Period 5 Task Writing a letter to a friend Objectives:

1. Discuss friendship and practise agreeing and disagreeing.

2. Write a letter to a friend.

3. Learn and practise language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing. Focus and difficulties:

Skills building 1:Writing down the answers

1. Brainstorming:

What do you do when you have a personal problem?

Would you talk to your parents or your friends and ask them for advice?

Have you ever called a radio programme for advice?

2. Read the leaflet about Teen Talk and do the exercise in Part A

Skills building 2: Agreeing and disagreeing

1. Go through the expressions.

2. suffer vi.(因疾病、痛苦、悲伤等)受苦,受难vt.遭受,蒙受;经历;忍受, 忍耐

suffer用作及物动词,相当于experience,表示“遭受、经历不愉快之事”,但没有被动语态。后常接pain, defeat, loss, poverty, punishment, hunger, hardship等名词。

suffer用作不及物动词,常与介词from连用。意为“受……之苦;患……病”或“因……而感到不舒服或受到损害”。多半接能导致痛苦或不幸的名词。“患……病”通常只能用suffer from。
