm studying, I'll often listen to the same clip 5 or 6 times until I understand every single word. It might seem like a lot of work at first but trust me, it gets easier the more you do it.Another really good strategy is to listen without looking at the subtitles or transcript at first. After giving it your best shot, you can then look at the text to fill in anything you missed. This helps reinforce what you understood aurally while also clearing up misunderstandings. Just be sure to listen first before peeking! For extra listening practice, narrate your day to yourself in English. As you're eating breakfast, walking to school, or playing outside, describe aloud what you're doing and seeing around you using full sentences. It might feel silly at first but getting used to producing English out loud will make a huge difference when it comes time to listen.Finding listening materials suited to your level is also key. If an audio is too hard, you'll quickly get frustrated and discouraged. But if it's too easy, you won't be challenging yourself enough to improve. A good rule of thumb is to choose materials where you can understand 60-70% of what's being saidwithout any text to help. Any lower than that and it's probably too advanced for now.My personal favorite English listening activity is watching movies and shows made for kids my age. The language is simpler but still natural, plus they tell fun stories I can actually get into and enjoy. If a character says something I don't follow, I'll hit pause and repeat that line over and over until I've got it.When all else fails, don't be shy to ask the speaker for clarification or to rephrase what they said. As an English learner, you have every right to make sure you comprehend. Most people will be happy to repeat themselves, rephrase using simpler words, or speak a bit slower if you let them know you're still working on understanding.Listening skills are super important but they're also super tough, even for us kids. I still have plenty of room for improvement myself! The key is mixing up different listening activities and sticking with it through all the confusing parts. Your ears and brain will eventually adjust - you just have to be patient and keep those headphones on!Does improving my listening seem a little less scary now? I hope these tips give you a great head start on the road to becoming a true English listening pro! Let me know if any of mysuggestions work especially well for you. Don't give up - you've got this! Thanks for reading, guys!篇3How to Get Better at Listening to EnglishHi there! My name is Jamie and I'm going to tell you all about how to improve your English listening skills. Listening is super important if you want to understand people when they speak English. At first it can feel really hard, but if you practice the right way, you'll get a lot better at it. Here are my best tips!Tip #1: Listen to Things You EnjoyThe number one most important tip is to listen to things that you actually like. If you try to just listen to boring stuff you don't care about, you'll get bored and give up really fast. But if you listen to awesome movies, TV shows, YouTube videos, music, or anything else you think is cool and fun, you'll keep doing it because you're enjoying it!For example, I'm obsessed with this cartoon called Bluey that my little sister watches. I've watched every single episode like a million times. At first I could barely understand what the characters were saying because they talk with Australian accents. But after watching it over and over, my brain got used to how they talk and now I understand almost everything!Tip #2: Watch With Subtitles (But Not Too Much!)Using subtitles or captions when you're starting out can be really helpful. That way if you miss what someone said or can't quite make it out, you can quickly read it. The subtitles let you follow along without getting completely lost. But here's an important trick - you don't want to rely on the subtitles too much! If you just read along with them the whole time without really listening, you're not giving your ears and brain good practice. So maybe watch one episode or part of a video using subtitles to get the general idea. Then watch it again without subtitles and see how much you can understand through listening only. It's a great way to challenge yourself!Tip #3: Listen and Do Something Else at the Same TimeThis one might sound a little weird, but it can really work! When you only listen without doing anything else, it's easy to start zoning out or losing focus. That's why I like to listen to English audio while also doing some other activity that keeps me engaged. Some things you could try are coloring or drawing while you listen, solving puzzles or brain teasers, building with Legos, or even just taking a walk outside. Keeping your body a little bit active helps your brain stay more alert and attentive to the listening. Just make sure the other activity isn't too hard or distracting - you want to still be focused mainly on comprehending the English.Tip #4: Don't Panic if You Miss StuffWhen you're starting to really listen to native English for the first time, there's going to be a LOT that you simply don't understand. You'll hear words, phrases, expressions, idioms and slang that just sound like total gibberish. That's 100% normal and okay! The more listening practice you get, the more those weird things will start to click into place. My advice is to not panic or get discouraged when you miss big chunks of audio. Just let it go and keep listening for the parts you do pick up. Over time, those unclear spots will get smaller and smaller until your comprehension is almost full. Freaking out will only make you shut down and stop making progress.Tip #5: Have Conversations TooWhile listening to audio is awesome practice, you also need to practice having real live conversations in English. It's a different skill to understand people talking right in front of you rather than through speakers or headphones. Their voices will sound a bit different, you'll pick up on body language, and you might need to ask for clarification sometimes.A great way to get this practice is to make friends with people learning English from other countries. You can take turns doing conversation practice and giving each other feedback. Or try joining a conversation club or meetup group in your area. The more you have back-and-forth dialogues, the better your functional listening comprehension will become.Tip #6: Take Breaks When You Need ToMy final tip is to take breaks when your brain feels totally fried from all the listening work. Like anything else, you need to balance your practice with rest periods. If you try to push through when you're already exhausted and drained, you'll just get frustrated and start zoning out again. When you feel that burnout starting to kick in, give yourself a little break. Do something completely different to rest your ears and mind. Then you can come back to your English listening feeling refreshed and recharged to keep building those skills. So those are my top tips for how to improve at understanding spoken English! The most important things are to practice listening to content you enjoy, use subtitles in a balanced way, keep your brain engaged, expect to miss things sometimes, get conversation practice, and rest when needed. If you stick with it using these strategies, I'm telling you - your listening skills are going to skyrocket! Let me know if you have any other questions.篇4Title: How to Be a Great English ListenerHi friends! Today I want to share some tips for getting better at listening to English. Listening is super important for learning any language. If you can't understand what people are saying, it's really hard to communicate! The first thing I always tell my friends is to listen, listen, listen as much as you can! The more English you hear, the easier it will get. But just listening isn't enough - you have to listen actively and try hard to understand. One way to practice active listening is to watch movies, TV shows, or videos in English. It's better if you can find ones meant for kids your age at first. The language will be simpler and easierto follow. Don't just get distracted by the pictures though! Really focus and try to understand what the characters are saying without reading the subtitles. If it's too hard at first, you can turn on English subtitles. Read along carefully as you listen. Pause the video if you need to. Look up words you don't know. Pretty soon, you'll be able to follow more and more without the subtitles!Another useful tip is to listen to songs in English. Songs are great because the words are repeated over and over again in a rhythmic way. After a few listens, you'll start picking up the lyrics. Sing and dance along for extra fun!Podcasts made for English learners are also an awesome listening resource. You can find tons of them for free online. The hosts speak nice and clearly at a level made for learners. Some even come with transcripts so you can read along. When you're just starting out though, don't worry if you don't understand everything you hear. The most important thing is to keep exposing your ears to lots of English. Even if it feels like word soup at first, your brain is getting trained to recognize sounds, rhythms and patterns. As you get more practice, start spending less time translating word-for-word in your head, and more time just trying to get the overall meaning and main idea. But if you really get stuck on a section, don't be afraid to rewind and re-listen carefully until it clicks.Getting conversation practice is key too. Havingback-and-forth exchanges is one of the hardest things for listeners because you have to comprehend and respond inreal-time. But the more you work at it, the better you'll get.Ask your parents or English tutors to have regular conversations with you only in English. If it's too fast in the beginning, politely ask them to slow down or rephrase things. They can also help you by giving context, using gestures, and avoiding slang.Another idea is to form a English conversation club with friends who are also learning. You can take turns asking each other questions or telling stories. Have fun, be patient, and don't worry about perfect grammar as you practice listening and speaking.Outside of class, try to find native English speakers to chat with. Maybe there are students from an English-speaking country at your school that you could befriend. Or perhaps youcould be digital pen pals with someone online. Just get that real-world listening practice however you can. When you are listening, be an active detective! Listen carefully for context clues about what is being discussed. Are there any cognates or words that sound similar to your own language that could give you hints? Pay attention to the tone, facial expressions and body language too for extra meaning. It's also helpful to pick up on conversational markers people use in English. Words like "so," "well," "actually," etc. can signal when someone is going to make an important point or disagreement. Listening for filler words like "ummm" and "uhhhh" can prepare you for when a person is stalling to think of what to say next.If you still can't quite get what someone says, don't be afraid to ask follow-up questions like "Could you repeat that please?" or "What does ____ mean?" Clarifying is a natural part of communication, not just for language learners! Here's a super important tip: Don't get discouraged if listening feels really hard at first. It's normal! Even babies born into English speaking homes have to spend over a year just getting used to listening before they can start producing words themselves. Be patient, and trust that it will get easier over time.Just keep swimming in the English language river every day, listening with focus and an open mind. Before you know it, what once sounded like gibberish will start to sound like words, then sentences, and finally entire conversations that you can understand easily. It takes a lot of practice, but I know you can become an excellent English listener if you stick with it. Listening is such a valuable skill that will open up so many opportunities for you. You've got this! Let's get listening.篇5Listening is Super Important for Learning English!Hi everyone! My name is Jamie and I'm a 4th grader who loves learning English. English is a lot of fun but it can be really hard sometimes, especially the listening part. I used to have a really tough time understanding when my teachers or friends spoke English. But over the years I've learned some great tips and tricks that have helped me get much better at listening. I want to share them with you today! The first big thing that helped me was realizing that listening isn't just about your ears. It's about using your whole body and brain! Good listeners have to concentrate really hard and payclose attention. Whenever I'm trying to listen carefully, I make sure to sit up straight, look at the person talking, and focus all my energy on understanding them. It also helps to repeat things in my head as I hear them.Another important part of listening is learning to be patient. When I first started learning English, I would get frustrated if I didn't understand something right away. But then I realized that not everyone speaks perfectly clearly all the time. Sometimes you have to wait patiently, concentrate, and let the meaning become clear little by little. It's like putting together a puzzle!Becoming a great listener also takes a lot of practice. The more English I listened to, the easier it became. I started watching TV shows and movies in English. I also loved listening to songs and reading along with the lyrics. Anything you can do to hear more English is great practice. Just keep listening! It also really helps to learn some strategies for when you get stuck or don't understand something. One thing I do is listen for context clues. For example, if I miss what someone says but I hear the word "banana" I know they're probably talking about a fruit. Paying attention to body language and facial expressions also gives you helpful clues.Another trick is to not panic if you miss a word or two. I try to catch the overall meaning instead of getting hung up on every single word. And if I'm really struggling, I always ask the person to repeat themselves slowly or rephrase what they said. There's no shame in needing some extra help sometimes.Learning lots of vocabulary is super important for listening too. The more words you know, the easier it will be to piece together the meanings of sentences. Whenever I come across a new English word, I make sure to write it down, look up the definition, and practice using it. Having a big vocabulary makes a huge difference. Finally, the best advice I can give is to not get discouraged! Listening is one of the hardest parts of learning a new language. It takes a lot of time and effort to get good at it. But if you stay positive and keep practicing, you'll definitely see improvement. Just think how amazing it will feel when you can understand English conversations easily! All the hard work will be worth it.Well, those are my top tips for becoming an awesome English listener. Keep using strategies like concentrating, being patient, getting lots of practice, using context clues, asking for help, learning vocabulary, and most of all, never giving up! Listening will be tough at first but I know you can master it.We're all in this together! Let's get out there and listen to some English!。

About 71.2% of the students think that the most bot hering and most difficult is listening comprehension, and even some of them have diff iculty in understanding their teacher who gives lessons in English.Listening comprehension is a complex activity. It requires students to use their phonetics, vocabulary, grammar and background knowledge, so most students have many difficulties in listening comprehension. Many learners are afraid of listening, looking on it as more difficult than any other skills and pay more attention to training their ability to speak, read and write. At the same time, listening is often ignored by both teachers and students. What cause the students’ poor listening? In my opinion, these are the following factors:Objective cause:in rural middle school, we often use chalks, a blackboard and a tape to teach. We hardly have any modern teaching tools such as multi-medium. And there are different cultures between Chinese and westerners. The students know little about it.Subjective cause: the students are not interested in English .They think listening is unimportant. They pay less attention to it.Project objectivesTo arouse the students’ interest in listening learning. To correct the students’ bad habits in listening lear ning.To improve the students’ listening skills. Make they catch the key words and understand the main idea of the listening material.Project hypothesisI think students must be interested in them by playing the English songs and movies. They will like English, even like listening learning. The students always try their best to get the meaning of each word, each sentence .So tell the students the best way to listen to the tape and practice several times .The students will be easier to understand the main idea than before. The students not only remember the words of the textbook but also remember some words in other articles. If they do this, they will get over the difficult words they meet while they are listening. After class, they read English magazines and newspaper in order to enhance their knowledge about English cultural background.Project RationaleListening comprehension can be affected by various factors which include students’ basic ability, Chinese interference, listening strategies, background knowledge, and psychosocial factors. There are also other obstacles such as some new words, new sentence patterns, new grammar, or connecting and weak reading, lost tone and stress shifting in the listening material. All those will make the listener felldifficult to not understand the meaning of the material.Basic abilityPhonetics and phonology factor―According to an American scholar, Rita Wong, phonetics is crucial in listening comprehension. This is because sound is the direct medium of listening and speaking. Only by using correct sound, can we express our views and ideas accurately. Similarly, it is inevitably that poor pronunciation will cause aural difficulties in smooth acceptance of others’ ideas expressed in correct pronunciation.‖(马占祥, 2002:96) For example: the pronunciation is not accurate, especially for similar words. Such as: jeep-sheep; beat—bit; count—can’t; here—hair; much—March; quite—quiet; kitchen—chicken; mouth—mouse.V ocabulary factorDuring the process of listening comprehension, listeners should not only do the exercises of sound recognition, but also learn more vocabulary. Vocabulary is the building materials of languages, so students must master enough vocabularies if they want to improve their listening ability.Grammar factorGrammar plays an important part in the analysis of written sentence structure and sentence pattern. The purpose of the analysis is to comprehend the whole passage. The same is true of listening comprehension of sentence. Systematic grammar knowledge is like a strong frame of a building, it can help students to catch the implication of vocal sounds, and understand them well, and it also can tell students the tense, voice and mood. Let’s take an example: I should have studied last semester. If a learner well knows the function of the subjunctive mood, he or she can easily decode the implication of the speaker: he or she should study last semester, but he or she did not.Chinese interference―Still some students cannot directly understand English ma terials; they are used to translating English into Chinese while listening‖(池涌,2004:44). The students can not use English to think. When they hear the information which is transferred byEnglish, most students would translate the information into Chinese, and then understand the information, but during listening time is limited, they will miss a lot of information.Listening habitsDuring the listening process, the students should understand the general idea of the materials, and try to catch the major content, which is the key point. But many Chinese students have some bad habits while listening. The students always try their best to get the meaning of each words, each sentences. Sometimes when they meet a new word or a difficulty sentence, they will stop to think, then they can not catch up with the speed any more. Actually, it is unnecessary to know every word, every sentence, only should catch the main idea and grasp the major point, which is enough. Background knowledgeThe background knowledge is indispensable in listening comprehension. ―Language is a kind of cultu ral expression. It is very necessary for students to know some background about English countries, such as the history, culture, customs and habits, even life styles‖ (戴炜栋何兆熊,2002:28). Language is a kind of cultural expression. The relationship between language and culture is very close, and different countries have different cultures. It is necessary for students to know some background knowledge about the English countries.Psychological factorsListener’s listening ability is also influenced by psycholo gical factors. During listening, the listener may meet some words or sentences they do not know, it will make them feel very nervous. ―Anxiety has a negative effect on listening comprehension‖(闫美英, 2001: 69). Some students say that as soon as the listening is played, they become worried and afraid, even feel that they have nothing in minds. Some students are too eager to get high marks, but they are afraid that they can’t follow the exam content and listening speed, so they are over worried. As a result, they seem to have nothing in mind, and then they fail to catch the information which they need.Project DesignPeriod1-2Activity: development of interest and Triumph of psychology barriers. Objective: arouse the students’ interest and get over the psychology barriers. Only in this way, students can be interested in listening. At first, I played an easy English song and write the lyrics on the blackboard. I asked my students to hum the song along the music. I found most of them clapped their hands and hummed. But still several students such as Wen Zhichao and Hu Chuanshuo kept silent and didn’t give any sign of understanding. So I asked them to work in pairs and one student teach the other how to sing in English ,and then take the turn. In this way Wen Zhichao and Hushuo began to sing in English. That’s great, they began to op en their mouths and show a little interest in English because they were laughing after they had had their turn. Then I played an English movie in spare time. Student took an great interest in it. Some of them tried repeating the words the person said in the movie. So that was the ready for the listening learning. The teacher should help their students to realize that although listening is very difficult, but it is the first step of any language learning. It is very important for students to have a good psychological state while listening. So teachers should help their students to build up confidence to overcome the difficult, and never give up. In traditional English class, teachers and students pay much attention to grammar, and many students are unwilling to open their mouths to speak English. They feel nervous and are afraid of making mistakes. All these factors hinder students’ listening comprehension. The teacher should combine speaking and listening together, encourage the students to speak out. Students will get good marks if they listen to the listening materials in a relaxed and pleasant mood. To arouse student’s interest in English, the teacher can choose some interesting materials for students to listen to, and the materials cannot be too difficult, or they will easily frustrate students’ confidence. So according to the material, we can complement some questions and use the forms of‖ ask and answer‖, retelling, reviewing to give more chances for studentso state their own opinions. In this way, not only can we encourage students to listen enthusiastically, but also can improve their spoken English. To make the teaching contents colorful and authentic. Teachers can use English songs or movies as an auxiliary method to arouse students’ interest in list ening. The teacher can also set some brainstorm questions which students are interested to discuss before listening, which will arouse their great interest in the topic. Students will try their best to state their own opinions. It is a good method to draw students’ attention to the listening text and also a good way to activate the atmosphere of the classroom.Pronunciation trainingIn order to improve the students’ pronunciation, the teacher should ask students to do more exercise. At the beginning of the listening training, teachers must introduce something about connecting reading, weak reading, lost tone and stress shifting, and pay more attention to the pronunciation and intonation, so that students can overcome the barriers in the English listening. For example, let them distinguish the difference between two minimal pairs, or to identify whether the two sounds are the same. Such as sixteen - sixty, cool – cold, nice – knife and so on. When I played the tape for the first time, many students confused when they heard them. They hardly wrote down correctly. I tried to play it again and again; finally, more than90% of them could write down all the words that they heard correctly. They looked glad because of successful.Enhancement of students’ vocabularies and grammar knowledgeV ocabularyV ocabulary is the foundation of a language. Listeners must have enough vocabulary for their improvement in listening because vocabulary affects listening directly. If students do not have enough vocabulary, when they come across some unfamiliar words or phrases they will feel nervous and miss some information, which will affect students’ global understanding of the listening text. Therefore, students must try every method to increase their vocabulary. To acquire a large vocabulary the students should accumulate every word they have learnt. Even if some students’ vocabulary is large enough, they can still come across new words. They must continuelistening, and try to use both linguistic and non-linguistic knowledge or cues which they can get in further listening to infer the information. In the past, students remembered the new words by the vocabulary list. In this way, it’s difficult to remember the words and forget them easily. Therefore, I explored new ways to teach students vocabularies and made students interested in memorizing words. For example, ask students to learn some words by heart through sentences, which helps students to remember the meaning of the words and its morphological features and usage in a concrete language background. For example, when I taught ―used to‖,―concentrate on ―,I let the students remember them in these sentences:―I used to be afraid of the dark‖―Our teachers believe that if we did that, we would concentrate more on our clothes than our studies.‖Because of this way to remember the new words, students made a great progress on remembering the words. They didn’t make sentences freely before, but after using this method to remember, students could make sentences with the words more easily than before.GrammarGrammar plays an important part in listening. Grammar can help the students to analyze sentence structure and pattern, and help them to understand the whole material. The purpose of recognition of the sentence pattern and capture of the key information is to understand the meaning of the speaker’s utterance. So students have to have a good command of the knowledge of grammar in order to improve their listening comprehension. In this part, I explained the differences among the different tenses. The present continuous tenseThe past Continuous TenseThe Present Perfect TenseThe Past Perfect TenseThe present perfect continuous tenseI showed them their structures and usages. And I gave them some excise to practice:1 What are you doing?I am watching (watch) TV.2 He was doing (do) his homework when the UFO arrived.3 Xu Mengru has learnt (learn) 1,000 words so far.4 The bus had already left when he got to the station.5 I have been collecting the shells for six years.Extension of students’ cultural background know ledgeThe teacher should encourage students to touch English as much as possible, such as reading some English newspapers, magazines and original novels, which contain a lot of information of English-speaking countries. The more students read, the more knowledge they know. I let students make full use of the English movies or TV programs to gain some background knowledge. All these aim at making students familiar with those English speaking culture and traditions besides what have been explained in the classroom. I think students who know more about western courtiers’ culture must do better than students who know little about western courtiers’ culture in listening comprehension. So students must read widely, enlarge common knowledge and pay attention to the currents and newest achievements of scientific culture.I found that students were interested in them. For example, different table manners between the Chinese and the westerners. We often use chopsticks to fetch the food, but in western countries, people use knives and forks.Listening practiceThis part contains four sets of listening practice. We should notice the following things before listening.1 Pre—listening activitiesFirst, the teacher can help their students become better predictor. If there is a picture with the listening passage, the students can be asked to predict what the passage will contain before they listen. If there is no picture, perhaps the teacher can find and draw a picture that fits the text. Second, the teacher should help the student to listen for the gist. The key is to ask students one or two questions that focus on mainidea or the tone or mood of the whole passage. Notice that students can answer the gist question even though they do not understand every word or phrase in the passage. Then, let students listening for specific information.2 While-listening activitiesIf the teacher provides a reason, goal, or task for the learner, this can encourage and help the listener to focus. In order to draw students’ attention, the tea cher can let students do some activities, such as listen and trick, listen and sequence, listen and act, listen and draw, listen and fill, listen and take notes.3 Post-listening activitiesPost--- listening, teachers can determine how well the students have understood what they listened to, but it is important to design the tasks well. ―One important point to keep in mind is whether we are testing the students’ listening comprehension or their memory. In fact, in real life, listener can remember the gist of the conversation, but cannot remember exactly what words were said. It is more natural to select and interpret what we hear rather than repeat everything we have heard Here are some types of post-listening activity, answering questions, note-taking, gap-filling and dictation.I gave the students four sets of papers. Each paper contained three parts. Part 1 was easy. That was to choose the correct answers according to the pictures.part2 were to choose the best answer according to the short dialogue. Part 3 was to listen a short passage and then wrote ―true‖ or ―false‖, this part was a little difficult for students to understand the main idea of the passage. When they did part 1, they wrote the answers quickly. They felt relaxed. Almost all the students did this part in the right way. When they did part 2, students felt a little difficulty because of the short dialogue. Sometimes they were afraid to choose the best answer. So it requires students to listen carefully and caught the key information. They should also understand what the question was in each dialogue. Just to do this, they would choose the best answers. When they did part 3, I found they couldn’t do each statement correctly. This part was very difficult for them. I plan to practice it frequently in the future.Date AnalysisProject EvaluationAs I expect, almost all the students make progress on the listening learning. I think the result is successful. These following statements are why it is a successful project. The helpful direction of the tutor.I had prepared enough before carrying out the project. The practice is based on the theory basis. My elder sister offers me some useful information. The student actively cooperated with me. During the whole process, they behaved well. No one talked when they listened to the tape.ConclusionBecause my students are limited in listening, which hinders their further English leaning; I designed this project with the help of the tutor. Acc ording to the students’situation, I gave them special listening training from the easy to the difficult. To begin with, I gave them some confusing words, then, short dialogues, passages. During the whole implementation, I watched every student’ behavior a nd offered help if they had any problems. I think listening practice is not a day or two days’ work. We should continue to practice in future. I hope my students must be overcome the difficulties in listening.Bibliography马占祥.
