二、课程性质和任务

《英语国家概况》是一门集英语国家背景知识和英语语言知识为一体的英语业必修课,是知识性与实用性相结合的英语专业基础课程,旨在向学生介绍所学语言国家的社会和文化等背景知识,拓宽其知识面,帮助学生了解主要英语国家的社会与文化概貌,使其从文化和社会的角度更加深刻地理解和掌握所学语言知识和技能。课程系统介绍主要英语国家的地理、历史、政治、经济等方面的情况;了解主要英语国家的文化传统,风俗习惯及社会生活其它方面的知识,培养既具有一定的语言水平,又理解西方文化的外语人才。

本课程的目的在于使学生了解主要英语国家的基本概况,包括历史、地理、社会、经济、政治、教育等方面的情况及其文化传统,提高学生对文化差异的敏感性、宽容性和处理文化差异的灵活性,培养学生跨文化交际能力。本课程包括主要英语国家的地理、历史、政体制度、教育、新闻媒体、风俗习惯等内容,目的在于开阔学生的视野,扩大他们的知识面,并注意借鉴最新研究成果,合理吸收最新知识,进一步增强其实用性。教学的重点是帮助学生了解这些国家的政治、历史、地理、社会、文化、教育等概况。学习的重点在于广泛地了解和阅读,以每章节后面所列的重点问题和老师指出的重点作为重点学习和探讨的内容。

三、课程教学目标

本课程的教学目标是使本专业学生了解美国和英国这两个主要英语国家的地理、历史、经济、政治等方面的概况,了解英语国家的文化传统、风俗习惯和社会生活的其它情况,使学生养成不断联系当前实际,密切关注国际局势的习惯,并能迅速准确地查阅资料,在储备丰富背景知识的同时,巩固和提高英语水平。提高学生在跨文化语言运用过程中对文化差异的敏感性、宽容性和处理文化差异的灵活性,从而改善学生的跨文化语言运用能力。

四、理论教学环节和基本要求

本课程重点是以英语为凭借,全面而系统地向学生介绍世界主要英语国家的基本概况,从而使学生系统地了解这些国家的地理、历史、文化、宗教、社会生活、政治制度、经济状况等方面的情况来培养学生的跨文化交际能力,同时也可以促进加强学生的语言学习,并以批判的眼光分析历史事件。难点是英语国家的政治制度有很大的相似度,又有一定的差异性,以及在教学过程中要不断将英美与我国进行中西文化对比。重点章节是第一章、第二章、第四章、第七章。难点章节是第五章和第六章。

通过本课程的学习,使学生理解和掌握英美国家重要历史变革、重要人物、政治体制、经济政策。分析中西文化的差异,深刻理解洋为中用,求同存异的思想。具体要求如下:

1.专业能力:进一步扎实学生的英语基础,扩大词汇量,扩大阅读量,用英语进行展示和演讲,学以致用,加强语言表达的流利性和准确性。能运用英语讨论和讲解地理、历史等相关的学科知识。能运用英语分析和阐述与生活紧密相关的政治、经济和文化等问题,培养良好的思辨能力。

2.方法能力:增强学生们对文化差异的敏感性和宽容性,及处理这些文化差异的灵活性。渗透积极向上的西方人文思想,提升学生的人文素养,培养学生独立自信、诚信守法、回报社会的良好操守。在学习中学会合作,具有团队精神和协作精神,有利于建立良好的人际关系。

本课程的教学理念是“一核心,两主体”,该教学模式基于建构理论的基础上,在国内文化知识类课程处于领先地位。课程实施“培养学生独立发现,思考、钻研、探索

的创新式思维为核心,以学生的自主探究活动为第一主体,以教师的组织、引导、帮助和促进为第二主体。”的英语教学模式。在该教学模式中,教师以培养学生的创新能力为核心,学生是发现者、探索者,教师是引导者;强调立体、多维的英美文化知识吸收,强调中西文化对比;强调英美国家的发展历史给我国经济发展的启示,强调面授教学与发现式学习的结合;强调传统学习资源与现代媒体的结合;强调知识文化和交际文化能力的培养。采用课堂教学和课外学习相结合的方法。在整个教学过程中教师要发挥“导”而不是“教”的作用,做到“精教重导”,以利于学生交际能力的培养。为体现“以学生为中心”的教学思想,结合学生的具体情况,拟将教师讲解、小组讨论和个人陈述等教学方法结合起来,并辅以网络平台和多媒体的教学手段。

考核方式采用闭卷考试,评价方式主要应用终结性评价辅以形成性评价,即形成性评价主要考核学生的出勤,课堂表现,作业,小论文等;终结性评价为笔试闭卷,考试题型为选择,填空,名词解释,判断以及简答题等多种题型。

《英语国家概况》课程标准 课程代码: 课程名称:英语国家概况 适用专业(群):英语 1.前言 1.1 课程性质与任务 本课程是英语专业以及相关英语专业的一门核心课程,同时也是一门集英语国家背景知识和英语语言知识为一体的英语专业必修课程。因为外语教学不仅要向学生传授语言知识,还应让学生了解目的语国家的文化背景,所以该课程也是作为他们深化英语语言基础和提高交流能力的重要部分。 它是一门介绍英语国家(包括英国、美国、加拿大、澳大利亚、新西兰)社会文化综合背景知识的课程。所以它也是一门实用性很强的文化知识课程,内容所涉及的知识领域繁多复杂,例如地理、历史、经济、政体、教育、艺术、哲学、性格、民俗、宗教等。本课程为英语专业各阶段各门课程提供一个大的社会文化背景,促进各门课程之间的互动和交融,从而加深学生对英语语言、文学及文化的理解和掌握。所以本课程的教学任务是使学生了解主要英语国家的历史、地理、社会、经济、教育等方面的情况及其文化传统,提高学生对文化差异的敏感性、宽容性和处理文化差异的灵活性,培养学生跨文化交际能力。 1.2 设计思路 本课程主要以启发学生在大学阶段的学习自主性、分析思考的能动性、和在知识积累基础上的创造性为导向,以认识和解读英语国家文化为切入点,深化语言学习与文化学习的内涵关联,提升学习语言的实效和在真实世界中的应用能力。具体教学实施中,通过把本课程中所要求掌握的国家的社会和文化等基础背景知识按相关过程分成若干项目,通过课堂作业,讨论以及学生展示的方法,使学生能够分析和对照英美文化与中国文化间的差异,从而掌握在跨文化交际过程中培养较好的表达能力。本课程总学时36学时,2学分。 2、课程培养目标 通过对本课程教学,培养学生具有一定的创新思维能力、科学的工作方法以及解决问题的能力,开阔学生的视野,扩大知识面,弥补文化背景知识的不足,为大学阶段的外语学习和以后的英语教学工作打下良好的基础。 在知识方面,使学生对英美两国的地理风貌、重大历史事件、重要历史文件、政体制度、教育制度、家庭生活、风俗习惯、价值观念等有一个较系统和清楚的了解,使语言教学与文化知识紧密结合,提高学生跨文化交际能力及文化思考力。 在素质方面,提高学生自身的文化修养、专业素养,在提高学生文化意识的基础上,提高学生的文化观察能力、文化思索能力、文化甄别能力和文化探索能力。 在能力方面,培养学生养成良好的阅读习惯,以及团结合作精神来解决相关问题。 3、课程内容、要求及教学设计 全课程共分五部分。分别介绍五个国家(英国、美国、加拿大、澳大利亚、新西兰)的概况,涉及面覆盖了历史、地理、政治、经济、社会、文化、教育、娱乐等方面。同时,通
