Thomas Edison lit up the world with his invention of the electric light. Without him, the world might still be in the dark at night. However, the electric light was not his only invention. He also invented 1,200 other important things. Nearly every two weeks, he created something new.
Thomas Edison was born in 1847. He attended school for only three months. His mother taught him at home, but he was mostly self-educated. He started trying but his new ideas at a very young age and he loved that very much. When he was 12 years old, he got his first job. He became a newsboy on a train. He did experiments on the train in his spare time. Unluckily, his first working experience didn’t end well. He was fired (解雇) when he accidentally (偶然地) set fire to the floor of the train. Then Edison worked as a telegraph operator (电报员) for five years, but he continued to spend much of his time creating things until the vote recorder (投票计数器), his first invention, came in 1868.
Thomas Edison was nearly deaf in one ear and it was also hard for him to hear in the other, but he never minded. Because of this, he could have more time for work. He always worked 16 out of every 24 hours. Sometimes his wife had to remind him to eat and sleep.
Thomas Edison died at the age of 84. He left many inventions that greatly improved the quality of life all over the world.

Once there was an English prince called Henry. He liked to study languages, but smiles never came on his face. His father, the king tried to make him happy in every possible way. Yet the young prince was not happy.

Liu Jinyin, a young farmer in a rural area of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, has attracted nearly 100,000 followers by broadcasting (网络直播) his daily life in the village. Within six months, Liu made 80,000 yuan. Some of
his followers said his broadcasts reminded them of their childhood memories.
The rise of live streaming (直播的兴起) has given ordinary people chances to receive more attention and make the ways they can make money.
However, vulgar (粗俗的) content and lack of originality have long been criticized (批评) by society. The broadcasts of Liu stand out because of their different content — clean content that is close to real life, such as feeding pigs, transplanting rice seedlings (插秧), and catching fish.

Sorry, potato people! Although it’s probably no surprise that French fries are among the worst food you can eat, most of us still don’t believe it. According to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, people’s guilty feeling may be
well-placed. The research, which researched potato eating in 4,400 older people between ages of 45 and 79 over the course of eight years, shows that eating fried potatoes at least twice a week highly increases our risk of death.
But hold up! Before you completely stop eating potatoes, you should know that it is found that eating potatoes overall (even a lot of them!) wouldn’t kill you. Instead, it’s the type of potato that makes all the difference between life and death.
Eating fried potatoes like French fries at least twice per week increased the risk of death in the study. On the other hand, potatoes that were not fried, such as boiled and baked potatoes, were less likely to cause death.
Why? Potatoes have healthy levels of fiber (纤维) and vitamins, so you can partake without feeling bad. But when it comes to the fried food, you might need to think again. French fries usually have lots of fat and added salt, leading to weight growth. Still, when all is said and done, connection isn’t totally equal to causation (因果关系). More research is needed before certainly concluding that eating French fries alone increases the risk of death.
Luckily, potatoes are still considered as one of your suggested three to five servings of vegetables per day. Just try not to eat the fatty ones, if you can.
