Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun,Conspiring with him how to load and blessWith fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shellsWith a sweet kernel; to set budding more,And still more, later flowers for the bees,Until they think warm days will never cease,For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells.

Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may findThee sitting careless on a granary floor,Thy hair sort-lifted by the winnowing wind;Or on a half-reap'd furrow sound asleep,Dows'd with the fume of poppies, while thy hook Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers. And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep Steady thy laden head across a brook;Or by a cyder-press, with patient look,Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.

An Appreciation of "Song to Celia"The whole poem describes a strong but exquisite affection of a man t o a beauty called Celia. In the poem. There is no any concrete descri btion of the woman's beauty, but the poet show us her beauty to perf ection by some abstraction and entity. He will get satisfaction just for delivering his love to the woman by eyes. He will bear the thirst an d resist the temptation of the nectar just for the sake of keeping the beauty's lipstick she left on the edge of the cup. He will present her with a bunch of rose just for getting her breath that he thinks much better than the smell of flo第2/3页lowers.

The theme of the poemIt is to express a kind of pure and unique love. That love does not mean the man who holds it has to balance his own love on the simil ar reward from the other. That is to say his for the woman is his enj oyment, he regards it as a pleasure. In the poem, the man cherishes t he lipstick of the woman, however, he does not demand a kiss from her, he even does not expect she would be intoxicated with his rose, just wish her not to through it away casually. In my opinion, the ros e in the poem suggests the man's pursuit to the woman, while he doe s not demand that she should accept him, a beautiful memory is enou gh. The theme of the poem also gives us many reasons to admire the woman's countenance and a large space to imagine how beautiful at earth is the woman? The poem is written in ballad meter. It fouroddcontains four-line stanz as. The odd-numbered evenlines have four meter each and the evennu mbered lines have three meter each. Rhymes fall on the even number ed lines. They are "mine, wine, divine, thine, thee, be, me, thee". An d there is ofen a refrain at the end of each stanza. The beginning of the poem is abrupt, it seems to tell a story about love by the action the man takes. The Appreciation of Ben Jonson’s Song to CeliaSong to Celia is loved by countless people all the ages. It is a love poem written by Ben Jonson who had many successful works. And this is one of Ben Jonson’s representative works. The whole poem describes a strong but exquisite emotion of a man to his lover called Celia. The overall tone of the poem is dreamy, optimistic, positive and innocent. Hence, when you read this poem, you may easily feel his love and be addicted in it.When we describe something, we should find its characteristics and so did the author. In the beginning of this poem, author portrayed the charming and attractive eyes and unforgettable kiss. Just like he wrote, “Drink to me only with thine eyes and I will pledge with mine.” As it widely known to all, eyes are the windows of the soul. When two people are falling in love with each other, the eyes of the lover are more emotional. They can even use eyes to express the deeply thoughts in each heart. “Or leave a kiss but in cup”, he’s willing to give up the Jove’s nectar and never look for another wine. And the kiss is the symbol of love. Indeed, for him, love is the greatest glycol wine, by contrast, Jove’s wine is nothing. The last two lines suggest that love is the mostgreatness thing in this world. Hence, we can easily understand the love to his lover is so deep. Also the wri ter’s imagination is so r ich and colorful. The second part of this poem is describing a thing about rosy wrea th in order to express the sweet smell of lover. As everyone knows, r ose is the symbol of love in most countries. Giving his lover a rosy wreath on ly for “It could not wither’d be”. As he wished, with the lover’s breath, it grows well and smells very good. However, we all know the smell is actually come from the lover. And the rosy wreath g ets eternal life from it. As far as I am concerned, make the rose ope n forever is not the lover’s breath but her love. This poet describe d the lover’s delicate psychology perfectly and we can feel the poet’s deep love between the lines. Twist and turns out a description of t he lover’s sweet. That’s so interesting.W hat’s more, this poem is iambic. Its rhyme was arranged by a b c b a b c b, exactly as, mine、wine、devine、thine 、thee、be、me and t hee. In addition,It is written in first person which can make you fe el you are just one of the protagonists and are able to understand th is poem from the maximum level. All those arrangements make the poem be filled with the beauty of music and read catchy. As far as I am concerned, I really enjoyed this poem, not only for its underlying meaning but also for the simple language and musical beauty. And I believe that this poem will be permanently loved by t he later generations forever. In short, this poem is imaginative, unique, ingenious, vivid and full of deep feeling so that it has been spreadin g for hundreds of years.。
