广西平乐县高考英语一轮复习阅读理解暑假编练(三)

广西平乐县2017高考英语阅读理解暑假编练(三)阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
The latest research suggests that the key factor separating geniuses from the merely accomplished is not I. Q. , a generally bad predictor of success. Instead, it’s purposeful practice. Top performers spend more hours practising their craft. If you wanted to picture how a typical genius might develop, you’d take a girl who possessed a slightly above average language ability. It wouldn’t have to be a big talent, just enough so that she might gain some sense of distinction. Then you would want her to meet, say, a novelist, who coincidentally shared some similar qualities. Maybe the writer was from the same town, had the same family background, or, shared the same birthday. This contact would give the girl a vision of her future self. It would give her some idea of a fascinating circle she might someday join. It would also help if one of her parents died when she was 12, giving her a strong sense of insecurity and fuelling a desperate need for success. Armed with this ambition, she would read novels and life stories of writers without end. This would give her a primary know-ledge of her field. She’d be able to see new writing in deeper ways and quickly understand its inner workings. Then she would practise writing. Her practice would be slow, painstaking and error-focused. By practising in this way, she delays the automatizing process. Her mind wants to turn conscious, newly learned skills into unconscious, automatically performed skills. By practising slowly, by breaking skills down into tiny parts and repeating, she forces the brain to internalize a better pattern of performance. Then she would find an adviser who would provide a constant stream of feedback, viewing her performance from the outside, correcting the smallest errors, pushing her to take on tougher challenges. By now she is redoing problems—how do I get characters into a room—dozens and dozens of times. She is establishing habits of thought she can call upon in order to understand or solve future problems. The primary quality our young writer possesses is not some mysterious genius. It’s the ability to develop a purposeful, laborious and boring practice routine. The latest research takes some of the magic out of great achievement. But it underlines a fact that is often neglected. Publicdiscussion is affected by genetics and what we’re “hard-wired” to do. And it’s true that genes play a role in our capabilities. But the brain is also very plastic. We construct ourselves through behaviour.1. The passage mainly deals with .A. the function of I. Q. in cultivating a writerB. the relationship between genius and successC. the decisive factor in making a geniusD. the way of gaining some sense of distinction2. By reading novels and writers’ stories, the girl could.A. come to understand the inner structure of writingB. join a fascinating circle of writers somedayC. share with a novelist her likes and dislikesD. learn from the living examples to establish a sense of security3. In the girl’s long painstaking trainin g process, .A. her adviser forms a primary challenging force to her successB. her writing turns into an automatic pattern of performanceC. she acquires the magic of some great achievementsD. she comes to realize she is “hard-wired” to write4. What can be concluded from the passage?A. A fuelling ambition plays a leading role in one’s success.B. A responsible adviser is more important than the knowledge of writing.C. As to the growt h of a genius, I. Q. doesn’t matter, but just his/her efforts.D. What really matters is what you do rather than who you are.【参考答案】1—4、CABD阅读理解。

Kingda Ka,the tallest roller coaster (过山车)on Earth, drops its passengers a life-flashing 418 feet。
Ferrari World’s Formula Rossa, the fastest, takes riders' breath away at speeds of up to150 mph. BRC Imagination Arts, a Southern California design firm, has proposed something entirely new: a ride that creates the sensation of zero gravity for up to eight seconds at a time.BRC drew its concept from the ”Vomit Comet,” the plane NASA uses to train astronauts。
Its proposed theme-park ride would travel up and then back, similar to the existing ”Superman: Escape from Krypton” coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California. But unlike Superman and other open—car coasters, the vomit—comet ride would be fully enclosed。
Riders would enjoy the illusion of floating within a stable chamber. To create that illusion, a special motor system would speed coasters up the track with great precision(精确度)。

We were moving to a new state after my husband had been out of work for many months and we had no money. In fact, we had to borrow money to reach our destination town. Anyway, it was my husband, two boys aged four and two, and myself, seven months pregnant (怀孕), in an old Volvo station wagon. We had been driving for two days in the middle of winter (that car’s heater didn’t work), and we had taken a route that was very desolate. There was nothing around for miles-no cars, buildings or signs of civilization. Suddenly, our car started losing power and the gauges(汽油表) went all out of order. We saw a light in the distance and managed to roll to a stop in front of this property that looked like a small simple house. Our cell phones had not gotten reception for ma ny miles, and it was freezing outside, so I didn’t know if we were going to make it out of this situation alive. My husband got out of the car to see if there was something he could do to get us rolling again, but it was not looking good. A short while later, a man came out of the house and spoke with my husband a bit before inviting us all into his home. He and his wife took us in, fed us, and made us feel at home as we struggled to find some way to get to our destination, which was still a few hours’ drive away. We were able to call a friend and get a ride, leaving our broken car behind, but not before the couple gave us food and water for our journey. One week later, this dear sweet couple pulled our car all the way to our place and refused to take anything in return, except for us to pay it forward-and we have, and will continue to do it forever.1. 广西藤县2017高考英语一轮复习阅读理解过关题(二)(含解析)
广西藤县2017高考英语阅读理解一轮过关题(二)阅读理解训练(2015·河北省普高质监)Martha Graham, born in 1894, was one of the most famous dancers and creators of dance, whose influence on dance has been compared with the influence Picasso had on the modern visual arts, Stravinsky had on music, or Frank Lloyd Wright had on architecture. She created almost two hundred dance pieces. She is often called the Mother of Modern Dance.Earlier in her life, however, Martha did not know that she would become a dancer. At that time, the dancers were looked down on. So Martha's parents didn't approve of her desire to dance at the beginning. Until 1916, she began her studies at the newly created Denishawn School of Dancing and Related Arts, founded by Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn, where Graham worked very hard to improve her ability to dance because she was considered too old to begin dancing. In 1936, Gra ham made her defining work, “Chronicle”, which signaled the beginning of a new era in modern dance. The dance brought serious issues to the stage for the general public in a dramatic manner. Influenced by the Wall Street Crash of 1929, the Great Depression that followed, and the Spanish Civil War, it focused on depression and isolation, reflected in the dark nature of both the set and costumes.Graham continued to dance past the age of seventy. Once again, she was met with criticism from people who came to watch her shows. But she didn't give up. Her last completed ballet was 1990's Maple Leaf Rag. “A Dancer's World” is an introduction to Graham and her work. She tells about her dances and her dance group shows some of their methods.Martha Graham received many awards during her lifetime, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in nineteen seventysix. She was the first dancer to receive the country's highest civilian honor. She died in 1991 at the age of ninetysix. In 1998, Time magazine listed her as the “Dancer of the Century” and as one of the most important people of the twentieth century.文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。

In the long discussion of water on the Moon, a new study contradicts (与……相矛盾) some recent reports that say the Moon had water at the time of its formation. A group of researchers reports in the journal Science that when the Moon was created, some 4. 5 billion years ago, there was not much hydrogen (氢气) on it, and therefore no water. The researchers surveyed and evaluated this by analyzing chlorine isotopes found in lunar rock samples from Apollo missions. The range of chlorine (氯) isotopes in lunar samples was 25 times that found in samples from Earth.“If the Moon h ad significant levels of hydrogen, as Earth did, this range would have been far less,” said Zachary D. Sharp, a scientist in the D epartment of Earth and Planetary Sciences and the study’s lead author.“The chlorine would have stuck together with hydrogen, forming compounds like hydrogen chloride, and escaped from the Moon’s surface,”he said. The abundance of chlorine indicates a lac k of hydrogen and water.“The amount o f water on the Moon was way too low for life to have ever have possibly have existed there,” he said. Most scientists believe the Moon was formed when a large object struck Earth, breaking off a chunk (a vast piece) that has since orbited Earth. On Earth, goes one theory, water was released as steam from molten basalts (玄武岩) over time, eventually forming bodies of water.“An unders tanding of whether the Moon was dry or wet will help us understand how water appeared on Earth,” Dr. Sharp said.1. A new study indicates that on the moon.A. there is plenty of waterB. water is unlikely to existC. water existed in the pastD. there is a little water now2. The author would like to tell us through the sixth paragraph.A. why there is no water on the MoonB. how the Moon was formedC. when the Earth struck the MoonD. where the Moon orbited3. Not being much hydrogen, no water on the Moon.D. More chlorine exists on the Moon than Earth.4. Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage?A. Zachary D. Sharp, a scientist of New Mexico was in charge of the new study.B. Chlorine isotopes are 25 times in lunar larger than Earth.C. The more abundant chloride, the shorter hydrogen and water.D. 1 广西浦北县2017高考英语阅读理解(一轮)选编 (2016高考训练)阅读下列材料,从每题所给的选项中选出最佳选项。 体裁:说明文 话题:错误与成长 词数:352 时间:5′ We live in a culture that sends out very mixed messages about mistakes: We're told we learn by making them, but we work hard to avoid them.So the result is most of us know that we are going to make mistakes, but deep down, we feel we shouldn't. Experiments with schoolchildren who did well on a given test show that those who were praised for being smart and then offered a more challenging or less challenging task afterward usually chose the easier one.On the other hand, children praised for trying hard—rather than being smart—far more often selected the more difficult task. If we try hard to avoid mistakes, we aren't open to getting the information we need in order to do better. In a writing study, experiments showed that those who are so scared to make mistakes perform worse in writing tasks than those who aren't as worried about being perfect. They fear receiving any kind of negative feedback, so they don't learn where they went wrong and how to get better. We don't just learn more when we're open to mistakes, we learn deeper.Research tells us that if we're only concerned about getting the right answer, we don't always learn the underlying concepts that help us truly understand whatever we're trying to figure out.Mistakes need to be seen not as a failure to learn, but as a guide to what still needs to be learned. As Thomas Edison said, “I am not discouraged, because every abandoned wrong attempt is another step forward.” Furthermore, we often make mistakes because we try new things—we wander away from accepted paths.Teflon, penicillin—these are examples of great discoveries made by mistake.Take a page from Albert Einstein, who said, “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” 【语篇解读】 本文讲述了错误对于我们成长的积极作用,并列举了相关实验和例子,以及我们应该用积极的态度对待错误。 1.What will happen to students praised for being smart in face of choosing tasks compared to students praised for working hard? 2

The phone of the“Nightline”rang yet again and Morrie asked his helper.Connie,to get it. She had been taking down the callers’names in Morrie’s small black appointment book. It was clear I was not the only one interested in visiting my old professor—the“Nightline”appearance had made him something of a big figure—but I was impressed with, perhaps even a bit envious of, all the friends that Morrie seemed to have.
