Whether we are driving, biking, or walking, traffic signals help us know when to stop and when it is safe to proceed(前行).Crossing signs that flash“WALK”and“DON'T WALK” are placed at intersections (十字路口) to tell pedestrians when it is safe to cross a busy intersection on foot and prevent pedestrians from being struck by motorists.Pedestrians may become impatient and attempt to cross against the light if they have to wait too long for a W ALK sign. In addition, some signals do not allow enough time for pedestrians to cross an intersection safely. The prevalence of people talking on cell phones is posing a new distraction (分神) however. Pedestrians who are talking on the phone or sending text messages are typically staring at their phones rather than looking for traffic signals. They are often too distracted, leading to an increase in pedestrian texting accidents. The connection between cell phone use and pedestrian accidents is clear. To combat the problem, two cities in Germany are trying an innovative (创新的) approach: installing traffic lights in the ground. The German city of Augsburg installed traffic lights in the sidewalk that face up at pedestrians to create a whole new level of attention.New Jersey lawmakers have even proposed legislation that would ban distracted walking, fining those who use their cell phones while walking $50.[语篇解读]低头族已经成为全球问题,马路上边走路边打电话的人不计其数,走路时眼睛紧盯屏幕的更是大行其道.德国两个城市采取创新之举,改变传统红绿灯安装位置.然而,真的有用吗?1.Which one is not the reason for accidents?A. And that couldmean serious problems for the environment and nations that depend on fisheries (渔业). A new estimate shows that it is 32 million tons higher than countries have been reporting yearly. The same report notes that the world's fish catch has been declining since the late 1990s. Countries report their industrial catches to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. But they do not report other kinds of fishing. This includes the catches of small commercial fisheries, which are called artisanal fisheries, and fishing for recreation and individual food.Daniel Pauly at the University of British Columbia in Canada led the study. He noted that a huge amount of some catches is thrown away. “For example, shrimp trawlers (拖网渔船) keep only the shrimp and the fish that they catch — often eight to ten times as much as the shrimp —gets thrown away.”Pauly told VOA that better estimates of the actual global catch will help ensure there will be enough fish in the future. “But our figures suggest that since 1996 a rapid decrease is happening. And if you project this forward you end up in a few decades having much less catch, literally no catch. So that is potentially dangerous.”Researchers also found ways the world's fisheries are changing. They found that fishing fleets of larger nations are catching fish in the waters of developing countries more and more.Pauly said he was surprised by the amount of fishing done by foreign fleets in competition with local fishers. “In West Africa, the figure that was most astonishing is the enormous role of foreign fishing — of European and Asian vessels fishing legally or illegally and competing against local fishermen. On the other hand for the US, Australia and some developing countries, such as the Bahamas, what was apparent is the enormous contribution of recreational fisheries, which also never get reported to the FAO.”Researchers say inaccurate data also harms the development and supervision (监管) of effective policy and management measures.语篇解读:世界范围内捕鱼的数量比报告中的数量要多很多,而这些虚假报告对经济和环境都造成了不好的影响.4.What's the main idea of the passage?A.False amount of fish caught worldwide harms economy environment.B.The world's fish catch has been declining.C.The global fishing competition is serious.D.The management of global fishing needs improving.解析:选A主旨大意题.根据文章第一段第一、二句“The amount of fish caught worldwide is much larger than has been reported. How about having it brought to you by a robot? Thanks to Domino's Robotic Unit, that just became a reality. On March 8, the three-foot tall robot made its first delivery to some lucky residents in Brisbane, Australia. The autonomous DRU is the result of a cooperation between Domino's Pizza Australia and Marathon Robotics. The machine can cover a distance of up to 12 miles and back before requiring a battery recharge. Equipped with Google Maps and GPS guidance, DRU can go along bike paths and sidewalks and also find the most efficient way to its destination. LIDAR, a laser-based sensor technology similar to the one used in self-driving cars, enables DRU to detect and avoid obstacles, while traditional sensors ensure its path to its destination is safe. DRU's plastic shell protects the food from the bad weather, while its aluminum and steel container ensures that the pies remain hot.The robot can fit up to ten pizzas and even has a separate cold area to accommodate drink orders. To access their food, customers have to enter the unique code provided by the company. This not only ensures that they pick up the right pizza, but also prevents the pies from getting stolen.Domino's expects additional DRU to be ready for service in its various Queensland locations within the next six months. But don't expect these super cute robots to replace humans anytime soon. According to Domino's, the DRU still needs much testing, which the company believes could take up to two years. There is also the issue of regulations. The public use of autonomous vehicles is still banned in most countries. But Don Meij, the CEO of Domino's Pizza, is not worried. He believes that one day DRU will become a necessary part of the Domino's family.语篇解读:本文是一篇科普类说明文,主要介绍了一种可以上门为顾客送比萨的机器人.12.What's the function of LIDAR?A.Keeping DRU free of obstacles.B.Recharging DRU's battery.C.Helping DRU find its destination.D.Protecting DRU from bad weather.解析:选A细节理解题.根据第二段中的“LIDAR, a laser-based sensor technologysimilar to the one used in self-driving cars, enables DRU to detect and avoid obstacles ...”可知,LIDAR的功能是使DRU察觉并避开障碍物.故A项正确.13.What does the underlined word “accommodate” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?A.Heat. B.Hold.C.Sell. D.Show.解析:选B词义猜测题.根据画线词所在句中的“fit up to ten pizzas”可以判断,此处指该机器人最多可以盛放十个比萨,还有单独的冷藏区放饮料,故画线词应意为“容纳”,与B项意思相近.故B项正确.14.Why does the company provide codes for its customers?A.To fit up more pizzas.B.To prevent the pizza being taken by mistake.C.To keep the pizza warm.D.To get the pizza paid in time.解析:选B细节理解题.根据第三段最后一句“This not only ensures that they pick up the right pizza, but also prevents the pies from getting stolen.”可知,这是为了防止顾客拿错比萨.故B项正确.15.What can we infer about the future of DRU?A.It may need some improvements.B.It will replace humans soon.C.It may be banned in Australia.D.It will soon be applied worldwide.解析:选A推理判断题.根据最后一段中的“According to Domino's, the DRU still needs much testing, which the company believes could take up to two years.”可以判断,DRU仍有待改进.故A项正确.Ⅱ.阅读七选五(2018·济南高三一模)While you are travelling abroad, cultural mistakes are more serious than linguistic mistakes, which can lead to serious misunderstanding and even ill-feeling between individuals. __1__●Touching Someone__2__ In Mediterranean countries, if you don't touch someone's arm when talking to them or if you don't greet them with kisses or a warm hug, you'll be considered cold. 课时规范练33(选修7Unit 3)Ⅰ.阅读理解Understanding what’s killing the world’s coral reefs (珊瑚礁) has been the life work of Mark Hay,the Teasley Professor in the School of Biology at the Georgia Institute of Technology.During the past 35 years,he’s made more than 5,000 dives in both the Caribbean and Pacific — and each year he spends as much as five months with villagers on the Fiji Islands. On November 7,2015,he received the Lowell Thomas Award from the New York-based Explorer’s Club.“Dr Hay’s research and discoveries have influenced the foundations in the field of marine (海洋的) chemical ecology and created new procedures for effective conservation and management of the world’s coral reefs,” the organization said.Hay notes that over the last 40 years, the world has lost 80% of coral reefs in the Caribbean and 50% of the reefs in the Pacific.“For about a billion people around the world in the tropics (热带地区),coral reefs are one of the major sources of protein,so the loss affects food security for these areas,”he said.“Reef s also provide storm protection for low-lying villages, absorbing big waves coming into shore.”Hay’s research has focused on the complex interactions between species that are part of the reef community. These plants and animals communicate with each other by sending chemical signals. For instance, seaweed harms coral by sending poisonous chemicals, and by mechanically damaging it.Certain fish control the seaweed, but overfishing has allowed seaweed to get out of control.Among recent examples,Hay and his partners have learned that degraded reefs produce chemicals that tell baby fish and baby coral to stay away.Unless those signals can somehow be changed, damaged reefs won’t have a chance to recover. Many coral reef organisms lack hearing or vision.Instead, they must rely for their information on chemical signals provided by other organisms.1.According to the first paragraph,Mark Hay.A.devotes himself to studying oceansB.is very interested in outdoor activitiesC.is the best expert in studying coral reefsD.does most of his experiments in the wild2.What made Mark Hay win the prize?A.His deep devotion to land management.B.His great efforts to conserve marine plants.C.His huge contribution to the safety at sea.D.His new methods for protecting coral reefs.3.M ark Hay’s words in Para.3 suggest that.A.coral reefs do much good for sea lifeB.coral reefs are being damaged seriouslyC.the loss of coral reefs has broad impactsD.people have realized the importance of coral reefs4.What is the interaction between certain fish and coral reefs?A.Certain fish can protect coral reefs.B.Coral reefs may be destroyed by certain fish.C.Certain fish send chemical signals to coral reefs.D.Coral reefs produce chemicals to attract certain fish.〚导学号23280132〛Ⅱ.完形填空(2018·江西抚州临川一中期中检测)Two years ago, when I was still at university,I also worked at a restaurant.Every day I would see people sitting there, doing whatever they1.How I envied 选修7 Unit 3 Under the sea李仕才一、阅读理解A recent survey in the United States showed that the average family spent more money on its pets than on its children. Although rather shocking, it should not surprise anyone who has seen the doggy parlours(客厅) where loved pets rest. Are Americans unique in treating their little friends in this way? No, the English, too, pay more attention to their pets. This can clearly be seen when we look at pet foods, which often contain more vitamins than human food. They certainly cost much. Last year the British public spent two hundred million pounds on pet food alone, to say nothing of veterinary bills or animal furniture. It is difficult not to feel angry about this when considering what the same amount could do for victims of starvation and poverty, so it’s not unusual for me to get hot under collar when I read an old man left all his money to his dog instead of his children. There are a variety of reasons why I find pets-raising alarming. They cause physical problems. An example of this is New York where they have great difficulty getting rid of the mess that dogs leave on the streets. Many people find this funny, but in a number of large cities it is a major problem. Animals can cause disease, too. It is the threat of babies — a disease with no known cure.Another problem is the carelessness of pet owners. Most little children want a dog or a cat,and they continually push their mothers and fathers until they get one. It is only when the "sweet little thing" has been brought home that the parents realize how much time and money must be spent on "Rover" or "Bonzo". Then they just abandon it. As a result, they are allowed to run free. English farmers lose hundreds of sheep a year, killed by someone’s pet and you must have read of children being hurt by some pets of their own.Lastly, I would only suggest that we have got our priorities wrong and that something should be done about it. In my view, it’s time we stopped being sentimentalabout pets. I can see no reason why we should get upset when animals are cut up for medical experiments. This will lead us to discovering cures for serious human diseases, then I say,"keep cutting!"1. Ⅰ阅读理解AAs I began my junior year of college, I began to think of plans after graduation. I knew that I wanted to work in the field of my major, public relations. But I also knew that it was difficult to find a position considering my inexperience. That was when I decided to pursue an internship(实习工作).So I chose to talk to my advisor first. He had worked in the field of public relations for many years before he became a professor, and therefore had numerous contacts and associates in the field. After talking to him about a few of the positions, I decided to pursue the Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund because of my interest in the arts and the passion I would feel working for a nonprofit organization.I sent out a cover letter and a resume and was hired on the spot in the interview.I soon began my position. After class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I would drive to work and apply all the skills I was learning in the classroom. I was amazed at the amount of practical knowledge in class that was directly applicable to my internship position. It became a very useful and beneficial experience. Not only was I working for arts organizations and seeing my name printed on documents I had created, but also gaining confidence in my skills and myself. As the semester came to a close, I finishe d my work with the Fine Arts Fund. Although I didn’t take away any money for the internship, I gained many different kinds of experience and the knowledge that I was capable of accomplishing professional tasks. And that kind of confidence was invaluable to me as I sat down to interview for my next internship.【解题导语】作者上大三时就开始考虑自己的未来,考虑到实习经验在就业中的重要性,作者在导师的建议下找到了一个实习岗位,尽管没有挣到钱,但是所积累的经验让作者感到很值得。
