As can be seen from the chart，changes have taken place in English materials purchase made by the senior students in our school in the early 1990s and in 2003. In 2003，there are more new choices for students，like Internet (10%) and DC/DVD(30%). In the early 1990s there were only tapes (33%) and reference books (67%). At the same time，the average expense on English materials has increased from 60 yuan in the early 1990s to 170 yuan in 2003. From these，we know that there are more choices of materials on English learning and students spend more money on them.

There are several main reasons for this change. For one thing，many students realize the importance of learning English. English is widely used all over the world. Second，with the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games approaching，learning English has become more popular.
