MPhil所进行的是为期二至三年的专业研究。
MPhil是攻读PhD(哲学博士)期间，因为研究进度不达标、考核不合格或其他原因中途肄业而被颁发的学位。

MPhil也可以作为独立的学位申请。

这种学位在英国比较罕见，这种学位的攻读办法，是不上课，纯研究，但是享有一切的学校、学院资源。

2:2同样是二等成绩的二等二2：2，是lower second class，成绩在50%-59%之间，相当于中国平均分70以上，绩点在3.00-3.32间。
尽管同样是二等成绩，但是对于英国人来说，2：2的价值远不如2：1，大部分英国的研究生入学要求以2：2为底线，而对于找工作，二等二就开始比较困难了。
Third Class最后一级就是三等成绩，third class，也就是英国的及格成绩40%-49%，相当于中国的60-69，绩点2.30-2.99。
