The central government has invested much in the improvement of infrastructures, such as transportation, environment; Citizens are busy learning English. And I, as a college student, also want to contribute to the preparation work. Taking all the factors into account, I think to be a volunteer in Beijing Olympic Games is practical.

To be a volunteer in Games is a demanding task. The volunteers much speak fluent English and can communicate with the foreign guests without difficulty. Besides, the volunteers should have a good knowledge about Chinese culture so that the foreign guests can consult them for more information of China.

At present, I’m not so eligible for a volunteer, but I’m trying my best to meet the requirement. I am taking a oral English course in my spare time and it seems to help. Also, I am reading some tourism-related books, which introduces the culture and history of the places of interest. In the following 2 years, I’m confident that I can grow into a qualified volunteer and make some contribution to the Olympic Games 2008.
