各位同学，针对大家初涉论文写作时提出的一些问题，我先期做一个汇总，集中回答。
虽然这些问题是各位从自己的角度提出的疑问，但是具有一定的普遍性，因此以集体邮件的形式回答。
我在此前你们的邮件中梳理出的问题大致如下：1. 作品没有看过，但看过电影，觉得不错，想写，但是没把握。
2. 自己想写的作品已经被研究得非常成熟，论文出得太多，甚至太烂，以至于没有写的必要。
3. 论文可以下手的角度有很多，也或者不知道从哪个角度入手。
4. 许多现实主义作品在涉及历史背景时难以把握。
5. 学过一些理论，但是实践起来有困难。
6. Outline应该怎么写，outline跟Contents或者Table of Contents有何区别。
以上问题都提得非常好，可见各位已经在很认真的思考论文写作这个问题，也可见大家很清楚论文写作与其他写作（比如小说、诗歌、散文、随笔等等）在性质上的不同，具体而言即论文写作有自己固定的规则，具体而且明确，不可以随意发挥。
下面我尝试回答：1. 文学研究包括文本研究，历史研究，技巧研究，读者反应，文学理论等等不一而足；对于你们来说，所能做的工作实在十分有限，这一点从学院给你们的论文选题里就可以看出来。
你们能做的基本上只是文本研究，而且不包括电影文本这样的概念。
我们姑且不论这种局限，从解决问题的立场看，如果你没有读过文本，只是看过电影，那是比较危险的。
原因如下：首先，电影是对文本在某一时期，某一角度的再现和再理解，不能代表文本本身；其次，电影语言与文字表达是不同的概念，表达方式不同，读者反应不同；再次，论文中需要有对文本的引用和分析，仅看电影不可能做到这一点；这也引出了最后一点，即你最终还是要看文本才能做后续工作，并且可能还带着理解上的偏差。
当然，文学研究本身讲究多角度切入，所以有时电影的视角也是一种有益的借鉴和补充甚至引导，但这是另一回事。
2. 这个问题许多同学都问过，但事情其实很简单。
为什么文学史上那么多作家中，我们能够选择的只有这么几个，像华兹华斯或者济慈或者伍尔夫或者艾略特或者福克纳或者艾伦·坡或者佛罗斯特等等等等等等等等都没有呢？就是因为那几个作家被我们（特指中国文学研究的圈子）反反复复几十年炒冷饭，炒得其熟无比，有大量的资料可用，大量的思路可供借鉴，大量的观点可供参考。
