The first fare tale I read was the Snow White, in which the prince fell in love with the beautiful princess on his first sight of her. He coul dn’t help but kiss the poisoned princess in the crystal coffin, it happened to relieve the magic, and then the princess woke up and saw the handsome young prince; she also fell in love with him at once.Almost every love story I have read in books, watched in TV or been told is about how a charming guy fall in love with a pretty girl, thus, a deeply-rooted conviction is gradually established—love is largely based on nice appearance. The conviction hasn’t been challenged till I came across Jane Eyre.It is doubtless that Jane Eyre is not pretty at all, and Mr. Rochester is not handsome too. However, the great love between them touches every reader. The first time they met was in a wood, and Mr. Rochester fell down from his horse while Jane Eyre was right on her way to the village there. She helped him; however, Mr. Rochester didn’t have good impression upon her. After some time, Mr. Rochester found Jane Eyre was smart, upright, knowledgeable, and reliable, he fell delighted and interesting to talk with little Jane Eyre. Although most times Jane Eyre retorted hisideas, he didn’t feel angry by her uprightness and brightness, on the contrary, he gradually became inclined to her.Apparently, compared Jane Eyre with Miss Ingram, who was born in a noble family and who had a charming face and hot figure, Jane Eyre was like a little ugly duck. In everyone’s eye, Miss Ingram and Mr. Rochester were matched perfectly, and Miss Ingram showed her tendency to Mr. Rochester. But Mr. Rochester couldn’t get any pleasure by her company. At the beginning of the novel, Jane is an isolated, powerless ten-year-old girl living with her aunt and cousins who dislike her. But latter she grows in strength as the novel progresses. When working as a governess at Thornfield, she feels both of the pleasures and pains of love through her relationship with Edward Rochester, the master of the Thornfield Manor. A Book Report on Jane Eyre
Even though I have heard about this famous literature for ten years, I’ve never read it until this term, when our English teacher recommended us to read an English novel to enhance our comprehensive ability. However, when finished the first part of it, I have been absorbed in it because I’m eager to know what this miserable but stubborn little girl would experience.
Jane is an orphan whose parents passed away when she was very young. She had a tragic childhood and had been abused and bullied a lot in Gateshead Hall and Lowood orphanage. After went through several years’ tough life andmissed her best friend, she left this hell.
Then she came to Thornfield Manoras a tutor, where she fell in love with the gloomy and moody master, Rochester, who was twenty years older than her. But their love was blockedby someone who confirmed that Rochester had married the doolally woman closed in the back room. Sad and depressed, Jane left Rochester for a new living.After refus ed John’s loveless proposal, she divided the inheritance with him and left for Thornfield.Finding that the woman had died and Rochester was injured, she finally married with Rochester and gained the eudemonic life she expected.
It’s difficult to encapsulate Jane’s miserable and complicated experience into a few words. As a little weak girl, Jane’s suffer is really unfair. But what amazes me is not only her tough experience, but her strong will to live a better life. Although lived in a world where women’s right and dignity were not respected, she didn’t give in to vicious people and were brave enough to struggle for her felicity. She is such a stubborn and independent girl that lives me a deep impression.
The author, Charlotte Brontë, made this novel an appropriate autobiography for herself. She had a similar experience with Jane, which was Jane’s hard Lowood life in the book. They both suffered hunger and coldness, and were forced to many tiresome books. All this bitter experience left a horrible impression on Charlotte, which contributed to the complement of this book.
Another highlight in this novel is Jane’s love with Rochester. They are both the victim of conventional custom. Rochester was tricked when he was young and married a disgusting woman he didn’t love. He couldn’t desert her according to some stiff public rull but also couldn’t stand her decadent life. So he traveled around the world in order to find his real love. Jane’s also an unlucky girl who met her love after a lot of hardness but still couldn’t have it well. Although John had proposal to her, he didn’t proposal for love but for the reason that Jane was suitable for a minister’s wife. So Jane refused him.。
