牛津译林必修3第三单元综合小测Ⅰ.阅读理解(2020·广东省高考适应性考试)The traditional Chinese Longtaitou Festival, or Dragon-Head-Raising Festival, falls on the second day of the second lunar month every year, and recognizes the start of spring and farming. This year it falls on March 8.Ancient people believed that after this day, rainfall increases because the rain-bringing Dragon King has awakened from his winter sleep. A well-known phrase goes, “Er yue er, long tai tou,”meaning, “On the second day of the second month, the dragon lifts his head.”The festival celebrates ancient agrarian Chinese culture, and while some of traditional ways to celebrate it are no longer practiced, others continue to exist. The most famous tradition is getting a haircut. Some believe that going to the barber on this day gets rid of bad luck, while others believe getting a haircut during the first month of the lunar calendar brings bad luck.Another saying warns that cutting your hair in the first month will cause your uncle to die. Although today few pay attention to it, it was once a tradition to line up outside barber shops on the day of Longtaitou.People eat toufu balls in East China's Fujian Province during the festival, and often make tofu and vegetable balls to pray for family and business. Fried beans are the traditional festival food for people in parts of Shandong Province. Eating Chengyao cakes, which are made with sticky rice, during the festival is a tradition in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu Province, owing to the saying, “If you eat Chengyao on Longtaitou, your waist won't hurt all year.” Meanwhile other foods, like dumplings, spring rolls and popcorn, are named after dragon body parts to mark the day. Noodles are dragon's beard (long xu), dumplings are dragon's ears (long er), spring rolls are dragon's scales (long lin), and popcorn dragon seeds (long zi).1.What did ancient people believe after Dragon-Head-Raising Festival?A. All this time, the Navy's historical records had listed an incorrect site of the submarine. With the help of autonomous underwater vehicles, remotely operated vehicles and advanced imaging technology, the team discovered the Grayback about 100 miles from the area where it was originally thought to have gone down. The discovery was officially confirmed by the Navy.On January 28, 1944, the Grayback set sail from Pearl Harbor for the East China Sea. About a month later, the submarine reported sinking two Japanese ships on February 19. So when she first learned of the discovery, she felt a mixture of shock, disbelief and sadness. Eventually, though, those feelings turned into relief, comfort and peace. Hurney said in a statement, "I believe it will allow healing as relatives of crew members come together to share their stories." Neyland, a Navy officer, said in a statement, "Each discovery of a sunken craft is an opportunity to remember and honor the service of our sailors."1.Why couldn't the submarine be found before?A.There was no need to find it.B.The technology was not so advanced.C.No information about the submarine was obtained.D.The Navy was wrong in translating records from Japanese into English.2.How was the submarine located?A.By accident.B.By modern technology.C.By the Navy's hard work.D.By the families' determination.3.What can we learn from the text?A.The Grayback would be recovered soon.B.Peopled feelings about the discovery were different.C.The Grayback was the most successful submarine of World War Ⅱ.D.The Grayback was supposed to reach the destination on April 7.4.What is the main idea of this text?A.A World War Ⅱ submarine was discovered.B.Tim Taylor and his team announced a new discovery.C.An opportunity to remember and honor the service of sailors.D.A mistake the Navy made in translating the Japanese war records.四、写作你校文学社将举办以"I Like Reading"为主题的征文活动,你打算投稿。

1 M3u3 英语课后练习 A My family and I never talked about school as the ticket to a future. I was in the classroom, but I wasn’t there to learn to write, read or even speak. When it was my turn to read, I wanted to hide. I was 13 years old, but I already hated being who I was. I had an English teacher, Mr. Creech, who knew I couldn’t read. In one of my first lessons the teacher said that anyone who had a reading age below six had to stand up. I felt so embarrassed. But at the same time, it made me realize that I needed to change the situation. I was determined it wouldn’t happen again. Later that day, Mr. Creech encouraged me and promised he would try his best to help me learn to read. From then on, I never gave up practicing reading. Then when I was 41 years old, one day, I planned to fly back to Texas to visit my friends and family. On my way from the airport, I saw Mr. Creech buying himself a drink. I rushed over and reached into my pocket to pay for him. "Do I know you?" he asked. "Yes, sir, you do know me," I answered excitedly. "My name is Anthony Hamilton. You taught me English." The look on his face told me that he remembered the boy he’d once encouraged. "I’m so glad I had a chance to see you," I said. "And Mr. Creech, I have great news to share." I told him I had learned to read. But that wasn’t all. I had become a published author and an active speaker. "The next time you get another Anthony Hamilton in your classroom, please encourage him to read as well," I added. The experts say what once worried me has a name: dyslexia (诵读困难). But I can tell you it was a lack of desire for education. 1.Why did the author want to hide? A.Because he couldn’t read at all. B. Because he felt sorry for himself. C. Because he hated being laughed at. D. Because he didn’t have a ticket. 2.Which of the following could best describe Mr. Creech? A.Emotional and devoted. B. Demanding and enthusiastic. C. Considerate and dutiful . D. Friendly and ambitious. 3.Why couldn’t the author read before meeting Mr. Creech? A. Because his reading age was not long enough. B. Because he didn’t have inner driving force(力量) to learn to read. C. Because he was afraid of reading before the class. D. Because his parents didn’t teach him how to read. 4.What can we infer from the passage? A. Mr. Creech taught two Anthony Hamiltons. B. Dyslexia made the author unable to read. C. The author had become an active speaker. D.The author was grateful(感激的) to Mr. Creech. 2

B Not too many decades ago it seemed “obvious” both to the general public and to sociologists that modern society has changed people’s natural relations, loosened their responsibilities to kin (亲戚) and neighbors, and substituted in their place superficial relationships with passing acquaintances. However, in recent years a growing body of research has revealed that the “obvious” is not true. It seems that if you are a city resident, you typically know a smaller proportion of your neighbors than you do if you are a resident of a smaller community. But, for the most part, this fact has few significant consequences. It does not necessarily follow that if you know few of your neighbors you will know no one else. Even in very large cities, people maintain close social ties within small, private social worlds. Indeed, the number and quality of meaningful relationships do not differ between more and less urban people. Small-town residents are more involved with kin than are big-city residents. Yet city dwellers compensate by developing friendships with people who share similar interests and activities. Urbanism many produce a different style of life, but the quality of life does not differ between town and city. Nor are residents of large communities any likelier to display psychological symptoms of stress or alienation, a feeling of not belonging, than are residents of smaller communities. However, city dwellers do worry more about crime, and this leads them to a distrust of strangers. These findings do not imply that urbanism makes little or no difference. If neighbors are strangers to one another, they are less likely to sweep the sidewalk of an elderly couple living next door or keep an eye out for young trouble makers. Moreover, as Wirth suggested, there may be a link between a community’s population size and its social heterogeneity (多样性). For instance, sociologists have found much evidence that the size of a community is associated with bad behavior including gambling, drugs, etc. Large-city urbanities are also more likely than their small-town counterparts to have a cosmopolitan(见多识广)outlook, to display less responsibility to traditional kinship roles, to vote for leftist political candidates, and to be tolerant of nontraditional religious groups, unpopular political groups, and so-called undesirables. Everything considered, heterogeneity and unusual behavior seem to be outcomes of large population size. 5.Which of the following statements best describes the organization of the first paragraph? A. An argument is examined and possible solutions given. B. Two contrasting views are presented. C. Research results concerning the quality of urban life are presented in order of time.
