Nobody expected to find them there, outside the city walls. The broken bones of 30 or 40 bodies lay with one on top of the other. It looked bad. There was no sign of battle (战斗). Everyone wondered why all these people had died at the same moment. Men came day after day to dig and remove the earth. They worked with great care, like detectives. Each day something new was discovered. Every bone was studied. Soft brushes were used so that nothing was damaged. It all took a very long time, and there were many puzzles.

Deep in the ground they found an important secret. Below the bodies there was a building made of bricks. Inside it lay the body of a woman. There were many things of value in the building with her — gold for her head, neck and arms, and clothes covered with gold. It was clear that the woman had been a queen. An election (选举,动词:elect) year is one in which all numbers are divisible (可整除的) by four —1944, 1948, etc. Since 1840, American presidents elected in years ending in zero have been destined (命中注定的) to die in office. A Insects (昆虫) are a very healthy food. They have almost as much protein (蛋白质) as meat from a pig or cow and are low in fat. Eating insects is also very good for the environment since they need less land and water than larger animals. Marcel Dicke, who studies insects, explained in a talk how insects also produce more meat from the food they eat. For example, imagine a farmer feeds a cow 10 pounds of food. Those 10 pounds of food produce about 1 pound of meat for people to eat. However, imagine the farmer gives a certain number of insects 10 pounds of food. Those 10 pounds of food produce 9 pounds of meat for people to eat! Eating more insects can also help people in poor areas. Many people can raise and sell insects, which can provide jobs and food. But insects will not replace (替代) animal meat very quickly. First, people in some countries would have to change how they think about eating insects. Many people in North America and Europe eat a lot of meat like beef and pork. But they do not traditionally eat insects. In fact, for many people in the west, eating insects sounds crazy! They believe insects are dirty and dangerous. Insects make them feel uncomfortable. Some people are trying to deal with this problem. For example, David George Gordon wrote a book named “The Eat-A-B ug Cookbook”, which tries to show people that insects can be delicious. Other insect experts travel around telling people about the benefits (好处) of eating insects. But they still have a lot of work to do. 21. Eating insects _____. A. is not healthy B. makes people put on fat

A Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don't give friendship back. That is why some friendships don't last long. To have a friend, you must learn to be one. You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous; be understanding. Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you do not tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven't been honest, you may lose your friend's trust. Good friends always rely on one another to speak and act honestly. Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You do not have to give your lunch money or your clothes. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know better. Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with each other. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend's place so that you can understand the problem better. No two friendships are exactly alike. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friends, you must practice honesty, generosity and understanding. 1.Some friendships don't last long because _____. A. there are too many people who want to make friends B. some people receive friendship but don't give friendship back C. those who give others friendship receive friendship from others D. they don't know friendship is something serious 2. According to the passage, honesty is _____. A. something countable B. the base of friendship C. as important as money D. more important than anything else 3. Which of the following isn't mentioned in the passage.? _____. A. Always tell your friends the truth. B. Sharing your mind with your friends is of great value. C. Discussing your problems with your friends often helps to solve the problem. D. A friend who gives you his lunch money is a true friend. 4. In the third paragraph, the underlined word they refers to (指) _____. A. generosity and friendship B. generosity and sharing C. your ideas and feelings D. your clothes B If you go into the forest with friends, stay with them. If you don‘t,you may get lost. If you get lost, this is what you should do. Sit down and stay where you are. Don’t try to find your friends—let them find you. You can help them find you by staying in one place. There is another way to help your friends or other people to find you. You can shout or whistle three times. Stop. Then shout or whistle three times again. Any signal given three times is a call for help. Keep up shouting or whistling. Always three times together. When people hear you, they will know that you are not just making a noise for fun. They will let you know that they have heard your signal. They will give you two shouts or two whistles. When a signal is given twice,it is an answer to a call for help. If you don‘t think that you will get help before night comes, try to make a little house with branches. Make yourself a bed with leaves and grass. When you need some water, you have to leave your little branch house to look for it. Don’t just walk away. Pick off small branches and drop them as you walk in order to go back again easily. When you are lost, the most important thing to do is to stay in one place. 5.Which signal is a call for help? A.shouting here and there B.crying twice C.shouting or whistling three times together D. whistling every where in the forest 6.When you hear two shouts or two whistles, you know that ____________________.
