As we all know, the environment around us is getting worse and worse. In some places we can’t see fish 11 in the river or trees on the hills. Some people even have no clean water to drink.

Recently, a new life style called low carbon(低碳)life is spreading every corner of our country. The meanings of low carbon are 12 energy and no waste. It is such an important project that I can’t wait to express my ideas on how to promote it.

A

Is the whale the world’s largest fish? No. It looks like a fish, but it is really a mammal (哺乳动物). Then what’s the world’s largest fish? It’s the whale shark(鲸鲨).

Although the whale shark is our biggest fish and lives in many oceans (海洋)around the world, few people have ever heard of it. Scientists have not been studying whale sharks for very long. Much more needs to be learned about them.

A whale shark is sometime s called a “gentle giant (温柔的巨人)”. It likes to be alone and doesn’t care a bit about divers or humans. The biggest whale shark weighed 24,250 pounds and was nearly 40 feet long. This makes it heavier and longer than a school bus.

Inside its huge mouth are great numbers of very small teeth. To count all of them, you’ll need to do some math. The whale shark’s teeth are arranged in rows. There are between eleven and thirteen rows on each jaw (颚) and around three hundred teeth in each row.

However, the whale shark rarely uses its teeth. It does not chew or bite its food. Large amounts of water are pulled into its mouth and then pushed out through its gills (鳃).

For a few months every year, a group of whale sharks comes to Ningaloo Reef, off Western Australia. This gives scientists a wonderful chance to study the large fish. Whale sharks do live in other oceans of the world, but no one knows their population. It is possible that our biggest fish may need protecting. It is one of the reasons why scientists continue to learn all they can about these gentle giants.

One pleasant evening, I was holding Grandpa's hand and taking a walk in the park.

“Where are the peanuts? Give me now!”He suddenly said. How I wished I had some with

me! “William, the monkeys are taking long to come out today. Wait till they smell the peanuts.”

I knew he was lost in one of his memories again. I remembered the stories he told me of how he fed the monkeys when he was a kid. Then, he saw the goldfish! He acted as if he was seeing them for the first time.

Poor Grandpa! He fell ill with Alzheimer's disease(阿尔茨海默症) last year. The doctor said it was a progressive brain disorder which could destroy(破坏) a person's memory. The patient might also not be able to make reasonable judgments (判断). The saddening part was that it was a lifelong disease. But when my parents

invited him to stay with us, he refused and said he liked living alone. One day, he forgot to turn off the fire after cooking porridge. Luckily, one of the neighbors came to help him before the fire could spread.

It was then that my parents brought Grandpa to live with us. Often, he would forget my name and ask me who I was and what I was doing in his house. Each time I would answer softly, “It's me, Ray, Grandpa!”Even if he had forgotten who I was, he would always be my beloved grandfather.

A. To make sure of his safety.

B. To help him remember their names.

C. To answer his questions in time.

D. To get his help with the housework.

30. Which of the following best describes the writer?

A. Smart.

B. Caring.

C. Honest.

D. Brave.

C

Do you ever wish you had more time? Everyone gets the same amount of time each day. But here are some ways to use those hours better. As a popular saying says, “Work smarter, not harder.”

The most important way to manage your time is to set priorities(优先权). 31. ________ Also, consider whether or not they are urgent—if they need to be done right away. It can be easy to forget important tasks that aren't urgent, so make time for them.

Decide ahead of time what you're going to do at certain times each day. Schedule times not only to meet people but also to do things alone. Then you can make sure everything gets done.

32. ________ Are you smarter in the morning, afternoon or evening? Schedule difficult tasks for times you

feel good, saving easy ones for when you're tired.

Write down what you need to do and when. I keep two todo lists: one for the present tasks and one for larger projects I'm working on. 33. ________ And I don't get discouraged by looking at a long list of items I can't finish. I focus on the shorter list of each day's tasks.

34. ________When someone wants to give you a task, think carefully. Is it really important enough to spend your precious(宝贵的)time on? Could someone else do it instead?

35. ________ If you're in charge of running a meeting, keep it short. Reading articles or talking to friends online can also use up much of your time. Don't allow it.

In the end, using time well is about making a good plan and sticking to it.

A. Think about the time of day you work best.

B. That way I can make sure I don't forget anything.

C. Figure out(弄明白)which of your tasks is the most important.

Though I didn’t understand it. I could imagine every drawing in the cartoon, and I guessed what the story was about. At the same time I also dreamed I could speak English one day. How wonderful it would be! So when I started to learn English at school, I made up my mind to study hard at it
