奥巴马通过新开通的@POTUS账号发布Twitter消息称：“Twitter你好!贝拉克来了，是真的!6年了，他们终于给了我一个属于我自己的账号”。
2016年5月15日，美国新泽西州皮斯卡塔韦，美国总统奥巴马出席罗格斯大学毕业典礼，并被授予荣誉博士学位。
离任演讲
当地时间2017年1月10日晚间，美国总统奥巴马回到第二故乡芝加哥，在麦克考米克广场的湖滨会议中心发表离任告别演说。
奥巴马在演讲中呼吁美国弥合分裂，团结在一起。
奥巴马认为，种族问题仍然是美国分裂的因素，他呼吁白人理解少数族裔争取平等的努力。
奥巴马同时也提到不能忽视白人群体，尤其是被经济、文化和技术变迁边缘化的中低收入者。
奥巴马说，21世纪初的国际形势严峻，经济不景气，不平等加剧，人口结构变迁，恐怖主义挥之不去，面对这些长期性问题，“谁也没有快速解决之道”。
他警告说，下一波经济紊乱不是来自海外，而是来自机器自动化造成的失业潮，因此尤其需要形成新的社会契约，保证教育等民生。
演讲中，奥巴马列举了8年任期内取得的成就：经济恢复、就业增长、出台医疗改革法案、应对气候变化、发展可再生能源，同历史相比，谋杀犯罪率处于低位。
当地媒体9日发布的一项民调称，即将卸任之际，奥巴马在美国民众中的支持率为57%，反对者占37%，但民众意见的党派分野明显。
