BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- China produced the most gold in the world in 2012, making it
the largest producer for the sixth straight year, latest industry association(协会) data(数据) showed.
China's gold output (产量)increased 11.66 percent from a year earlier to hit a record high of 403.05 tonnes (吨)in 2012, the China Gold Association said Wednesday.
The output was almost 100 times that of 1949, when the country produced just 4.07 tonnes, the association said.
It attributed (把…归功于)the increase to favorable government policies(政策), which have put the industry on a fast track and made it a pillar (支柱) industry in many of the country's gold producing areas.
The country's top 10 gold producers, including provinces of Shandong, Henan, Jiangxi, accounted for 82.71 percent of the total national output last year.
China surpassed South Africa to become the largest gold producer in 2007.
The country is currently the world's second-largest gold consumer( 消费国) after India, with total gold consumption at 761.05 tonnes in 2011, the association said in a report released in December.

When visiting Beijing, the Palace Museum is a must-see for many people.
Last year, the museum received 14.2 million visitors, which is twice the
number of visitors in 2002. This year it is expected to increase by 10 percent.
Compared with other popular museums around the world, the number of
visitors at the Palace Museum is very high. Last year the Louvre in Paris
welcomed 8.8 million visitors and the British Museum in London received 5.8 million.
A large number of visitors can bring a lot of money from ticket sales. But there are also worries that people will do damage(破坏) to relics(文物) and old buildings.
To solve the problem, some people suggested taking cultural objects out of the Palace Museum. However, Shan Jixiang, director of the Palace Museum, doesn’t agree on this idea. Shan said that they are planning to increase the space that is open to the public. This will not only feed visitors’ curiosity(好奇), but also spread them out so they are not putting too much pressure on one area.

Mrs. Thompson came to the 5th grade class and noticed that Teddy was always alone.
