Section B

Step 1Warming-up

Show a picture of a girl who feels stressed out and make a conversation with a student about the picture.

—What’s wrong with the girl?

—She’s too stressed out.

—What should she do? Can you give her some advice?

(Let the students discuss the problem and give some advice)

S1: Why not hang out with her friends?

S2: She could play sports.

S3: She could play computer games.

S4: She could listen to music and read some books.

Step 2Practice

Work on 1b:

1.Ask one student to read the activities in 1a. Explain some activities to the students.

2.What activities do you like to do to lower your stress? Order them [1-8] with 1 being the most favorite thing you do to lower stress.

3.Let the students discuss with their deskmates and then order them.

4.Let some students say their answers and then explain them.

Step 3Talking

Let some students talk about how they lower their stress.

S1: I always hang out with my friends to lower stress.

S2: I like to listen to music to lower stress.

Step 4Listening

Work on 1c:

1.Tell the students to read the sentences in 1c first.

2.Play the recording for the students. For the first time, the students just need to listen. Play the recording again and let students check the problems Wei Ming talks about.

3.Check the answers.

Work on 1d:

1.Let the students read the sentences in 1d first. Tell them to listen to the recording and fill in the blanks.

2.Play the recording again for the students to listen and write.

3.Check the answers with the class.

Step 5Pair-work

1.Work in pairs. Let one student suppose he is Wei Ming’s partner and try to give him some advice and say why.

2.Let two students make a model for the whole class.

3.Let the students practice their conversations.

4.The teacher can walk around the classroom, and give some help to the students.
