My View on Invention

Drawing a comparison between modern life and ancient life, we cannot imagine what life will be like now without invention. Invention must be attached great importance to, as it is invention that contributes to the advancement of our society. There are several examples which can be cited to illustrate this concept. I can think of no better illustration than the following one. If Edison hadn't invented the light bulb, we would have lived a life as the blind in the night.

Given that invention plays such an essential role in our life, what can we do to cultivate this precious spirit? For one thing, it is advisable for the social media and publicity department to vigorously inform the public of the importance of invention. For another, the relevant authority should set up favorable regulations to encourage invention. For example, they can set up the practice of giving premiums or issuing patent certificate to inventors.

Finally, I want to use the following saying as our mutual encouragement, “Invention is the spirit of human being’s progress.” At no time should we underestimate the power of invention. Therefore, when an idea comes to your mind next time, just make your own invention.

With the improvement of living standards, holiday is occupying a more and more prominent position in Chinese people’s life. In the past, making a living takes most of Chinese people’s time, which gives them rare chance to go off on a trip. However, tourism has undergone rapid growth in China for the past few years. The prosperity of economy and the emergence of the affluent middle class trigger an unprecedented tourism boom. Not only does domestic traveling become common, but traveling abroad is also enjoying an increasing popularity among Chinese people. During the National Day holidays in 2016, tourism consumption amounts to more than 400 billion yuan. According to the statistical data by the World Trade Organization, China will have become the world's largest tourism country by 2020, and she will also see the fastest growth in overseas traveling expenditure in the next few years.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on innovation. Your essay should include the importance of innovation and measures to be taken to encourage innovation. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

My View on Innovation

I’m not sure if you have heard one of Steve Jobs’ famous remarks, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower”, which stresses the significance of innovation. It goes without saying that innovation can promote the advancement of society and is the most essential quality for anyone who wants to achieve success. With innovation, any progress will be possible; however, once indulged in tradition, everything will remain stagnant.

Therefore, by some means or other we must come to know how to be innovative. On the one hand, from the standpoint of a nation, the government should encourage innovativeness and foster the mindset of continuous learning. Only by doing this can our nation achieve new breakthroughs in all walks of life. On the other hand, from the perspective of individuals, we should enrich our knowledge reserves and arm ourselves with up-to-date knowledge. Only when we are equipped with vast stores of knowledge can we think out different methods when solving a problem.

We should always commit it to our memory that innovation is of great significance to us all. In our daily life, we need to develop the habit of applying new thoughts and methods into practice.

As China’s economy surges, so does the number of people learning Chinese, which makes it become one of the favorite languages to be learned in the world. In recent years, Chinese universities have also made notable gains in the international university league table. Owing to the great progress of China’s education, it’s no wonder that China has become one of the most popular destinations for overseas students to study abroad. In 2015, nearly four hundred thousand international students flocked into China to study. Their courses of study are no longer confined to the Chinese language and culture, but include Science and Engineering. In the global education market, American and Britain still play a leading role, but China is rapidly coming up.

Part ⅠWriting (30 minutes)

The Significance of Creation

Throughout the ages, we have concluded a number of factors that contribute to success, among which is creation. Just as the saying goes, “There is no doubt that creation is the most important human resource of all.” Not only is creation the force driving economy and society to advance, but it is also essential to the development of individuals. Those who often come up with new ideas often turn out to be easy to achieve success while a man who always sticks to habit and experience can hardly create new things.

In terms of giving measures to encourage creation, I will list the following ones. On the one hand, the public are expected to realize the significance of creation, so the social media should play its due role in advocating the value of innovation and encouraging the public to cultivate awareness of creation. On the other hand, those who are equipped with creative thinking deserve some kind of praise, both materially and spiritually.

Creation has been a hot word for a long time and we cannot emphasize the importance of creation too much. Therefore, we should spare no effort to learn knowledge as much as possible to prepare ourselves to be creative people.

Agriculture is a fundamental industry in China, which involves 300 million farmers. China ranks first in agricultural production worldwide, with rice, wheat and beans being the main crops. Although accounting for only 10 percent of arable land worldwide, China feed 20% of the world’s population. The cultivation of rice in Chi na can date back to 7,700 years ago. Prior to the use of agricultural machinery and chemical fertilizer, hardworking and creative Chinese farmers had begun to adopt various ways to increase crop yields. The latest development of agriculture in China lies in the promotion of organic farming, which can accomplish multiple goals at the same time, such as food safety, public health and sustainable development.

Part I Writing (30 minutes) Directions: Suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to attend college at home or abroad, write an essay to state your opinion. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. 【参考范文】 Whether to Attend College at Home or Abroad? Currently, with studying abroad gains mounting popularity among people, there is a heated debate about whether to attend college at home or abroad. Opinions on this topic vary from person to person. Some see more benefits in studying at home while others claim that studying abroad is a more ideal choice as it’s more challenging. Personally, I am a strong favorer of the latter view. Listed below are the reasons for my advice. First of all, attending college abroad provides an opportunity to broaden one’s experience and mind. You can acquire cross-cultural experiences and gain new perspectives on your chosen field of study. In addition, studying abroad helps you to polish your social skills; you can make friends with different people with different background. Thirdly, overseas studying is conducive to the formation of an independent, autonomous and tenacious personality, which will ultimately benefit the achievement of our life goals. Just as an old saying goes: “It is better to travel thousand miles than to read ten thousand books.” Then studying abroad can not only enable us to reap in our books, but also in our trips. And this is why attending college abroad is a preferable selection for me. 【作文】 题目: Directions: Suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to attend a vocational college or a university, write an essay to state your opinion. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. 参考范文: With the flourish of education industry, modern students are faced with more alternatives to continue their further education. Both attending a vocational college or a university serves as two main options for the high school graduates. In terms of which to choose and what to be taken into consideration, I shall advise as follows: Primarily, self-orientation matters the most when it comes to a issue like this. Obviously, the main task of vocational college is cultivating human resource with practical capability. Instead, university serves as the cradle of academic researchers in different areas. Therefore, being aware of your self-expectation with a clear future blueprint lays a foundation for this important decision. Apart from what has been mentioned above, personal interest also plays a key role in it. For both passion and motivation are derived from interest, which not only decide how far you can reach academically and professionally but also how happy and fulfilled you will be . To sum up, a clear recognition of self orientation and personal interest will decide whether you will tick the box of vocational college or university. Only in this way can we get the most out of the further education.
