dog

made
the arrangements, Ron

Lisa

four-year-old Shane

observe
the euthanasia. They
felt
Shane
could
leam something from
the experience. The
next

felt

familiar catch

my
throat
as
Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed

calm, patting the

dog

the
last time,
that
I wondered if
he understood what

going
on.

few minutes later, Belker slipped
peacefully away.

boy seemed
to
accept Belker's death without any difficulty or confusion. We
sat together for

little while
