If you are graduating this year or next, you are actually in the transition from graduation to employment. To make the transition smooth, you need to do lots of things. The first, and perhaps the most important, is to decide which career you want to start and find out what job you are interested in. Once you know what career and job you want, nothing should get in the way or keep you from attaining your goal. Just believe in the power you hold!

2003 Britain becomes the first country to
issue research licenses for human embryonic cloning to create stem cells. It specifies therapeutic, not reproductive, cloning. 2004 Britain announces the first embryonic stem cell bank. 2005 South Korea clones a dog named Snuppy. Dogs are considered particularly difficult to clone because of the complex reproductive biology.
Questions for comprehension
Q1: In what way is Dolly different from other lambs? Dolly was a clone, the exact copy of its mother. Q2: What is the significance of Dolly’s birth? For Dolly’s birth, cloning is no longer a stuff of science fiction.
Text A
A Clone Is Born
Text Organization
Part One (Paras 1-2) Dolly the sheep, a clone, was born.
Part Two (Paras 3-6) Dolly’s birth has ’ made cloning a reality and human cloning a possibility.
Cloning
Cloning Milestones
1938 Cloning is envisioned. Dr. Hans Spemann (Germany) proposed what he called a "fantastical experiment." He suggested removing the nucleus from an unfertilized egg and replacing it with the nucleus from a differentiated cell. 1953 Structure of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) discovered by Francis C. Crick (U.K.) and James D. Watson (U.S.). 1970 Dr. John B. Gurdon (U.K.) clones a frog by transplanting the intestinal cell of a tadpole into an enucleated (去核细胞 frog egg, which develops 去核细胞) 去核细胞 into an adult frog.
Part Three (Paras 7-11) People have to face the ethical problems of human cloning. This part can be further divided into…
Section One (Paras 7-9): Human cloning has given rise to the question of what implications the technology may have for mankind. Section Two (Paras 10-11): The making of the atomic bomb had a tremendous impact on scientists.
Unit Eight
Cloning
The Basic Science You Need to Know
Genes are strings of chemicals that help create the proteins that make up your body. Genes are found in long coiled chains called chromosomes. They are located in the nuclei of the cells in your body.
Part Four (Paras 12-16) Cloning technology could benefit people in more than one way.
Cultural Notes
Narcissus Prometheus Oppenheimer, (Julius) Robert Hiroshima Nagasaki
China’s Breakthroughs in Cloning
1999 Chinese scientists have produced an embryo of a giant panda through cloning technology, a breakthrough that could save the endangered animal. Scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences had introduced cells of a dead female panda into the egg cells of a Japanese white rabbit and the embryo was nurtured successfully. 2003 Chinese scientists have produced human embryonic stem cells by mabbit eggs. This experiment would represent the first time human embryonic stem cells had been generated via cloning.
GENES
Genes
" WAYS TO MAKE AN EMBRYO" In sexual reproduction a child gets half its genes from its mother (in her egg) and half from its father (in his sperm).
Human cloning
Human cloning is a very controversial issue and there are many advantages and disadvantages.
