The Iron Yard's formula is simple. It offers full-time, 12-week coding boot-camp programs in nine different cities, with courses in areas such as mobile app development and back-end engineering. There is no formal accreditation and at $13,900, it's a fraction of the cost of a four-year degree at many traditional colleges. But the program promises to be just as effective
in launching a technology career, with graduates finding jobs at companies such as Adobe, AT&T and Bank of America.
The Iron Yard is just one example of the booming "boot-camp" trend happening across the nation. According to a recent Times report, there are currently over 90 boot-camp programs available, up from just a dozen in 2012. While each program offers different areas of focus, they all claim to provide a fast and efficient alternative to traditional education.
While a college degree certainly has its merit, it no longer guarantees financial success or job security.
