2019-2020学年同步人教版高中英语必修三培优新方案练习:Unit 1 单元加餐练

单元加餐练Ⅰ.阅读理解Following Christmas dinner, my family was relaxing around the kitchen table. We were discussing the delicious meal we had just had. Dad had risen from his chair and was standing nearby. My nephew began playing with his new basketball around the table. Upon nearing Dad, he stopped. With shaking, wrinkled hands, Dad had reached out for the ball. He did not speak, and the boy looked at us in confusion. After a few seconds, he carefully passed the ball to Dad. I watched my father closely to see what he would do. A playful smile appeared on his face. Holding the ball and reaching forward, Dad bounced it on the floor and then caught it.This action was repeated. Smiling with satisfaction, he then turned towards us. Gently tossing (投掷) the ball away, Dad began a game of catch. The ball continued to be passed through pairs of outstretched hands. Cries of “Over here!”rang through the warm kitchen. Dad's active participation in this game was remarkable to me, since he had dementia (痴呆).This disease had robbed him of many memories and the recognition of people, places and points in time. Despite this, Dad clearly recognized the ball and what he could do with it.In my younger years, playing with Dad was rare. He worked hard and provided for us, but never showed nor shared much emotion. His favorite game was chess, which he once taught me how to play. But after his illness, connecting moments between father and son had been few before he took the basketball.I'm not sure how long we played the game. Watching the clock was not important. Dad happily led us until he began to tire.I know that that moment will certainly last forever. This Christmas, Dad gave me a special memory — one that I will always treasure.

1.The method the writer uses to develop the second paragraph is .A.offering analyses B.providing detailsC.giving examples D.making comparisons详细分析:选B写作手法题。

第二段描述了小侄子玩球,看到父亲时的困惑;父亲看到球又是如何反应的,都是细节描写,所以B项正确。

2.The author's father's active participation in the game surprised the author because .A.it was the first time he had taken part in such a gameB.he was able to recognize his family members clearlyC.he could have a rest and relax by playing the ball gameD.he could recognize the ball and react accordingly, despite his illness详细分析:选D推理判断题。

由第四段内容可知在患了痴呆之后,父亲能够反应敏捷,并跟我们玩游戏,这才是最令我记忆深刻并为之触动的,所以D项正确;A、C项文中没有提到;由第四段“This disease had robbed him of many memories and the recognition of people ...”可知B项错误。

3.What can we learn about the author's father from the text?A.His sickness made it difficult for him to recognize people.B.When the author was young, he spent a lot of time playing with him.C.He taught the author how to play basketball and the game of catch.D.He worked hard and liked to share his feelings with his family.详细分析:选A细节理解题。

由第四段“This disease had robbed him of many memories ...”可知A项正确;由第五段“In my younger years, playing with Dad was rare.”可知B项错误;由第五段“His favorite game was chess ...”可知父亲教“我”下棋,但没有提到教“我”打篮球或者玩传球游戏,所以C项错误;由第五段“... never showed nor shared much emotion”可知D项错误。

4.What would be the best title for this text?A.A Son's LoveB.A Father's SmilesC.The Happiness of a Sick FatherD.Unforgettable Memories at Christmas详细分析:选D标题归纳题。

本文主要讲述的是圣诞夜发生的关于父亲的难忘的事,所以D项最为恰当。

Ⅱ.阅读七选五As a parent, you must have a lot of concerns about the various skills you would like your child to acquire. Music is one of them. 1 On the other hand, it is great for a child's overall development if he or she has an interest in art.2 The concentration helps them with their grades. Their learning and communication skills will be better than others of their own age. They also develop lots of confidence and self-esteem.Another advantage of your child to learn music becomes apparent only at a later stage. 3It can be very beneficial and many top musicians have a very early exposure to music and connect this with their later success. You can start when your child is only a baby, by exposing him or her to a wide range of music at home. 4 And you could sustain your child's interest by having both of you singing together. Some parents start their children on a musical instrument as early as 3 years of age. This is great if the child is having a good time, especially when a child's brain has a wonderful capacity for mastering new skills. It goes without saying that you should not have to drag your child to lessons. You can be assured that nothing productive will come out of it. 5If you start your child on music lessons by the age of 5, taking care to encourage him or her and not to push him or her, your child will grow up into an accomplished adult with a well-rounded personality.A.It can have good effects on your child.B.This is selecting music as a career.C.And your child will have a lifelong dislike of music.D.Otherwise, you'll completely spoil your child's future.E.You could ensure that there is a song or tune played in the background.F.The advantages of teaching children to play a musical instrument are many.G.On the one hand, you can encourage your child's creativity and natural hobby.语篇解读:音乐可以培养人的情操,让孩子从小接触音乐益处颇多,甚至会让其受益终生。

Scientists have isolated the antibiotics from microbes(微生物) found either from these insects or in soil particles trapped with them when they were caught by sticky tree risen up to 130 million years ago.Present-day antibiotics have nearly all been isolated from microbes that use them as a form of defense against their enemies and competitors. But since the introduction of antibiotics into medicine 50 years ago, an alarming number have become ineffective because many bacteria have developed resistance to the drugs. Research over the past two years has uncovered at least four antibiotics from the microbes and one has been able to kill modern drug-resistant bacteria that can cause potentially deadly diseases in humans.Raul Cano, who has pioneered the research at the California Polytechnic State University, said the ancient antibiotics had been successful in fighting drug-resistant strains of staphylococcus (葡萄球菌),a “superbug” that had threatened the health of patients in hospitals across the globe. He now intends to establish whether theantibiotics might have side effects. “The problem is how toxic they are to other cells and h ow easy they are to purify”,said Cano.Cano's findings have been acknowledged as a breakthrough. A biotechnology company, Ambergene, has been set up to develop the antibiotics into drugs. If any ancient microbes are revived (复活) that resemble present-day disease, they will be destroyed in case they escape and cause new epidemics. Drug companies will be anxious to study the chemical structures of the prehistoric antibiotics to see how they differ from modern drugs. They hope that one ancient molecule could be used as a basis to produce a range of drugs. However, even the use of ancient antibiotics may not stop the rise of drug-resistant bacteria. Stuart Levy warned that the bacteria would eventually evolve to fight back against the new drugs. “There might a lso be an enzyme already out there that can degrade it. So the only way to keep the life of that antibiotic going is to use it sensibly and not excessively,” he said.28. What problem has man faced since the use of antibiotics as medicine according to the passage?A. Antibiotics are very difficult to purify.B. Antibiotics do harm to human health.C. Antibiotics resemble some disease-causing bacteria.D. Antibiotics are becoming ineffective in fighting against bacteria.29. Why are Cano's findings considered as a breakthrough in science?A. His discoveries will help revive ancient microbes.B. His discoveries will put an end to the rise of drug-resistant bacteria.C. The company Ambergene has applied the prehistoric antibiotics to drugs.D. The prehistoric antibiotics proved more deadly against drug-resistant modern bacteria.30.According to the last paragraph, what is Stuart Levy's attitude towards the use of ancient antibiotics ?A. Cautious.B. Contradictory.C. Confident.D. Critical.31. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A. Antibiotics-Dangerous or Not?B. Biotechnology Revealed Prehistoric SecretsC. Insect Antibiotics and Bacteria EvolutionD. Prehistoric Insects Might Help Invent New DrugsDNext week California will try to take cell phones from the hands of drivers, telling everyone from millionaires to workers that conversations behind the wheel must be on an earphone.Californians interviewed by Reuters mostly supported the law requiring hands-free phones in cars and banning cell phones entirely for drivers under 18, which will take effect on Tuesday, though they were puzzled by a loophole(漏洞) that allows seemingly more dangerous text messaging. Some were doubtful about lawmakers, who they blamed for failing to build more freeways or public transportation in the face of increasingly crowded roads in the nation’s most populous state and said hands-free conversations were not safer.KFI-AM radio talk-show host John Kobylt told Reuters. “It's s tupid because we’ve one over about seven different studies and each one of them says it’s the conversation that distracts you, not holding the phone.”State Senator Joe Simitian, who introduced the bill, said keeping both hands on the wheel was always safer. He expected his law to save hundreds of lives. The Democratic lawmaker was considering introducing a new law to ban text messaging inthe car, which he said wasn’t an issue when he began working on the first one in 2001.Connecticut, New Jersey and New York have already banned drivers from talking on hand-held cell phones. In New Jersey, police have issued 35,000 tickets for using a hand-held phone or texting while driving since the law went into effect on March 1.But Californians interviewed by Reuters expressed ambivalence.“On the one hand I don’t want to see people crash into each other, but I'm not going to get an ear thing.” 38-year-old bank employee Jason Fischer said in Los Angeles.32. We can infer from Paragraph 2 that______.A. most Californians hate to use an earphone while making a call in the carB. public transportation in California isn’t developed enoughC. in New Jersey few people use a hand-held phoneD.most of Californians are probably against the new law33. According to John Kobylt,_________.A. all the lawmakers are stupidB. holding the phone is safer than using an earphoneC. it isn’t dangerous to make a phone call while drivingD. it is the phone conversation while driving that is really dangerous34. The researchers examined findings from other studies where tea and coffee were often served at 70℃ or above。

Those studies were completed in Iran, China and South America。

In developed countries, health experts have linked esophageal cancer to smoking and alcoholic drinks. However, this form of cancer is more common in areas where people drink beverages (饮料) at very high temperatures。

(所给词的适当形式填空)二、阅读理解阅读理解It may seem as if Mother's Day was invented by a company named Hallmark, but people have been taking time on the calendar to give a shout-out to Mom for a long time. The Greeks and Romans had mother goddess festivals — although their celebrations didn't involve the menfolk taking their underappreciated mothers out to dinner. A more recent tradition wasMothering Sunday, which developed in the British Isles during the 16th century. On the fourth Sunday in April, young men and women who were living and working apart from their families were advised to return to their mothers' houses.Mother's Day as it is observed in the United States started in the 1850s with Ann Jarvis, a West Virginia woman who held "Mothers' Work Days" to promote health and hygiene(卫生) at home and in the workplace. During the Civil War, Jarvis organized women to improve sanitary conditions for soldiers on both sides, and after the war she became a peacemaker, furthering the cause by bringing together mothers of Union and Confederate soldiers and promoting a Mother's Day holiday.Jarvis's work inspired another 19th-century woman, Julia Ward Howe. In 1870 Howe published her "Mother's Day Proclamation", which envisioned the day not as appreciation of mothers by their children but as an opportunity for women to exercise their collective power for peace. Howe started holding annual Mother's Day celebrations in Boston, her hometown, but after about a decade she stopped footing the bill and the tradition faded away.It was Jarvis's daughter Anna who succeeded in getting Mother's Day recognized as a national holiday. After her mother died, in May 1905, Anna started holding yearly ceremony on the anniversary and conducting a tireless PR campaign to have the day made a holiday. In 1908 she succeeded in enlisting the support of John W anamaker, the Philadelphia department store magnate and advertising pioneer, and by 1912 West Virginia and a few other states had adopted Mother's Day. Two years later, President Woodrow Wilson signed a resolution declaring the second Sunday in May a national holiday. It wasn't long, though, before whatever ideals the day was supposed to celebrate were buried under an amount of greeting cards and candy. By the 1920s Anna Jarvis was campaigning against the holiday she had been instrumental in creating. "I wanted it to be a day of emotionalism, not profit," she said.16.The first paragraph suggests that .A.mothers didn't get enough appreciationB.Mother's Day was invented by HallmarkC.young people returned to their mothers' housesD.Greeks and Romans were the first to celebrate Mother's Day17.Who plays the most important role in creating Mother's Day?A.Ann Jarvis.B.Julia Ward Howe.C.Woodrow Wilson.D.Anna Jarvis.18.Why did Anna Jarvis object to Mother's Day at last?A.Because it was an emotional day.B.Because the festival was not profitable.C.Because the celebrations went against the original spirit.D.Because the day was buried under greeting cards and candy.19.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A.The Objection to Mother's DayB.The Argument on Celebrating Mother's DayC.The Story Behind the Creation of Mother's DayD.Different Form of Celebrations on Mother's Day阅读理解How's your vacation? I'm visiting my uncle in Spain. He lives in the sunny and beautiful city of Valencia, in Spain.Yesterday, I had great fun. My uncle took me to the tomato festival in Bunol, which is just 30 miles away from where my uncle lives. You have probably never heard of this festival before. Neither have I. The tomato festival is called "La Tomatina" in Spanish. It is the biggest and messiest tomato fight in the world. When we first got to the square where the festival took place, it was very crowded with people from all around the world, and many trucks were carrying tomatoes. My uncle told me the crowded people here were around 38,000 and this was more than four times the population of Bunol. The tomato fight started as soon as the first banger was beaten. Then everyone including me started throwing tomatoes at each other. I took red tomatoes and threw them at anyone that ran, moved, bent down, or turned around. Tomatoes must be squashed(捏扁) before people threw them in order not to hurt anybody. After a little while, the streets, people and nearby buildings were splashed(溅起) with red. He now intends to establish whether the antibiotics might have side effects. “The problem is how toxic they are to other cells and how easy they are to purify”,said Cano.Cano's findings have been acknowledged as a breakthrough. “There might also be an enzyme already out there that can degrade it. So the only way to keep the life of that antibiotic going is to use it sensibly and not excessively,” he said.28. What problem has man faced since the use of antibiotics as medicineaccording to the passage?A. Some were doubtful about lawmakers, who they blamed for failing to build more freeways or public transportation in the face of increasingly crowded roads in the nation’s most populous stat e and said hands-free conversations were not safer.KFI-AM radio talk-show host John Kobylt told Reuters. “It's stupid because we’ve one over about seven different studies and each one of them says it’s the conversation that distracts you, not holding the phone.”State Senator Joe Simitian, who introduced the bill, said keeping both hands on the wheel was always safer. He expected his law to save hundreds of lives. The Democratic lawmaker was considering introducing a new law to ban text messaging in the ca r, which he said wasn’t an issue when he began working on the first one in 2001.Connecticut, New Jersey and New York have already banned drivers from talking on hand-held cell phones.
