It was a really long drive but we made it an adventure. It started off on the first day of winter break. My mom and dad both had the weeks off from work, so bright and early that morning we loaded up our minivan with all our suitcases and snacks and toys and stuff. I have a little baby brother who's only 1 year old, so we had to bring his portable crib, stroller, diapers, bottles, and a ton of other baby things too.My dad got behind the wheel and I sat in the backseat between my mom and baby brother's car seat. We headed out on the highway and I knew we were in for a massive road trip because our hometown is actually super far from my grandparents' house - it takes almost an entire day of driving to get there! After about an hour, I got bored just looking out the window. So I got out my tablet and headphones and watched a movie. My baby brother took his morning nap pretty early into the drive. When he woke up and got fussy, my mom gave him snacks and played games with him. He seemed really confused about being stuck in the car for so long. I don't blame him - it's hard for a little baby!We stopped at a couple of fast food restaurants for breakfast and lunch. My dad wanted to make good time, so we just atequickly and got back on the road. I had chicken nuggets both times because they're my favorite. The drive started getting really boring after a while. We were just driving down the same highway, seeing the same trees and fields and cars out the window over and over again. My mom had made me a road trip activity book before we left, so I worked on mazes, word searches, and connect-the-dot games to pass the time. I also played some videogames on my tablet. My baby brother was the hardest one to keep entertained. He doesn't really have a long enough attention span for movies or games at his age. He mostly just cried a lot and slept a little. Poor guy!We finally stopped for the night at a hotel about 8 hours into the drive. My dad got us a suite so my brother would have a separate room to sleep in. We went to the hotel pool for a little before bedtime, which was fun. I was exhausted and knocked out pretty quickly after that! The next morning, we had a quick breakfast of bananas and granola bars in the hotel room and hit the road again. Only about 4 more hours to go!This part of the drive was the prettiest in my opinion. We drove by this huge, beautiful river for a long time with trees lining both shores. My dad let me share control of the music and I played lots of fun road trip song playlists. We sang really loudly and had a little dance party right in the car!The last stretch to my grandparents' place was mostly through their small hometown. We passed by tons of cute little shops, the park I used to play in when I was littler, and the building where my dad went to school. So many memories! When we finally pulled into my grandparents' driveway, they came running out with such huge smiles to greet us. I hadn't seen them in months, so I gave them both the biggest hugs. My dad unloaded all our stuff and we were officially on winter break at Grandma and Grandpa's house! The days we spent there were amazing. We decorated cookies and gingerbread houses, went sledding and had epic snowball fights, drove around looking at the crazy Christmas light displays, and just had the coziest time hanging out by the fireplace telling stories and jokes. Grandma and Grandpa's house always feels like the warmest, most loving place. Before we knew it, the week of break was over and it was time to make the drive back home. This time my dad drove whilemy mom sat in the backseat with my brother, since he would be more fussy and restless on the way back.I'll be honest, the return drive felt even longer than the way there! I was so used to the fun and freedom of being at my grandparents' place. But we made the best of it. We stopped at an indoor playground area for a couple hours about halfway through to stretch our legs and burn off some energy. When we finally finally got home after over 12 hours on the road that day, I immediately went and jumped on my own bed. As much as I LOVE going to Grandma and Grandpa's, there's no place like home!So that's the story of our huge winter road trip to visit family this year. Even though there was a ton of driving, we made sure to have fun along the way and really enjoyed ourselves. I know I'll cherish the memories we made together forever. I'm already counting down to next winter break!篇2My Exciting Road Trip Home for Winter BreakHi, my name is Lily and I'm 8 years old. I just had the most fun and adventurous winter break ever! My mom, dad, little brother Tommy (he's 5), and I went on a long road trip from ourhouse in New York City all the way back to my grandparents' house in Phoenix, Arizona for the holidays. I was so excited for the drive because we hadn't gone on a real family road trip in forever. We left really early on the Friday morning after my last day of school before break. I woke up when it was still dark out and helped my mom pack the snacks and games and movies for the car. My dad put our suitcases in the trunk of our red minivan. Tommy was still sleeping so my dad had to carry him to the car and buckle him into his car seat. He looked so funny passed out with his mouth wide open! Finally we were all in the car and ready to go. My dad turned on some fun road trip music as we headed towards the highway.I love singing along to songs in the car. My favorite one to sing is "The Wheels on the Bus" because Tommy loves that song too and we can really go crazy dancing and singing it at the top of our lungs. My dad thinks it's hilarious when we do that. After a few hours of driving, the sun came up and we could see we were getting closer to the countryside outside of the city.I pressed my face against the window and stared at all the trees, farm fields, and little country houses we passed. Everything looked so pretty covered in snow! My dad had to keepreminding me to sit back from the window because I was getting the glass all smudged up.We stopped at a diner for a big breakfast around 9am. I picked chocolate chip pancakes, Tommy got frosted donuts, and my mom and dad had coffee and eggs. The pancakes were so yummy and fluffy! While we ate, my dad used his phone tocheck the weather forecast. He showed my mom that there could be a big snowstorm coming through Ohio the next day on our way through. "We'll have to drive really slow and carefully through that," he told her. I got a little nervous hearing that because I was worried the snow would slow us down too much. I really wanted to get to my grandparents' house in good time! After breakfast, we got back on the highway and played some road trip games. My favorite was trying to spot different license plates from other states. We kept track of which new ones we saw and I was the first one to spot a Hawaii plate, which was really cool and unexpected! Tommy loved the game too but got a little confused because he doesn't know how to read the states and abbreviations yet.Around lunchtime, we stopped at a McDonald's restaurant with an indoor playground. My mom ordered us some happy meals with chicken nuggets, fries, and burgers. Then Tommy andI got to run around and burn off some energy in the play area while my parents sat down to rest their legs. We played on the slides, climbed through tunnels, jumped in the ball pit, and met a couple other kids who were also on road trips with their families. It was a great break to get our wiggles out after sitting so long in the car that morning.Once we were back on the road, Tommy took a really long nap and I watched a couple movies on the iPad my parents had packed. My favorite was the new Puss in Boots movie because it was really funny and exciting. I also read some books and played some games on the iPad. My mom put a warm blanket over my legs and I got really cozy and sleepy.Later in the afternoon, we started seeing signs that a huge snowstorm was rolling in, just like the forecast had predicted. First the sky got darker, then big white flakes started falling. My dad slowed down and turned on the windshield wipers. "You kids okay back there?" he asked over his shoulder. Tommy had just woken up and was a little fussy from his nap. I felt okay, just excited to see so much snow! The snow started coming down harder and harder as we kept driving. "Wow, this is getting pretty intense!" my dad shouted over the loud wind and rain. My mom suggested weshould stop soon and get a hotel room for the night because the roads were getting too slick and hazardous. We pulled off at the next exit for a small town in Ohio. Nothing was really open except for one little motel with a "VACANCY" sign flashing. My dad booked us a room and we pulled into the parking lot, rushing inside from the freezing wind and piles of snow that had already accumulated. Our minivan was covered in snow too!The motel room was really small and kind of oldand smelly, but we were just happy to be someplace warm and safe from the storm. We ordered a pizza for dinner and spent a cozy night watching movies together. Tommy and I even got to have a pillow fight before bedtime! I could hear the wind howling and whistling loudly against our window. I was glad we weren't still out driving in that dangerous blizzard.篇3Our Winter Break Road Trip HomeThe last day of school before winter break was finally here! I was so excited because my mom, dad, brother and I were going on a road trip to visit my grandparents for the holidays. They live pretty far away, about an eight hour drive, so we don't get to see them very often. As soon as the final bell rang, I raced out to the car where my mom was waiting. "Are you ready for our big adventure?" she asked with a smile as I hopped into the backseat. I nodded enthusiastically. My little brother Tommy wasn't quite as thrilled though. "Eight whole hours in the car?" he whined. "That's going to be so boring!"Mom laughed. "Don't worry, we've got plenty of activities planned to keep you two busy. And we'll take breaks along the way to stretch our legs."Once we were all buckled up, Dad backed out of the school parking lot and we were on our way! To keep us entertained, Mom put on one of the Harry Potter audiobooks. Tommy and I loved listening to the story about wizards and magic. The hours seemed to fly by.Eventually we had to stop for a restroom break. We pulled off at a big gas station and went inside. The snack aisle was full of chips, candy, and other road trip treats. "Can we please get something?" I begged Mom and Dad. After a little negotiating, they agreed to let each of us pick one snack for the road. I chose Red Vines licorice, Tommy got M&M's, and Mom and Dad each got a big water bottle to stay hydrated. After our short pit stop, we loaded back into the van and merged onto the highway. More audiobook and snacking ensued. At one point, Tommy started getting a little antsy. "Mom, Dad, can't we just beam ourselves to Grandma and Grandpa's with magic?""I'm afraid modern science hasn't advanced quite that far yet," Dad chuckled. "If we keep following this road though, it'll get us there soon enough."To pass the time, we started playing some road trip games that Mom had prepared. First was the license plate game, where you kept an eye out for various states' plates. Then we playedI-Spy with things we spotted outside the car windows. Finally, we did some basic math flashcards to keep our brains sharp.Eventually we stopped for a late lunch at a diner off the highway. The warm, hearty meal of chicken nuggets, fries, and a chocolate milkshake really hit the spot. I was starting to feel a little road weary, but my belly was full and I had snacks to munch on if I got hungry again. The last couple of hours definitely started dragging a little. We finished the Harry Potter book and had played about all the games we could think of. Mom and Dad didn't want us zoning out in front of screens the whole time, so we tried singing somesongs we all knew for a little while. Tommy and I had fun making up silly road trip versions of nursery rhymes like "The Wheels on the Van."At long last, the road signs started looking familiar. "Only 20 more miles, kids!" Dad announced. We shouted with glee, finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. When we pulled into Grandma and Grandpa's driveway, they were waiting outside with open arms. We all piled out of the car, excited to finally be there. My grandparents greeted each of us with a big hug."We're so glad you made it safely," Grandma said, giving me an extra tight squeeze. "We've missed you all so much!"After claiming our luggage from the trunk, we headed inside their cozy home. It smelled like freshly baked cookies and a fire was crackling in the fireplace. A huge Christmas tree took up one corner of the living room, surrounded by festive decorations. As I sank into the overstuffed armchair, completely relaxed for the first time in eight hours, I knew the long drive had been completely worth it to spend the holidays with my extended family. And who knows, maybe next year we'll get to take that magic transport after all! A kid can dream, right?。
