“Everything happens for the best.” Whenever I faced disappointment, my mother would say this to me.
After I graduated from college in 2002, I decided to find a job in a radio station as a sports announcer(播音员)．I went to Chicago and knocked at the door of every station. But unluckily, I was refused every time.

In the famous Chinese saying “you take Yangguan Road, and I’ll cross the log bridge”, why does Yangguan Road refer to an open road?
Yangguan Road was an open road that crossed the Yangguan Pass (阳关) in ancient China. It was located in Dunhuang, Gansu in northwest China. The Yangguan and Yumenguan passes were important to the Western Regions (西域), or the Central Asian countries that existed (存在）during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220).
In Chinese, yang means “sunny”, but it can also mean “south” (the sunny side of a hill being the southern side). Yangguan was therefore named because it lies to the south of the Yumenguan Pass.
Because it was the last stop for Chinese travelers leaving China to the Western Regions, Yangguan is usually connected with the parting (分离) of ways in Chinese literature. In one of his most famous poems, Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei wrote, “West of the sunny pass no more friends will be seen” (西出阳关无故人).
Yangguan Pass was also an important landmark (地标) on the ancient Silk Road. People from all over the world would do business along the Yangguan Road. The road used to be very broad and busy. It is said that it could have been as wide as 100 meters in some parts. Therefore,
