中国诗人和文人向着重“气”字，我们现在把这个“气”字研究一番，就可以知道模仿筋肉活动的道理。
曾国藩在《家训》里说过一段话：声本于气，所以想得古人之气，不得不求之于声；求之于声，即不終不朗诵。
朗诵既久，则古人之声就可以在我的喉舌筋肉上留下痕迹，到我自己下笔时，喉舌也自然顺这个痕迹而活动，所谓“必有句调奔赴腕下”。
从此可知从前人所谓“气”也就是一种筋肉技巧了。
诗文都以语言文字为媒介。
做诗文的人一要懂得字义，二要懂得字音，三要懂得字句的排列法，四要懂得某字某句的音义对于读者所产生的影响。
这四样都是专门的学问。
前人对于这些学问已逐渐蓄积起许多经验和成绩，我们自己既不能件件去发明，就不冉不利用前人的经验和成绩。
